It is seriously impressive to see that you replaced this back glass in this horribly designed phone. Just like you say, the back panel seems to be the hardest part to remove. I am happy to see that Apple did a better job with the successor. This iPhone 11 design is just really bad.
they surely will downgrade eventualy dont worry
Theres a laser for that
its not really that impressive because as he said in the video its a replacement housing aka its a 3rd party and the glue is much weaker making it easier to remove
As someone who repairs phones and has done this, it's entirely true. It sucks. You have to remove every single little metal clip, screw, whatever, and you end up with a huge parts tray that you better not mix ip. And buying an expensive laser machine is not the solution. Often, the glues to glue the glass to the aluminum aren't strong enough and it ends up separating. The real solution is for Apple to stop doing this (they did it in the base model 14 but now the glass is serialised) but of course, it means more expensive repairs and higher chance that customers will just buy a newer iPhone, so it makes business sense to be evil.
iPhone 11 is most successful iPhone yet😉
Good to know that aftermarket back housings are easier to remove and replace than the factory ones. The factory one is a really bad design choice - you shouldn't need lasers to remove a piece of glass when Samsungs have their glass removable via a heat plate and careful removal of the glass.
Now look up how to replace a Samsung screen.
@@MarksterCIts very easy, i changed the s20 plus screen without the frame. The screen didnt even work so no point of saving... I just destroyed it off Iphone back glass is removable but takes arround 2 hours with a pry tool
@@MarksterCeasy to repair and they don't have thousands of different screws. A guitar pick, heatgun and a philips screw driver is all you need.
@@MarksterC keep hating
@@RandomGuy-om1vy I would take screws over glue any day.
When a phone comes back to you for a second repair, it's time to suggest a case to the owner. Glass slabs can feel pretty nice, but they're slippery as snot and quite fragile. Cases cost far less than parts.
phones are already too big, naked is the way
@@EffMTee That's where a ring grip or pop socket comes in handy. When I got my S23 Ultra, I found it's too big to use one-handed, so I got a pop socket. Makes it much easier to hold and use.
@@EffMTeecouldn't agree less
Its the buyers fault for buying this shit phone
The phone had a case
Every time Hugh uploads an iPhone repair, I think to myself, "what unnecessarily difficult thing are we encountering today?"
Great job Hugh! I managed to refurb a Galaxy S8 that I payed 7$ for it. Using as my daily driver.
how'd you manage to find that? I have an S10+, note 9 and iPhone 8 plus and people still want 200$ for an S8/s9 here
@@cideogameguy515 sometimes you can find some crazy deals for "broken" phones second hand. Just be careful with iCloud locks.
@@cideogameguy515 I found on my local online marketplace
@@cideogameguy515 yeah that's crazy, people still wants stupid money on such old phones
@@cideogameguy515 I guess he got a phone which was labeled for parts usage.
You and I have wildly differing definitions of "Coming free with ease"!!!! I still have hot dreams about my S5 neo where the back popped off and I swapped in my replacement battery when on road trips.
Love your content as always! Wish I could meet you at some point in time
Great job, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Another great repair by Hugh Jeffreys.
Always a good time watching the professionalism if this young man. I wish there were places here in the USA that had his level of work and care. I doubt that anyone here in the states bothers putting the seal around the screen back on. I treat my phones, new or used with kid gloves, because I don’t know if they have been compromised in the past in any way. Blows my mind to think that people take these things in to water. Any water, tub, shower, ocean……toilet. They are electronics and that and what’re do not go together.
I'm sure a lot of shops in America do considering the seal comes with the screen usually
Thank you for this video Mr. Jeffreys. On a side note... I always questioned the wisdom of using glass for the back panel of a phone. I loved my Pixel 4a and its polymer back panel. Greetings from the UK, Anthony
Tbh I'm more of a fan of aluminium back panels, they are rigid and normally don't get scratched. But then again, I have a case on
@@smd9591 Unfortunately can't have wireless charging with metal back panels. I prefer to use wireless charging to keep the wear of my usb ports down.
@@R_Forde I have used the. Lighting port on my iphone for charging for almost 5 years and there is no wear on the port at all, and I still use the original cable
Hell I miss my old Samsung i5500 (circa 2010) with a plastic back, plastic screen, and removable battery. That thing has been dropped down stairs, thrown, and stepped on countless times and still works fine. If it could still connect to the network and could be updated, I'd use it. I don't need a phone that's a fragile glass status symbol.
Great video, thank you for posting
Your channel ist just pure satisfaction...
I used crayons to fill the tiny gaps between the glass panel and the housing, it feels much nicer and smoother after that. From a color set you can just pick the crayon which fits best to the color of the housing/glass.
Awesome Hugh , you really make these repairs so easy, live this video and thank you for sharing your knowledge and savvy with me 👍🙌😊
An excellent video, as always
Great job Hugh, Mines face id stopped working after being taken down a water slide
in my experience the rings around the camera only are lose on aftermarket housings. they are spotwelded on an original one
Hi Mr Jeffreys, Always thank you with the quality video. I've tried some iP 11 back chassis repair before, but I've found that there was constant glitch with wireless charging. Did you ever experienced this issue before?
