The irony of watching this after scrolling for hours on KZhead
Lets take it as a wake up call
KZhead is a bit different. I have recently stopped using Instagram and I haven't been using Facebook and Twitter for months. And I feel great. But I still use KZhead and it's better if you watch better videos solely for the entertainment and educational purposes. On Instagram it is like same meme over and over again. Same shit, people either showing off or advertising shit.
You’re lying to yourself bro
Ajay Choudhary i agree, understanding that social media and technology can be used in many different ways is important. Even browsing pointless memes is not a bad thing, you just have to make it a point to yourself that this is entertainment and I’m not going to sit here doing this for a while.

It’s like what Jim Carrey says that depression is good. It’s your body needing deep rest from who you were trying to be... the character you are playing.
@MegaSkilla Just because he made mistakes doesn't mean his messages don't hold true. Shane Dawson did fucked up things that I cannot stand by and condem him for, but he has given us many good messages over the years: loving yourself enough to get help, you are loved by somebody in the world, etc.
? Depression is good? WTF have you been smoking

@@jonsnow1278 lmao
Yeah but it's not necessarily a good thing if it's a symptom of an issue. Sounds more like something you tell yourself as a tactic to feel better, which is fine if that works for people.

I just went through a mental break down. I went into a state of psychosis and when I came out I went to therapy. When I explained how I felt she replied," it sounds like you are going through a metamorphosis." She could not be more right. Its not easy to feel negative thoughts and emotions but I feel as if by the end of this road I will be stronger and more focused.
Exactly right! I had a mental breakdown in my early 20's. Looking back I was putting up a mask and it got too hard to put up. In reality the "breakdown" actually broke me out of the matrix of society. So grateful.
I just turned 21 and experienced this as well. I was trying so hard to be liked by everyone. Things happened in my personal relationships, I broke mentally, shaved my head, quit my job (that I was advancing quickly in unfortunately), destroyed my life. Now I'm beginning to rebuild it after 6 months of just overthinking daily. I feel like I am just beginning to grasp REALITY, but I know that I still know absolutely nothing. That's the great things about life I think! You just keep learning
thanks for sharing
How do you stop holding up the mask without having a breakdown?
@@erazemmartinjak7965 Most likely holding up a mask for too long will cause a breakdown. Being true to yourself at all times while still being relatable to others can help. Gotta find a balance and environment that resonates best with you.

Duncan is so humble and knowledgeable he's truly an artist.
The problem I’m having is, I don’t know what else I want to pursue in life. This numbing feeling I get from the internet is enjoyable, but I understand myself I’m spending too much time on it. Progressing in studies and hobbies seem plausible, but the lack of enthusiasm drives me straight back to social media.
sounds like you’re looking for ends, my friend. a big shift a friend taught me is to forget the ends, every single thing can be a means to the end. you never have to find the end. the means are where we find fulfillment.
@@samhammond7575 yea. there's a reason ppl say " enjoy the journey, not the destination". i guess you don't really try to go outside of your comfort zone and try some shit for a hour, day, week etc. and it turns into " idk what to do, have nothing to pursue, because i don't know what I want". that's actually very common if you didn't get hooked on something in childhood, either try to join some activity groups or as i said try to break the turtle shell where you feel secure and can be lazy, because nothing drives you forward. can't expect some magical people to appear and fix your life. time flows either we want it or not. duncans analogy of broken bone is perfect, have to break the bad habits and start something. i never liked animals, except canaries while growing up, because i rarely met them and interacted with them. now im 29 and I'm helping my grandparents in the farm with horses, cows, cats/dogs, chickens etc. because i enjoy it and even have plans with gf to move there. and for the last 6y im working in friends company, atm manager of whole country south sector stores, yet I hardly feel like im sitting in my home and looking at the wall till it moves away and gives me answers.
Look at what you enjoyed as a child man all the way up till when you had to take on more responsibilities I find the truth lies somewhere in there for most people
Try something really challenging, something that'll get that adrenaline going. I guarantee you'll forget all about your social media fix.
I think this sums up how majority of ppl feel and social media companies profit from it

People avoid themselves, and nothing gets resolved. Some people have literally hated being quarantined because they are scared to meet themselves. So yeah, it takes a mental breakdown when a person refuses to do the work any other way.
R. Lucas ugh no we don't like being forced into agoraphobia by a government claiming that bit cares when the government-coperate Janis tells you something it's a lie 100% of the time.
lee Roberts completely missing the point or maybe not wanting to confront how it applies to you.
100% true- most people are afraid to be alone. It is such an unhealthy stance. One of the things that helped to cure my anxiety was literately sitting with myself without any distractions, usually outside. It's amazing how powerful this is.

