People back in the day were fit; cause no TV, internet, or video games. If you wanted to have fun, you had to MOVE, and since there was no internet, the only people you knew of that looked better than you were people you knew IRL and so it wasn't as embarrassing to go out in public.
Well, it's true that Kitty-Jo from Chattanooga Cats only had to dance loop one minute and fourty-five seconds at a time, but that's hippie chicks for you!

@@itsmrbigsmoke862 this is what i'm reminded of each time i go to the local night club at my city with colleagues. on another note, i put some electro-swing playlist at work recently and i could notice some clients who would either tap their feet or swing their shoulders a little, that's where i felt not all hope is lost lol. Also, technically house music incorporates some elements of jazz and you def have a different vibe in night clubs hosting house music mix.

there are some stations in california that play jazz, swing, and new age electro-swing of this caliber. I was so ecstatic the first time I heard some peggy suave one night on the local stations a couple years ago.

IIRC it was after they visited Victor and his home and when Freckles and her had the tuna sandwhich from the sink. Rocky asks her to scout out the place and she goes into the car and all like "Hum" and angry, and 2 panels later she waved her tail and goes like "Ok :D"

The word is a lot older, and some uses in British English were very derogatory. There is a chain of Pre-WW1 usage which was quoted in US newspapers, young women who performed as energetic dancers on stage. The British women workers in WW1 also attracted the label, a shift in fashion and the political changes being involved. I can see a reaction to some of the old meanings, with the implied prostitution, but that detail of the British usage may not have been in the initial pre-WW1 quotes seen in the USA.

I just got a serious workout trying to imitate her dance! 😂🥵 There's so much more to it than I realized! The way she swings her legs, twists her shoulders, moves the arms, AND AT THIS BPM!? ...It was a wonderful exercise, thank you.

I love that no one has commented on the actual dance she is doing, if y’all wanna know it’s called “mashed potato” or at least that’s what pops tell me. I took me a week just for the footwork, I then decided that I didn’t want to do the upper body portion so I put a 2023 spin on it for the upper half. AND GOD DAMN DOES IT HURT THE FEET AFTER A BIT. Edit: It’s the charleston not mashed potato, my pops gave me the name he used for it.

Not only is this loop smooth as silk - Not only is every element of this art in constant motion - Not only is this dance step kicking hard to that beat - Not only is this cat girl clearly living her best life in the moment... On top of all of that, every single frame of this animation is a work of art. Pause at any moment and you'll see some new detail. This is high art.

@@JupiMeow I think drawn on twos means that it's drawn every two frames. Like, frame 1 has a drawing, frame 2 is just a copy of frame 1, frame 3 has the continuation drawing of the motion, frame 4 is just a copy of frame 3, and so on

A reminder: A lot of our great-grandparents were hip, swinging cats.
My great-grandfather was a roving mystery man we don't know anything about, except that he liked his women. Was in Europe, got a Scottish woman pregnant with my grandfather. Also got an Italian woman pregnant. Fought in WW2, got a Japanese woman pregnant after the war ended. And that's all the ones *we know about.* If somebody told me that mother-fucker was a fairy, I'd half believe them.

He was in the military as an unarmed instructor, but the best story about his time in the service is that he would play ping-pong and people would bet on him, and every time he won, he would take a cut of the cash and send his army check home to his wife.

I remember him telling me that he didn't like chickens because the chickens on his farm used to always peck him (he still had the scars on his arms if i recall correctly) unfortunately that's all i really know about him; he died before i could really get to know him well, my mom says that he and i are the kindest people she's ever known

If you read the comics she's not an outcast tomboy. She's very into fashion, spends a good deal of money on the latest trends and magazines and likes dancing and is quite popular in school.
Yeah I’m caught up on the Webtoon but the rest of my statement still stands.
And what I like about Lackadaisy is, unlike a lot of 'Funny Animal' comics, it's not hyper-sexualized. I mean, Ivy is gorgeous, and other than her narrow waist and girlie girl smile, nothing gives away she's a girl. No Uber boobs, nothing. Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to the next installment!
Also I think Tracy (the comic creator) mentions that in the 1920s it was more in style to look boyish with slimmer waists and such.
I can confirm that was the style. Especially for flappers. They wanted to get away from the styles before the great war.
I think the best way I can describe it for me is the charm of Lackadaisy comes from the fact that the art fits into a cohesive imaginary world. Meanwhile a lot of furry art is pretty clearly just the artist indulging their pathos. There's a big difference between art with context and without.
I have seen too many tf2 videos and now when i read uber boobs i just think "boobs being ubercharged" The baby gonna have a field day

Ivy was always my favourite cat. I loved her friendship with Viktor. I even named my RL cat 'Ivy' after her.

I discovered this video like a week ago, and it has been my main source of background music since, I don't even watch the animation anymore. I could find the songs on their own, or listen to a playlist, but no, I just watch this vid like 40 times. On an unrelated note, I didn't know that Lackadaisy existed before this was recommended to me, and within 20 minutes I had already gotten excited for the film.

I always knew I loved this type of music but never knew the name Electroswing until now. Finally I can search for it properly and expand my collection considerably. And on top of it all there's an amazing loop of a kitty just having the time of her life to go with it. This day couldn't have gone any better

My Dad was born in the same year prohibition started in 1920 and he used to tell me stories about prohibition that he heard from his Mother and Father in Dallas. Of course, I got confirmation from my Grandmother about some of the shenanigans done in some of the Jazz clubs in Deep Ellum just east of downtown Dallas. Later years, I went to Deep Ellum and Lower Greenville to sample the Jazz/Blues clubs and remembering the stories, I kind of understood how things were then. So, yeah, I learned to kick it and my soul belongs to Jazz/Blues ever since.

I useda read Lackadaisy when it was new, followed it for years, then I just sorta gradually forgot about it as I drifted onto other things I guess. Seeing this pop up in my feed was an absolute nostalgia bomb, wrapped in the promise of something amazing to look forward to. This is making my day.

I'm not really a big fan of web comics, just have had some not so great experiences with them so I'm just going to watch the series as it comes out. after watching ivy dance on repeat, I noticed that her foot work along with her dance animation was in tune with the rhythm of the first song whilst mostly in tune with the second, in other words: she is (almost) dancing exactly on each beat of each song. which is insanely impressive, especially since she was dancing for a straight 12 minutes!

I'm impressed with how Ivy seems to always be dancing in perfect time with the music the whole time! Despite the animation being in a loop, it never appears to come out of sync. How??? Fantastic work!
My only guess is that swing is a timed dance with timed music. (Think box step 1 2 3 4) it’s just faster paced. This means that in theory a perfect dancer who is just doing one section of the dance, in this case the bit where you step away from your partner would look like a perfect loop.

I will be honest here - I am NOT a cat person at all. BUT .. I really just love Lackadaisy! I think part of it is the art style and part of it is the historical aspect.
Yeah the art style and iconic characters are great, and the setting of during the USA's prohibition is really neat