Hey Hugh Jeffreys great wee video as always I wonder where did you get your tools from too fix the IPhone's? I would like too try and fix my two IPhone's but I don't have any tools and I don't have that heat plate that use in your videos.
Where do you buy the spare parts? I bought a replacement screen on eBay once but the quality was not as good as original. 😢
You didn’t mention that those aftermarket housings usually have horrible quality compared to the original ones. Screws often don’t match the original points and the anodizing much less durable. The phone scratches easier. The back glass is also much wicker so it’s much easier to break second time.
That depends on the manifacturer. You can find some realy good ones
Awesome job, Hugh. Even though I prefer Android phones like Samsung, Motorola, LG Electronics, and other phones rather than Apple's iPhones.
Even using heat not lasers to remove glass
LG my beloved
Do you like google pixel?
@@twizzygrizzly2163 hello there, tbh idk
O-ring plus liquid adhesive around the cameras should help keep them water resistant, too. Not for cave diving with, but maybe you'll get away with dropping it in a puddle or the bath.
Fascinating. 😊
Is there any issues not using the original Taptic Engine in the XR and the 11
I have my iPhone 11 Pro Max for over 4 years now and I still have the same silicone case, I never broke the display or backglass even though I'm a car mechanic. It's a tough phone if you put a case on
wow, good job
great video, definitely a pain in the
How's the water resistant with that back glass? Is it has the same effect with the Apple original?
*GOOOOD MORNING AUSTRALIAAAAAAAAAA*
I'm not from aussie but gooooooddddd mooorrrinng sir/madam
Seeing him pry chunks of glass from the back of the phone was like seeing myself picking out chunks of broken chocolate. Both are quite satisfying.
But only one is delicious. The other one is painful😒
@@markredf150 true story.
Ive been watching your vids for a few years and i love when you fix a destroyed iPhone and make it brand new again can you fix my broken iphone xr ?
Yes
Makes sense
You do understand that all the small glass particles you didn’t clean may puncture the battery or get inside camera lens?
I've seen repairs on the original glass back of some iPhones and the technician had to use a glass breaker
Samsung back glass is so easy to repair. I repaired my old son cracked back and it was so easy. Just used a hair drying to hear it up and pulled it off. Put glue in the edges and it was done. So easy
where do you get your gloves from?
Can I use hair dryer as a heating tool. To remove the back glass ?
Any tutorial to upgrade the battery for this iphone 11? I’m still using it, and it still works alright.
Does the aftermarket back panel have that black circle over the Apple logo in order to get around inport customs?
Yes, apple has instructed customs to confiscate and destroy any item violating their trademark. This even includes refurbished original iPhone screens that had the glass replaced because the small flex cable has an even smaller apple logo on it.
Can you replace the glass back with any other material?
Morning Hugh 😊😊😊
Pls tell me how much costs a back glass repair with a good quality like the original and simular , and where can i get it
Wow awesome 👏.
I wonder why there are no other thirdy party options with the back being just plastic, shiny or frosted for that matter.
Great suggestion. Would 100% get that for myself
On second relization i don't think wireless charging would be that great with a plastic back
@@hassabnah3881 I can hardly think of a reason to use wireless charging. Especially on a phone, its slower and heats up the phone. Plus it requires the phone to sit flat on a surface meaning you pretty much cant use it while its charging unlike with a cable.
Id dosen't seem 2 minues ago since you repaired this Iphone this has to be fhe simplest back glass replacment I have ever seen
Laser technique is very easy, makes back glass replacement a lot faster But taking off pieces of glasses can be time consuming before the models of iPhone 12
am i able to purchase the back screen from your website? if so I am unable to find it on the website. please let me know and thank you
I really like that color.
I mean, if anyone can fix that phone Hugh Jefferys can! I know how much that sounds like an ad lol
It's better than the painstaking process by prying it, which is not original manufactured adhesives.
Which glue do you use?
who do you recommend for buying Iphone parts ?
Do you have charging problem on iOS 17
Hugh, just to satisfy my curiosity would you state the type of adhesive you are using?
I'll try to help, But i'm Not sure if I'm correct. He uses B7000 or B8000 Liquid Adhesive.
@@JankPods0201 Ok, gotcha. Thank you.
I cleaned my phone's screen when you put the new screen protector 😅
Please reply me , how much its costs to ntingan original bach glass replacement
Where can I get the back for this phone online?
Will this keep the water resistance?
What about water resistance after this repair ?
Well done, please get the owner to buy a case for that phone!
That seems painful to do lol. Also in case it happens again? Lol the person needs a subscription with you lol
stupid question Hugh how much would you typically charge for a back glass replacement of a samsung galaxy s20+ ? I looks like the back glass being glued on throughout is similar in nature to our dear apple counterpart here..... something i imagine cannot be particularly cheap if not in material cost then certainly in labour.
S20+ back glass is easy to do and should only cost you like $40
samsung back glasses are much easier to replace. you can probably get it done at a repair shop for 50€
@@Bashki-tech @karmakaze9972 cheers guys!!!!
