Tuffy just sent me a picture of a Coast Tea Tree, found in the San Francisco area. Looks like this is not a root, just a part of that twisted tree! 😊
Took a look at some images of those trees. Now I know where the Big Box Lumber stores get their 2 x 4's 😆
Looks great
@@MarklTucsonLOL!
what an awesome piece Phil close to your best ever ❤
It’s a turtle, Phil. There is no need to apologise for being crazy - you are in good company. Love the finish 🌞
😊
The distance between crazy and genius is often short. You aren't crazy! It's amazing what you do with such challenging pieces of wood.
Thank you, Wayne! 😊
Wayne.. I'm an author and I have not seen a review this beautiful in a long time. Bravæ!
Another very beautiful and unique piece Phil…..well done once again! Stay safe.
@@dtork47 😊
It looks like it should be in a fairy garden. Gorgeous, it looks very touchable.
😊
Never apologise for creating such attractive pieces. I prefer to turn “natural” pieces rather than a “normal” bowl.
😊
Nerves of steel working on that beauty. Make sure you are wearing your safety squints! Thank you for keeping the sides natural. It's amazing I could look at that for the rest of my life and still be blowen away with its beauty.
Cool, thanks, Jareth! Mask and face shield on! 😊
Never "boring " on this channel! Always amazing ❤
😊
Too see the beauty nature gives us, appreciate it without trying to alter is a gift. You have that gift and it's a pleasure to watch.😊
So nice of you, Carol, thank you! 😊
Like your thought process that you're just taking a little bit of your time to bring out what took nature so many years to make. Thanks for bringing her wonders to us.
Thank you, Michael! 😊
Thank You Phil....WOW YOU actually figured out how to hold and turn that knarley dude!!!... Well Phil you must know now that you have upped my "Phil wood" searching/collecting game. The more twisted the better., ha!!! ... Over the years you have defined your style. I think, you have perfected your style of "wonderfulness" and you know exactly how to approach the un-approachable with very positive results. All of that knowledge comes from just doing & Phil YOU are doing pretty darn good. You have said in the past "I do not have an artistic bone in my body", ha. Time for you to sit back and look at what you have created with that non artistic bone of yours... You have made so much fun this afternoon and I always look forward to next Thursday....Beautiful bowl Phil ... TM PS- It could be "Tea Tree" wood from San Francisco and not a root ball but a limb. Tea Trees are just strange trees and all over the City planted in the 20's
Oh, interesting. Never heard of Tea Trees. It did have quite a bit of mud in a couple places. Maybe from sitting in a mud puddle or something. Sure seemed like a root to me, though. Anyway, thank you for the challenge, it was good fun, Tuffy! 😊
Thank you Tuffy! Keep the challenges for Phil coming.
@@valeriehenschel1590 You, me and so many others. Phil has the best from everyone & Phil gives his best back.... TM
Really cool as usual Phil .. thanks so much for the compliment it means a lot coming from you 😁👍
Thank you, Andy! Hope you are doing well! 😊
Thank goodness for Tuffy and his eye for an interesting piece to send to you.
Definitely! 😊
We coffee folks enjoyed this one, also! Hubby loves watching your videos because you explain thoroughly what you are doing at what speed, with what tool and what you finish with. Very interesting wood pieces, too! Thank You so much. Cheers & Blessings 👍
Thank you, Cheryl and hubby! 😊
One of the coolest of the root balls you have turned Phil. I would say it was Phil meets nature and we win. If it was a movie it would be called "Phil Meets Root Ball" I see the face but the first one I saw was where you pointed to an area and said you want to do something with it. Looks like one of those little bulldogs with its lower chin sticking out. Great turning my friend, Gary
Yeah, there ya go, Gary, a bulldog! I knew it looked like something, just couldn't put a name to it. Thanks, buddy! 😊
If I hadn't seen this comment, I'd have missed that! It does look like a bulldog! Good Spot Papa.
It’s a beaver!! Great result Phil, well done! ❤
Or a turtle, John! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop True! 😂
The little feature is an owl! - so good Phil! Blessings to you! Stay Warm!
