First of all I just want to thank everyone that helped make this possible. For if it wasnt for all the amazing help and people taking the time to make this happen, this would of never been a reality. So thank you.

  • Beautiful video! Thanks! In the summer of 2022 I made a bunch of flights from the Harriet Alexander Airport in Salida (elev. 7523') at the south end of the valley. The air is so thin in the summer. On one flight the air density was over 11,000'. It took full power in Sport Mode on my SP140 with my single skin 26M Independence Grasshopper to get off of the ground. Oh yes, all of my flights were before 10AM because of the unpredictable wind conditions after 10AM. The Arkansas River Valley is so beautiful, but you have to be very aware of and familiar with your environment in order to safely fly there. My flights were SO worth it!! Bill

  • Ah man the turbulence looks rough.. non PPG pilots don't understand how much the Gopros stabilize the footage so if it looks rough in the video then in reality you were bouncing everywhere. We have bought Sabotheat elec gloves for winter flying and if you get a size slightly too large then it adds a bit of dexterity to the finger tips for toggle control. It helps to wear them a lot in normal life to stretch out and add flexibility to the material. Ive also added Hot Hands to the palms of my gloves and arches of my feet if it gets really cold. Anyway great video 👍

  • 5:25 "Climbout was smooth" gets thrashed left and right. 🤣 Nice job on this! Congrats! Let's keep pushing for improved battery density! You definitely are getting thrashed around on your way up. Always nerve-wracking! Battery-powered gloves are totally worth it, even when the air is above freezing!

  • I climbed several times back in times over 12,000 MSL and once I went up to 14,300 MSL. All done from altitude of 430 ish. My experience is I would never try again without electric heated gloves. You should try them :-) Otherwise congratulations to your achievement.

  • hold on... you climbed 15k feet? 😮 or the altitude there is already high and then you flew up to 15k over sea level?

  • Not trying to be a downer, but they launched from an asl altitude of 10,000 feet so not that impressive, if you did it from sea level id be impressed. Hopefully someday they will come that far. Still really cool tho, keep up the innovation

    @AirChairAviation@AirChairAviation3 ай бұрын
    • Yes, however absolute altitude was our objective. I live at 7000ft msl, our objective was to simply see how it would perform in harsh temps and at high altitude. The X15 theoretically could of been designed to take off from the ground, but instead they dropped it from a wing of a B52 at 40k feet. Similar mentality with this attempt, we knew the battery duration would be very short, so starting at sea level, would of never got any real altitude results. I wanted to see if any power loss through prop efficiency was lost at 15k or greater. With a bigger wing, we are estimating 21K + in the right conditions. Which then, would be an impressive altitude gap. Once again this was just a test.

  • I own a Tesla and fly rc planes, but what happens if you do in the worst case, have a fire that high up? You WILL perish in the worst possible way…. Either you burn before you fall to death or you burn then fall. Or you wing burns and you drop to deaths.

    @adamfacey5555@adamfacey55552 ай бұрын
    • I was concerned about this too! But… a full spiral should keep the flames behind you in theory ( in my head )
