Law School vs. Med School: Which Is Harder?
Devin Stone, the Legal Eagle himself, challenged me to a debate over which was harder: Med School or Law School. So he got a COVID test and came to New York to hold a mock trial face to face. Med School was BRUTAL, but I never spent a moment in law school so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Devin has debunked legal misinformation from famous movies like Legally Blonde and shows like Suits, so I was in for a challenge. Needless to say, Devin brought his A-game and showed me a thing or two. What do you think? Which is harder? Let me know in the comments.

Lawyer came with receipts 😂
My dad is a lawyer and he made a great comparison between being a doctor and a lawyer. Simply put, the stakes are often higher for a doctor. A lawyer may be faced with a problem and have a week to think about it to reach the right conclusion. A doctor may be faced with a problem and have minutes to reach the right conclusion. And if he fails, there’s a dead body that he’s responsible for. It’s kind of like bus drivers and pilots. Both are jobs where you are transporting lots of people. But if a bus breaks down with passengers, it’s an inconvenience. If a plane breaks down with passengers, it’s a crisis where you must make the right move or hundreds of people will die.
You explained everything well....
You're actually comparing ER doctors with lawyers who are working on a document. The reverse is also true: Consider family or general practice doctors giving routine advice. Meanwhile, you also have trial lawyers arguing an appeal in front of a judicial panel. If they trip up on the caselaw or the facts, the loss is often in the tens or hundreds of millions-which affects a ton of employees and their families. So, there are high stakes in both professions.
@@romanviceI agree. This mindset of all doctors being put in a situation where someone might die in an instant is not true. It almost deterred me from applying too. You can, however, die (from the inside, or otherwise) if you're a lawyer and you embarrass yourself on TV somehow and end up causing huge losses to your client. Both schools have their own challenging specialties that are all optional.
If a lawyer fails to prosecute a murderer, than more people are vulnerable to being murdered
well said!
I am an attorney. My daughter is a doctor. I can say unequivocally that Med School is much, much harder, and the training after far more difficult for doctors. It seems like boards are like taking the bar twice in med school, once in residency, and once after. The bar was hard, but I only had to take it once. The California bar pass rate is around 20%, though. It is hard! I was married with one young child and got pregnant halfway through (don’t try that at home!) and graduated 2nd in my class.
Omg 😱. That’s incredible. Great job.
@zzzz I am in solo practice in a niche area connected to my prior career. You can do many things besides associate to partner track if you have the motivation. As far as getting in, don’t overlook non-traditional programs if you’re not into the partner track. At almost 40 when I started and one-then two young kids at home- I had no desire to play the billable hours game. Life is too short to make money for someone else.

How do you get people to not ask you so many legal questions?" And the lawyer said," oh that's easy I answer it and then I sent him a bill in the morning." The doctor thought this was a great idea. Nerissa Roxas well, it’s your life, so live it how u want to. You’re the one who’s gonna put fourth time & effort into your profession, not your parents. Therefor, the final decision is yours to make. my parents want me to become an engineer like my dad, but i’m more into psychiatry so i’lll probably stick with that. so, if u value your quality of life / happiness more than acceptance from your parents, become an architect~! u are u so be u ( i edited this because my dumbassness made me click enter instead of space 🤦♀️ )
As a Law Student, I think Med school is harder. But it’s easier to be successful as a Doctor than it is being successful as a lawyer. Doctors are always trusted in their field, while us lawyers struggle to get our name out. At least that’s what I’ve seen
I would agree with that, but I also think part of the reason that is true is just because there arent enough doctors
My two favorite moments in Med School occurred at graduation for 2 specific reasons: 1. Because my dad was an alumnus of the same school, he was allowed (in cap and gown) to hand me my diploma on stage when my name was called. I’ll never forget that moment. 2. Two days after graduation, I married my longtime fiancée. After a one week honeymoon, we drove across country to begin a new life (for me, that meant starting my internship). 42 years later we’re still married, I’m still practicing medicine and my wife still puts up with me. My worst memory of med school: rounding on patients during my internal medicine rotation: round by myself first, then round with the intern, then with the chief resident, and finally, with the attending, bombarded with tough (read: impossible) clinical questions each time (known as "getting pimped"). A miserable rite of passage; my low back has never recovered from the hours of standing day after day and my ego remains bruised!
In conclusion, just school is hard