😊
Good ol Tuffy is giggling again 🤣🤣. Deno
LOL! Probably! 😊
Hey you guys, please listen up. We are not doing enough for Phil. We all must share his master pieces for the world to enjoy, his ideas, skills, passion and experience. Please share his videos or send them any way you choose to get him to at least 100K subscribers. He is such a humble, skillful, energetic artist-wood turner and we all need to promote his work, any which way. Thanks a lot, and hope for 100K by Easter time. Love to all, love to Phil from Greece ❤❤❤
You're the best! 😊
Wow! Just wow! I just kept waiting for it to blowout on you. Glad you held it together. Thanks Phil. Dan
Me too, Dan! Thanks! 😊
You are the master for turning strange pieces into stunning beauties!
Thanks a lot, Carol! 😊
Wow, so much happening in this piece! It really is a beauty. The head you pointed out looks like it belongs to a turtle with a very elaborate shell. Thank you, Phil and Tuffy!
😊
I could see the turtle head also. Outstanding piece of work.
This piece is totally amazing Phil. When one can preserve what nature has created, that is what I call a true artist. AND that you are. Great job 👍.
Thank you, Scott! 😊
As Tina Turner sang, Phil, "You're Simply The Best". Long may you continue giving us such pleasure.
Great song, Cliff, thanks! 😊
This is why this is my favourite channel full stop more of this please uk
I do have another similar piece but, I'm saving it for awhile. Glad you like it, thank you, Evan! 😃
Love this one‼️ It's like sitting and looking at clouds when they change shape‼️ I see a turtle and a lion in this bowl‼️ (Almost sounds like an English pub, "The Turtle & The Lion"). 🐢🦁 Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪 ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Haha, you are right about that, Ann! 😊
Happy Thursday, Phil. What a test Tuffy passed along to you. You passed with flying colours. Thank you, as always.
😊
Nature at her best. Thank you for bringing it out of that piece of fog wood.
😊
I think Tuffy is sending you peace’s of wood that he doesn’t think you can make anything out of. But again you prove him wrong. What a beautiful peace of art. Thank you for sharing.
😊
Another amazing piece. I think root balls make gorgeous pieces. The finish is really beautiful. Great work Phil!
😊
What a visual treat, Phil - I could look at that for hours! I found myself holding my breath though. Now I can relax, hehe😀
So much fun, Michael! 😊
Is there anything you DON’T turn! You’re a steely-eyed man, Phil!
Haha, thanks, Danella! 😊
Wow you helped Mother Nature make an artistic masterpiece. 👍
😊
Yet another beauty, Phil! Thanks to Tuffy for sending it. So much to look at…so many curves and twists and nooks and crannies. And what a lovely finish it has! Love it!
😊
Ahh now then - this blank had your name all over it as soon as I saw it - I knew you would do it some justice. It's just beautiful from any angle - great to watch, makes me want to go turn one too but it's getting late here so maybe tomorrow! 😂Lovely to see you Phil, all the best - cheers!
Best of luck tomorrow! 😊
I had to watch this one again. Phil, it is just gorgeous. Always a pleasure.
Cool, thanks, George! 😊
I don't understand how a person couldn't like this. It is beautiful. You cannot beat nature. I couldn't agree with you more about epoxy. Takes from the natural shape.
I'm glad you like it, thank you! 😊
Beautiful piece. You always find a way to create fine art 🎨
Thank you! 😊
Wow, that narley piece turned out STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL! I just couldn't do that kind of turning. I would have probably used a glue block to the bottom.
Glad you like it, Jane, thanks! 😊
What a beautiful piece. You took God's love and turned into art!
😊
I see the profile of a turtle with his next extended. I do very much like it and, again, I’m glad you finished it. Barbara
😊
u have the abillity to see something beutiful in odd peices thanks for sharing
Thanks, Neil! 😊
They don't get much prettier than this Phil! You are sounding a lot healthier mate, stay safe and well my friend.
😊
It just "beggars" belief that you could make something so awesome with that pile of knotted wood. Good on you. Master at work I think. Cheers, Dave, Beachmere Queensland Australia
Thanks, Dave! 😊
I love it! You and Andy are my absolute favorite turners. You, for the gorgeous nature you enhance and Andy for the exquisite shapes he produces. His epoxy pieces are beautiful but I especially love the natural ones he does. Yours I love because you take the best of nature and make it better. I'd rather have an art piece than a boring functional soup bowl any day.
Oh, I'm so with you, Karen, thank you! 😊
You bring out the hidden beauty! Wood is wonderful on its on !
😊
Phip, it seems you routinely go where few of us dare visit with your turning. And come out with pieces that are truly art! Thanks again for the inspiration.
