Even though Sony agreed to let Spider-Man swing over to the MCU, they still wanted to capitalize on their property- which led to a movie focusing on Venom, the classic Spidey villain. The 2018 movie starring Tom Hardy was a surprise hit, which naturally led to a sequel. So here we are… Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage definitely raises some questions. Like what’s up with Woody’s wig? Why is Cletus obsessed with Eddie Brock without knowing that he’s Venom? Why are we watching them bicker about doing cool stuff instead of seeing them do the cool stuff? Since when does getting shot give you a contact lens? Did Carnage just hack the Internet?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Venom: Let There Be Carnage! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

@@andyscott5277 Firstly, Sylvie aint a villain. That's 7 good villains (i would argue Hela and Ultron werent that good but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt). @@simos6jipros154 If Loki’s a "villain" then so is Sylvie. Though their character arcs are complex, Sylvie has done villainess deeds, and was set up as a villain for the Loki show. I’ll concede that it’s not a great ratio, but my main contention was with the declaration "Literally every super villain now." If I recall right, finding the bodies put public interest back on Cletus, and sped up his execution. No idea how realistic that is, but they really wanted that guy dead now that they found the bodies.
Except he really shouldn't care about the abuse thing. His characterization in this film is so off. And its becoming more and more obvious the more I look back on it. Though it's probably just what the person above me said, about the bodies being found speeding up his execution.

They..... they took away one of Carnage's key things that sets him apart from Venom? Which is permanently bonded to Cletus and in his blood, forever? WTF!?
And they made it seem like Venom + Eddie was a good pairing, while Cletus + Carnage was a bad pairing, but in the comics it's completely different. Eddie and Venom argue all the time and don't have a very strong connection, but Cletus + Carnage are almost entirely in sync (which makes them boring, but also is supposed to make Carnage super strong).
@@miltain This movie isn't based off of any one specific story. It borrows from a lot of elements. Venom 1 is closer to the Lethal Protector issues than *any* of the 80s and 90s material, completely ditching any of the Venom v Spiderman and Symbiote War storylines (which they are probably saving for later). While they did use a form of the Cassidy origin story from his initial release, the character motives and direction feel nothing like the recurring Carnage character. Even his relationship with Shriek is only loosely adapted, as Shriek's entire origin story is different in the movie, as is the way they ended it.
@@miltain Yeah, I fully agree. Neither character is accurately depicted, and the movie suffers for it. I'm not going to say that I was the biggest fan of Maximum Carnage (Carnage has always seemed a little too one-dimensional for me), but the storyline there had far more to offer. If they were leaning in that direction, they could have worked both Venom 1 and 2 to move in that direction. From the looks of it, they had a starting point of Venom 1 where Eddie and Venom were both losers, and neither was particularly malicious. Then they had an end point they wanted to get to - Venom being in the MCU. They mashed together whatever they could in 90 minutes to bridge those two end points.
"Shriek wants revenge on the guy that made her wear the contact lenses" "Cletus wants revenge on Eddie for publishing an article after he specifically ask him to publish an article" "And Carnage, he wants revenge of Venom for (thinking) I don't know being his dad..." "What are you talking about?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 don't know why that was so funny
Because the reasons why they want such strong revenge are kind of mediocre, which twists it 😁
And because it basically boils Carnage down to a whiny teenager. I mean you could argue that Shriek and Cletus are deranged enough that they'd hunt you down and brutally murder you for buying the last happy meal so they don't need much motivation for anything. Carnage just hates daddy for existing like an agnst ridden kid...it's not a phase dad...
I found myself replaying that bit multiple times 😂 it’s just so funny because of Ryan’s delivery but also puts in perspective of their motivations. It’s just so silly and dumbfounding, I feel like I said “what are you talking about?” too many times during this movie
No, he said he wanted to be unstoppable. And wanting revenge on the guy who took your eye seems reasonable enough. Cassidy I'll admit could have been a bit clearer.