Any mental breakdown which can be depression and/or anxiety is a check engine light your brain turns on and needs fixing. Forget medication because it doesn't work or is supposed to be a temporary fix/help until you get ahold of yourself and make that change needed to get back to normal. You have to reprogram your brain to start enjoying life again and stop fearing your temporary malfunction. I healed from anxiety. Which was because of a long time of stress that brought me the worst anxiety disorder/insomnia/depression you can imagine. Once I said I'm not gonna fear this fearful/anxiety sickness and start living. Then I started to heal. It takes time for your brain to heal and get back to normal. That's where people lose patience and don't get out of it, thinking it'll never go away. Everybody is different. So no telling when you'll fully heal but eventually you will. I'm about 1yr and 3 months from when I changed my way of thinking and started healing. I'm at 90% back to normal. Remember. The only thing to fear is fear itself.
I'm crying thank u you so much
@@_oreomilkshakes2618 just change your way of thinking. By doing that change. You'll get better little by little. You'll be rewiring your brain. You'll notice as ever day goes by. You'll feel a little bit better. Just the way you can get sick. You can also heal. Been there done that. You gotta get to a point in your life where you tell yourself "enough is enough. I'm done suffering. I gave you your time. Now I'm done with you". Let's do this. Let's say Fu*k it. I'm gonna live my life. And be happy like I should be. Let's do this.
As the son of a schizophrenic mother, I’d say that dismissing medication is literally a life and death matter. Many people who might not need it overuse it, sure, but many people who need it aren’t taking it. Your story sounds inspiring and needs telling, but just like trying to cure cancer through diet, some mental issues can not be controlled through being more mentally strong as you’re implying.
@@hanaf1231 I was taking about depression and anxiety when it comes to mental breakdown. Schizophrenia is something I don't know about. I believe that is permanent and do require some type of medication. Dont know. But as for depression and anxiety. You can heal from that. So many people have. Medication is not the answer for what I'm talking about.
All this is good advice, but I still can’t fix the fact that I’m shy when it comes to peeing. I just can’t be around anyone, I always have to go in the stall and sometimes that doesn’t help. I guess I can’t join the Marines😔
The most profound ego death I've ever experienced was from burning out. Substance-induced ego death is incredible, but the stress-induced one had me grace death - and the euphoria afterward from the brief relief I had was something else. Now I am a far better man, albeit still in recovery because I have to rebuild myself more or less from scratch. Never be someone you aren't.
So cool! Keep it up. Thanks for sharing

Did youtube just sense that I was having an anxiety attack?
Perhaps it did. It is thought that when AI becomes self-aware, it will be an enlightened Buddha of Binary, seeking good and peace. Also if you have a smart watch, it can detect your heart rate, and then maybe KZhead, filtering by your likes, went "here's a video that might come in handy"
We all iz
I was thinking the same thing!!
I think KZhead can sense what an individual is feeling
Maybe they are manipulating people into anxiety attacks?
It's okay to breakdown and unpack, just do not start living there. Take a break, reassess, and move forward from it.
Just maybe you did not understand the message here. Don't move forwaed from it, but faced the thing and vinc the thing.