Many thanks! 😊
Fantastic work Phil. 95% of turners would have thrown it in the fire. Great result
😊
Definitely nature at it's best just polished up a bit by a master. Just as long as you stay out of the line of fire and don't use plastic all will be great, besides who wants to sweep up plastic shavings. Thanks to Tuffy again for trying to stump the pro. Stay safe and be well. Dennis
Thank you, Dennis! 😊
Kinda looks like a beaver head to me. What a beauty Phil. Thanks.
😊
OMG!! How can anybody not like this bowl! Its maybe my favorite item youve done in a very long time. ITS MAGNIFICENT!! I LOVE how you left so much of nature in the bowl, thats why I love your pieces, you let the wood tell you what it wants to be! Thanks, Phil!❤
I'm so glad you like it, Texana. Thank you so much! 😊
It's watching you do pieces like that Phil that inspired me to full time turning, I've been blessed to be able to sell now in a nation wide chain store. Thank you, thank you thank you.
Very cool, Michael! 😊
All sides are part of the whole. All contributing in their own special way. You're a risk taker. You see the potential and you strive for it while flirting with diaster. What an amazing enhancement of nature's work of art.
😊
I do like it. I didn't think I would but when you had it finished it look so much more beautiful.
It still amazes me what can come from these pieces, Dana! 😊
WOW!!! This is yet another miracle! It was absolutely impossible, and you did it anyway! As always.
😊
Your best carving....my gosh...it's gorgeous....... Can wait for the next video. Have a good weekend . Cheers.
Thank you so much! 😊
outstanding Phil. jeez ... i wanna grow up to be just like you. ;) i 'm 77, but still alive ... have always loved wood ... and am inspired to get me a lathe and make some art .
I started when I was 69 and bought this lathe. Now I'm 76 and it was the best investment in my health I could make! 😊
Stunning piece of art. It has an ancient look about it. ❤❤❤ thanks Phil
😊
There’s no bad side to that one! Fantastic!!
Thanks, Nathan! 😊
Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. I like it. ❤❤❤❤
😊
Wonderful Phil, I think the animal head looks like a Polar bear emerging from under the Ice.
😊
WHOW! You rounded out those lips beautifully!!!! That was an unexpected addition! That's a centerpiece!
😊
Quite the twisted tree, you did an amazing turn on this piece ... as you do every week😊 You are a pleasure Phil, thank you!
As are you, Joanna! Thanks for watching! 😊
You kill me. I *need* that piece. So freaking gorgeous. And thank you for not using resin. The day you do is the day we know that you've lost your mind! 🧡
Haha, thanks, Kat! 😊
Phil you are brilliant! But on the wild side. Only you could have seen such beauty in a narled pile of roots. I would certainly have it on the display.
😊
I am a quilter and my favorite kind to make is a scrappy one, using a mix of prints and colors, often donated from friends. I like this kind because, like you and your wood scraps, it allows me to plan and design as I go thereby making unique and special quilts. To some people those may not be their cup of tea, for me it’s fun to imagine what I can do with scraps that no one sees value in. That’s what you do with those grungy bits of wood that you turn into pieces of art. Long may you continue producing your works. I love seeing you find the beauty in your medium.😊
I understand exactly what you are describing with your quilts, Betsy! Those will stand out from all the rest! I love that! 😊
Phil, your chucking and turning skills are way beyond mine. As for natural beauty, for me this piece is beyond words.
I'm glad you like it, thank you! 😊
Wow! You’re a genius. The little branch you were pointing at is definitely a Capybara. It’s like a 1 meter ~3 feet large Guinea pig from South America.
Cool! 😊
Very unique and beautiful piece of art from wood 🪵 !! 😎👍
😊
Nature gives us beauty and you make it shine. Thank you
There ya go, perfect description, Debbie! 😊
Phil... I love your humor, your imagination and visionary style. I did not notice the coffee grounds at all. As far as the type of wood, I think 🤔 this is part of the root system from the Louisiana swamp trees. I watch "Swamp People" and this wood looks just like the trees they work around.
Interesting, thanks, Kat! 😊
A turtle’s head, maybe? Regardless of what it looks like to all of us, it’s beautiful, Phil. Really enjoyed this, buddy! 😎😎😎 Take care, …..Gord
Yeah, I'm not looking at it but I can remember it and a turtle head fits perfectly, Gord! Thanks, buddy! 😊
Beauty and the Beast piece. Started as firewood and look what you found inside.