For me, it was the easiest part to remove as my back glass had cracks so big in it that it started falling off the phone.
Glue brand?
Can you still get a 2g phone and call and text with it in Australia?
I’m always waiting for him to say: “and we’re done”
I have a weird question, I broke my display so I got it replaced but the replacement was installed incorrectly so the black frame covers the camera making the photos horrible quality, the thing is I broke the display again (still working, just cracks) and I don't currently have the money for a replacement, is it possible to remove the display without breaking it and then install it correctly?
Personally I’d put glue around the camera lens ring after putting the back on to try and further water proof it. I can see some liquid getting in through there if the phone got soaked
who decided glass was a good material for the back of phones? Totally scratching my head why a good quality plastic is mot used. Would not require a case and it would be a lot more durable. Better yet, make it removable and design it with a removable battery while they're at it like old phones used to do.
That would make a phone less likely to break, and to Apple, that means less $$$ from people paying for their authorized technicians or a new device altogether.
Long live the 5C❤
One reason could be wireless charging. After awhile, plastic will scuff and could interfere with wireless charging functionality. But like you said, it could feature swappable backs, so problem solved.
@@markredf150 I don't think scuffs would interfere with wireless charging. Metal definitely could, so you have a point there, but plastic doesn't. There's Android phones with plastic backs that are fully capable of wireless charging.
Excellent work reducing e-waste. No point throwing away an otherwise functional device for cosmetic reasons.
Perhaps a stupid question but why is a major chassis component made of glass ?
Can you repair iPod touches from the ewaste lot next video
Where can I order on a iPhone 14 Pro back?
What an aussie man. "Just simply remove the excess glue with my fingernail" lmao
Do they make plastic back glass for the phone so you don't have to keep repairing it?
No.
Well there is noway im replacing that much glue all on the entire back glass,,i'd do the perimiter and the perimeter of the metal shielding under back glass as this would be sufficient glue for such a repair.
can you not use plastic instead of glass for the back panel so it don t break easily?
The reason Apple used glass is because Steve Jobs had a prototype of the iPhone 1 with a plastic screen in his pocket, but it would scratch against things like keys and coins.
i personally love this color and have a green 12 myself (couldn’t find the purple 128gb in stock) and it’s really nice to see how much you made this phone usable! people are normalizing throwing away perfectly working devices for minor things such as broken back glasses, and that really seems so crazy to me. keep up the good work🩷🩷
Yay
My 11 pro max has 1 big crack on the back. I just put on a cover
I think my fix would have been, put it in a case and live with it.
I think tech reviewers are the problem when influencing companies on how to design devices. I remember MKBHD back in the Samsung Galaxy S3 days complaining that Samsung phones have no back glass and instead use plastic. Then saying they make the phones look cheap. (Ugh. 😒).
If they're not going to use plastic, then at least metal so it doesn't "look cheap." I like the design of the iPhone - iPhone 7 (excluding the iphone 4) better than the more recent ones for that reason.
MKBHD is - wanting or not - part of the self-sustaining commercial loop of electronic devices. Good plastic is an infinitely better choice for the back of a phone, but no, OEM use glass to transmit a feeling of luxury onto customers, and raise the prices. Just like the useless titanium strip on the iPhone 15. I would understand a titanium case, which would be extremely robust; but titanium used as an embellishments - it is just fooling the fools. No Apple for me - I have a Xperia 1 V and a Pixel 7 Pro.

Yup
I Agree. It's Just not the Same.
Onya Hugh
How much does it cost to replace the back of iPhone 12promax
nice nice
Man always change the frame for best quality
Using glass on the back of phones is in general a stupid idea. It has no true benefits over other materials, that don't shatter but cause various issues when shattered and when you want to change it. And I have a suspicion, the plan of the makers was to add an easily breakable component to phones, which many people don't bother to get repaired (if they can anyway) and so selling more phones. Afterall we know, that sustainability isn't a priority for most big companies. Profit, it always comes to pure profit. I believe my now 6 years old phone also has a glass back panel, but it never broke because I am always having it in a thick case. And even if it did, I wouldn't care, because it doesn't matter under the case. Visuals are secondary at best, my phone could be beaten to the moon and back, I would not change anything, if it still worked fine and had a usable screen.
Does anyone make plastic back replacements for these phones?
this video gave me ptsd from my old phone
prying the glass need some concentration and patience since it feels pretty annoying to do
Did Apple just send anyone a new phone when send in for repair? I'm very curious how apple repairs the back glass
Such a phone design should be prohibited by law. Unbelievable how much work it is to just replace the Back Glass.
I will NEVER send a single penny to Apple after all I've seen them do to thwart repairs of their products. I only wish more people realized what kind of company Apple is.
Same here as Well! I despise Apple nowdays, Because i Can't Log on to FaceTime on my iPhone 4S, And on New Years as Well! I'm not sure if It's a Software issue, Or a Hardware issue, Cause i Dropped it.
Next time when you replace tha back - remove a battery and camera, glass shards can easily fall insade the camera and can damage the battery
I'd have a talk to the 'family member' :-)