Thats why once a month I do a detox day, full boredom day with WiFi disconnected, trying to move 2 times a month and later 4 and so on till I get 1 day of social media a week
Haykke I quit Facebook and Instagram (now my only addiction is KZhead- working on that!). It's so true what Rogan says about the bandwidth in your brain- I would be doing work and continuously thinking about what I was missing out on on Facebook or Instagram, wanting to check in all the time. It annoyed me so much that one day I thought, I don't need this, I have so much on my plate that I want to concentrate on and accomplish. I closed them and have not looked back! Going on a social media 'diet' feels great!
I agree, being on my phone too much feels like eating junk food, but for your brain. I’m learning my limits. And as a 15 year old noticing how many people can’t get off there phone is crazy. It’s like people are afraid to experience their own reality, and become addicted to distracting their selves with someone else’s.
Same here
I'm going through exactly this right now so thank you for such an enjoyable video. Relatable and funny!
The bandwidth comment is so true, when I spend time working on projects in my shop the phone is in the house. Last Saturday my wife asked me multiple times if I had seen her post about something, my answers were all the same, "I haven't touched my phone today." People need to turn that shit off and LIVE LIFE!

Sean Haggard Oof damn son
I have a panic disorder which, sometimes when triggered, one episode can last years. This isn't just a day of freaking out. My body will get so out of whack that it just turns on the physical terror for months and months at a time. No matter how I logically think or feel about it, It just happens. The doctors always wanted to throw SSRIs and Benzos and other such things at the problem. But no matter how bad I've felt, I've always refused, choosing to take what my body is doing and face to face with it head on. It's in doing this that I have learned the most about myself. A few times it's been so bad and I've been so frightened that I've lost total sense of who I was or who people I've known all my life were. But you know what? I know better than some random drug. I know in happiness or in despair that it's my soul speaking to me. In these extremely hard years I had no CHOICE but to connect directly to myself and identify and resolve underlying problems deep in the roots of my being. Maybe it took years, or even for me decades to do, to unwind those hard issues, but in the end I am so much happier and able as a person. Everyone wants to run away from the anxiety and bad feelings, but covering them up isn't the solution. It's just living a half life between meaningless surface level thoughts, and ignoring the person underneath. Anxiety is a tool you can use to strip away the bullshit and grow as a person. If you have the courage to get through total collapse, face the worst parts of yourself, and see out the other side, it puts the power in YOUR HANDS to be happy in your life. Not the world around you. Not if only this, or if only that. The situation you are in now. You don't get to choose what happens to you, but YOU get to choose how you want to frame it. Getting through depressions, addictions, and mental disorders has shaped me into the person I am today. If I had just dropped pills and thought nothing of it, I'd be like all of my other friends who are still stuck in the same loop of avoidance and haven't moved forwards. You really need to sort out what your true thoughts are. The reason it never works for most people is they have no idea what "real thoughts" are and what surface level bullshit buzzing around your brain is. There is a difference. Just because you feel bad or are CONVINCED that "something" is the reason for why you feel bad in the moment, doesn't make it true. It takes a LONG time to really sit down and sort out what is truly important, and a lot of that process is not easy.
I finally got off meds after a decade and it started with getting away from my parents
I was going to point you towards Mingyur Rinpoche and his great meditation teachings which he used to overcome his panic attacks, but it sounds like you found a similar way on your own :)

I had a breakdown associated with depression and generalized anxiety disorder in 2013. I was a complete mess for a couple of years and didn't get off my medications until 2019. The stigma is real. I made a few mistakes at work and unfortunately burned my bridge with my previous employer. However, it set me off on a new career which I absolutely love.

I think I get the very last part. When you are on fire, don't keep running around thinking that will put the fire out. Just get in the water and let go! Let go of the anxiety of the thing happening to you and just breathe.
In the podcast the non-joe/duncan guy offers a clearer analogy: you’re stumbling in the dark being chased by a monster, bumping into things and tripping over yourself. However if you stop and turn around to face the monster you’ll see it was never actually there.

I used to be horrible inside.. I used to have no control over myself and it's still an embarrassment to me. I used to do stuff I didn't know I didn't want to do at the time because I was "numb". We live so much of our lives through the subconscious mind just "going with the flow" until that false sense of self (ego) CRASHES. That's when we become spiritually awakened. That's when we can identify the true self and let it manifest in our body and we can become intentional with our actions.
Spend less time consuming and more time creating
Mckenna thought that was his most important point. Very interesting
It isn't about creating, it's about being. Be present and if create while present then great, but it's about being present and stop deceiving yourself.
Jaxx imagine if you had a real weapon
Cody95XD you just used words to express a thought you had. You created something, albeit small. Creativity manifests in so many ways, even small and mundane acts. What do you think?
Or spend less time creeping and more time creating.