😊
This is an amazing bowl and you are far from crazy. Just because someone else would do this differently does not mean you are crazy. That’s subjective. I enjoy doing things strictly with wood only and some epoxy creations, and everyone should be able to appreciate both.
Thank you! 😊
I’m with you Phil! Nature is always better than epoxy! It looked to me like a turtles head.
😊
WOW!! UNBELIEVABLE... love it and it's definitely my cup of tea ...
Cool! 😊
Stunning is a word that comes to mind.
😊
Hi Phil... Just amazing... new favourite...👍👍 Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
Thanks, Andy! 😊
This is one of the most outstanding pieces. I enjoyed you maintaining the national form.
😊
It’s wonderful Phil, your not crazy just intrepid , I would certainly give it shelf room , love root ball wood .
😊
Nothing but FABULOUS!!! Tuffy finds the neatest pieces of wood, he certainly knows a good thing!
He sure does, he's a treasure. Thanks, Colleen! 😊
The eye, shape of the "head," and the "leg" looking limb make me think of a swimming turtle. Cool piece!
Cool, thank you, Beth! 😊
Absolutely love this piece. My mum loves the colour and how you get the outside so smooth. Can't wait to see what you do next week. Cathy
Thank you Cathy and mum! 😊
Boy does Tuffy send you some wild stuff or what? That's beautifully done Phil!
😊
Phil just absolutely beautiful. It reminds me of a heart with the arteries and veins. Amazing all I can say.
Thanks, Kevin! 😊
A nice, weather beaten, old gem. Type of wood? I don't have the foggiest Phil. That face reminds me of Darth Vader. May the Force be with you, Phil. Thanks.
Turtle head seems to be popular, Kersi. Thanks for watching! 😊
Another piece of pure nature art from the master. Thoroughly enjoyed
Thank you, Norman! 😊
I think that is one of your most beautiful pieces
Cool, thank you, Rayleen! 😊
I see a water buffalo where your seal creature is. Beautiful. Greetings from Scotland! 🐃
Cool! 😊
My favourite pieces are the root balls...
Mine too, Celia! 😊
Thumbs up to Mother Nature. (Okay, Phil did great, too. 😊)
😊
Well Phil….you should take more credit!! Because you have to have the vision and trust to allow the wood to tell its story! 😊 I love these crazy pieces and I would love to see you turn that larger one you said you had! Also I saw a turtle in it….great job love this one!
Yup, that was a turtle head for sure, Mike! 😊
Phil, that piece is absolutely gorgeous!
I'm glad you like it, Wesley, thank you! 😊
You’re the master at turning obscure pieces, Phil. Excellent job. 👍 And I’m borrowing the term fog wood. Makes me laugh every time.
I forgot to ask… Do you go over the coats of sanding sealer and/or shellac with steel wool? You never mention it so just curious. I don’t like the junky kind of feel it leaves on my bowls, so I always knock it back a bit with steel wool. Your stuff finishes so nicely, curious if u do something similar. Thx.
😊
I don't like steel wool, John so I use 3M abrasive pads. 😊 I have a very short video on what I do between coats: kzhead.info/sun/n9Wno5unrJdqimw/bejne.html
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop thanks for sharing. I’ll give that a try. Love that it sticks to the sanding wheel too.
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil another truly amazing creation, I love it. The part you said reminded you of a sea creature, reminded me of a turtle, then some parts looked like a volcano spewing out molten lava. And the way you marked out for the recess was a great example of why you don't use the radius as I asked a few weeks ago. Cheers Phil thanks for the weekly tonic.
Haha, I was thinking of you, John, when I marked the recess! 😊
Yes Phil it's definitely scary to do Roots and when I won a bet to finish my first one. It was priceless to see the on my buddies face because I had finished it. Beautiful work and happy turning my friend 😊
😊
Anything you do Phil is magnificent!!
😊
I know I'm a couple of days late, but the animal looks like a snapping turtle. Beautiful bowl, by the way, just like much of what you do.
😊
Great piece, Phil! I love that you leave as much of the natural wood as possible on your projects. I immediately thought of a Snapping Turtle head when you showed it. Great job!
Cool, t hanks, Scott! 😊
Looks like buckthorn root gorgeous job ❤
😊
I think it's outstanding. I was a little worried at first, but it held together and came out beautiful. natures beauty is awesome..
😊