2:32 "almost all of your grade is based of one test at the end of the semester" my country education system in a nutshell
An old colleague of mine (who just finished his PhD as I was starting mine) moved from science to medicine. His take was that the medicine degree was a lot more work (volume/hours etc), but that his PhD was intellectually way harder. He mentioned the amount of memorizing required for medicine, and did mention some dissatisfaction that he didn’t feel that he was studying science anymore, but rather just learning to memorize and apply the products of science. I’ve got no skin in the game …but that was his take.
I can empathise with that. I have a science background (only to MSc level though, not PhD) but am now in law school in a Common Law country. In my experience law is a bit like the way your colleague described medicine, i.e., there is lots of rote learning. The concepts involved are really not that difficult (except for maybe a few awkward and unintuitive ideas around trusts and land law), but there is so much of it. It's death by a thousand cuts. Simple ideas, but an enormous number of them that are described in their own special language and that must be backed up by specific legislation, case law, etc. It's a different sort of challenge than something which is more conceptually complex.
Currently near exams and I can relate to this so hard. I'm a bad student so a large part is on me but it feels like the only parts in struggling with is memorising medications, contraindications and signs and symptoms of disease, whereas the actual application of such things when I actually manage to wrap my head around it comes pretty intuitively
I too think that 😢
Of course a PhD is harder lol. A bachelor of medicine and surgery is just that- a bachelor's degree. It's a lower level of education even if it makes you a doctor.

He also forgot to mention that like medicine, learning doesn't stop in law school, for every complex or even easy cases, there is still something to learn because different situations results to different solutions that never been thought to law school it's like you're on your own when you're finally become a lawyer and take note, a lawyer does doctorate degrees as well to become a judge or justice, it's like finding a needle in a haystack, meanwhile the same goes for med students
Mike : "Doctors vs Lawyers, who's smarter.." _Engineers have entered the chat_ Mike: "who's more handsome" _Engineers have left the chat_
Hahaha
Hahaha
Big LOL
now now ...
Well, you're screwed once the doctors, lawyers, and engineers turn out to be female.
This is the funniest episode, esp. the beginning "Bee-Woop", "Woo-beep" and "Oooh, Medical" 😂😂😂
I was looking for this comment! I cackled.
😂😂😂😂
Wow.This was great...Now I really want to see a battle of "Doctor Mike vs Law by Mike"
One of my favorite crossovers ngl.
Doctor Or Lawyer? My parents: YES
Asians ?
@@last5902 haha'
My parents don't respect anything out of stem so no law for me
I choose option 3: engineer
A Doctor Lawyer!
Doctor: You did a good job if you improved a person's life. Lawyer: You did a good job if you can convince someone you did a good job.
🤣🤣🤣
True tho
the accuracy tho
Lawyers improve people’s lives all the time
@@ricky6608 And lawyers also destroy people's lives all the time. The standard for judging whether or not the lawyer did a good job is _not_ that they helped someone, but rather that they _convinced a judge or jury_ that their interpretation of the law was more correct than the other lawyer's interpretation - regardless of who that may help or hurt.
More content like this, i'm learning so much🥰
Love love all your content
“Wow you must be really good at sports.” “Nah debate.” Lol the sarcasm tho
Well, I'd rather have the lawyer with debate throphies than sports trophies
I literally jumped from medical school to law school. This is entertaining af.
I would love to hear your opinion
" af" . I hope you don't start using that in the courtroom.
@@emperoremyhriv4968 “Your honor, my client is innocent af”

@@nightwalker9875 "your honor, the defendant is sketchy af"