Your art work has came so far my friend, I love all of the colors and smaller details.
I had a nervous breakdown in my early 30s. I ended up referring to it as my nervous breakthrough. But tbh I think these guys are mimimizing and simplifying the process and experience of serious mental illness. Sadly, it doesn't always end well or lead to a more balanced and enlightened state.
Are you doing better?
@@SothensKomplieze yes...that was long ago
To someone who has benefited from the experience, this certainly could seem like a minimization, but to someone who has never considered these concepts, minimization and focus on the positive is required to get the wheels turning. A full set of psychological lectures does not appeal to someone who has never considered that their core is flawed and/or that it can be repaired. Even arguing for or against (or both) your argument would be rather cumbersome without a lot of minimization. And I only argue because I too see minimization as a tool too often used to support toxic viewpoints, but to ignore the utility of a tool… I’m basically accusing you of minimizing minimization lol
Had one too, its hard to explain, maybe impossible to anyone who has not been there, For me it has been the Best three years I never wanna do again.... its all good You just need to let Go
It does for the rest there’s much needed medication/ nutrients
Brilliant conversation❤️
The last analogy could be: "It's like someone who is on fire running away from the water because they're afraid they might drown".
you thief
@@laurenzweickert7804 ahah I actually came up with it on my own. But I did just look through the comments and found one posted 2 days before mine that said basically the same thing. Oh well 🤷♂️
@@SODMGGOKU nothing is truly original my friend. i read this piece of wisdom for the first time here, and that's what really matters
@@SODMGGOKU I can see why you would think that. But what do you think is more likely: I read a comment posted 2 days before mine and thought "I'll just steal this and no one will notice" or I thought about it and commented it.
@Joe Villa I honestly don't know if you're trolling
Holy shit they need to stop dropping so much truth. I love Duncan Trussell, he’s a lovely human being.
Shut up
This is such a confusing comment... Why should they stop dropping truths, especially if you are enjoying it? Most people would say "everyone should hear this" or "we need more people talking about this" and you're saying they should stop 😳😂
Wait do u need a mental breakdown to get rid of anxiety
@Joe Villa What's wrong with being gay?
yeah, he truly is
Thank you!!!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I showed after skool to a teacher of mine and now we watch your videos before every class and the kids seem to engage and it’s really nice:)
"You're numb to your real life because you're taking in data from everywhere"
Its true
I recognized Duncan's voice right away because I absolutely LOVE Midnight Gospel!
I really feel like this, almost bananas just....keeping it together. This video nearly had me crying.
I remember this episode. Classic
Everyone should experience ego death once.
Yeah but not enough people have. Mine came during an LSD trip
Tom Altenberger Experience mine on shrooms
Freshly harvested Albino Penis Envys
That's the thing that wont happen. At least some of us that do experience it may learn it onto others and so on. Atm its just sheep mentality
Mine was on shrooms. I turned into an ape and ran on all fours while my friend tried to catch me i his jeep. Before that though, i FREAKED out, afterwards i went catatonic for a day. Very rewarding experience, I realized im just a modern day caveman and im ok with this. I have no desire to do shrooms ever again.
I love when Duncan goes on Joe’s show, their conversations are always hilarious and also interesting and insightful
Thank you for this video 💚
That was an absolutely incredible animation. Your talent is through the roof. The subject matter was also awesome. Thank you so much for your beautiful work!
This channel is a gamechanger! Combining wise knowledge with art and therefore making it very accessible for younger agegroups is genius!
Why does this make so much sense yet I would’ve never thought of this on my own
This video snapped me in HALF. Thank you for making this, i needed to see this.
I needed that. Thanks!
“My name is Clancy, do you want to be on my spacecast?” I love Duncan Trussell. Great visual animation for their chat. I loved this.
I was watching this video and got distracted a few minutes in by opening up Facebook on another tab and I didn't even realized what I'd done until after a minute or two. Clearly this was the video I needed today. (also that Screen Time thing hit home immediately)
Tool!!!
Remember. Facebook got addiction behavior design down to a scientific level. They own your subconscious at this moment.
The animations are amazing...im really impressed
