I didn’t think Nairo Quintana could still do THIS | Tour de la Provence 2022 Stage 3
Lanterne Rouge presents highlights of Stage 3 of Tour de la Provence 2022, the Queen stage of the four day race with a nasty final climb of 13.4 km at 6.5%. The excitement of this stage was inevitable, and we had our fingers crossed to see some of the peloton's strongest climbers including Nairo Quintana and Julian Alaphilippe launch it on that final climb.
We also see who takes out the general classification: would Filippo Ganna defy the odds and hold onto the leader's jersey? Or would strong climbers Nairo Quintana and Julian Alaphilippe come out on top?

Website looks legit! Nice one LR.
The article looks amazing, great job!
If this Karlis Ozols keeps pumping out articles like that he has my vote for president of wherever the fuck he's from
@@larslosh5598 Thanks. I'm too young to be the president of Latvia yet. Need to wait 19 years to be eligible
I know it's most likely not happening, but I'm so pumped for the Nairoman Tour de France hype train.
TTs will destroy Nairo's dream unfortunately. He will loose 5 minutes or more in this year's time trials at the Tour against Pog and Rog and probably also against racers like Vindegaard.
@@derstolperjochen1719 Well he's actually going for the green jersey this time around #NairoInGreen
@@AndresGarcia-hu8ij 🤣🤣🤣 and Jakobsen and van Groenewegen battle for the polka dot jersey
He will probably race the Giro, almost no time trials there this year.
he'll just be an average climber or an excellent one for a single stage at any grand tour😅
The world of cycling is a better place with Quintana as a factor. LR - again - first class analysis.
Exactly. It's felt like recent years the neophytes and Roglic can just exert themselves with general impunity. I wanna see podium spots being in doubt through the end...let alone the leader's jersey. A dangerous Quintana can only help.
Yup. Enough said 👍
I would love nothing more that to see Quintana win a Tour.
Great to see Nairo getting back to his best.
he's on a much better program now ;)
Because of his punch Alaphillipe can always, and often does, close any gap that opens up in front of him, even if it means going over his limit. It's not the first time we see him completely crack like that, I wonder if they would have been able to limit the losses had he stayed in the small group with his teammate all along.. Probably not enough given Quintana's form but still in those moments you can tell he is not a natural at GC racing, more of an all-or-nothing guy
It reminds me of Thomas veockler in 2011. All or nothing. But i don't think he would have done this during TDF
I completely agree I believe if he would have stayed with the group he had a better chance of winning gc. Team Management should of advise him not to go with nairo if he attacks and stay with your group to limit your losses and win overall instead of a Stage win
He wanted to win GC and a stage win... a lot of times with the Caliber of these Riders you have to pick one of the other
You're totally right, Alaphillipe is the perfect Classics rider with his really punchy petrol engine. He has the wrong engine for GC. It's not his fault but team management should be more realistic about it. If Alaphillipe loses that amount of time attempting and failing to stay with Quintana on the queen stage of a tour that doesn't even feature Pogacar or Roglic, you gotta ask what the objective was?
@@rubielrodriguez2144 I’d argue that Alaphillipe was trying to stay with Quintana because he couldn’t rely on the group working to minimise the time gap to Quintana. With the bonus seconds that Quintana would pick up for winning the stage, Alaphillipe knew his GC lead would vanish. So he wanted to stay with Quintana for as long as possible. The trouble is Quintana is so wise & cool headed, he knows exactly how to deal with Alaphillipe and completely destroyed him!
I was almost getting anxious, a Nairo win, but no LR video on sight :( :(
Matteo Jorgenson is AWESOME, i am on the same junior team he was
I sincerely hope he is back. He’s an amazing climber when everything is clicking and not having bad luck
Fantastic recap on this race and the others running simultaneously. The best service available anywhere and by far. Well done and thanks.
You were so poetic when describing Quitana’s ride!, 😆
Alaphillipe always rides like a champion. Never leaves anything out on the course. Absolutely love the way he goes about his business.
Nairo is my favourite rider. Im so happy for him.
I'd love to see Nairoman in the Giro given the lack of TT km.
YES
He's not riding for Movistar anymore, who had Valverde, Landa, Soler etc. to start at the Tour even when they sent their best GC rider to the Giro. He's riding for a French Pro Conti team. Their whole reason of existence is showing themselves at the Tour. Are they even invited to the Giro?
@@andrew7taylor yea they're invited to all World tour races because they're one of the two best pro Conti teams
"El Condor" is back - i hope to see him at TdF. Alaphillipe sure not at his peak, but nevertheless impressive performance from Arcea.
Ok picture this - stage 12 TDF - 4 guys out the front on the final climb up Alpe D’Huez - Pogacar, Roglic, Bernal and an in-form Quintana - tell me that wouldn’t get you going! Then little Mickey Storer catches up and drops the big 4 to take the victory! The TDF is made as much for legend as for victories.
The victory is impressive, but if we put it to perspective: He outclimbed Ghebreigzabhier by 46 seconds. And although I like the Eritrean and think he is underrated, a peak Quintana would outclimb him by more. However: We don't know if Quintana is on peak form or just getting warmed up for some truely epic rides.
I don't think hes anywhere near the level of riders like Pog and Rog realistically, but wouldn't be surprised that with these kind of performances he takes a stage or the polka dot jersey at the Tour.
Contador 's record dropped, it' s just amazing to see how Alaphilippe just can't respond, Condor is flying higher!!!
Nairo is in an impressive form! I am shocked. I would love to see him in this form in the grand tours this year.
Thank you for all the race analysis LR! Btw. the website is looking sharp!
question of the day: was it a thermonuclear attack?!?!??!
When he leaves 15+ riders behind?!?! Try to do it your self! O wait you’re not a powerhouse rider nvm, and there is only 4 like him in the peloton, you might want to watch more cycling 🚵♀️😂😅🤣

A chorine gas attack would be a bit awkward... 🙄
@@manuelcarvajal3992 damn bro you okay?

Great analysis as always 👍
I was really looking forward to the Bernal vs Pog showdown in France this year. With Bernal out, it would be great if Quintana was in the mix to make things interesting. He may not be at the level Bernal could be or his previous best, but the more riders in the running the better.
I would love to see him flying on TDF climbs.
This year's Tour route favors a pure climber. There are only two time trials, and both of them are pretty short. Of the climbing stages, most have mountain top finishes - much more than in recent years. Of course, the route favors Pogacar, too.
Top class analysis, thanks
Nairo is most compelling cyclist out there! Hope he’s in top form for TDF in 5 months!
Is Quintana back? Don’t know since a 4 day race is WAY different than a Grand Tour. Is he a threat for Tour de France GC? Did he get Slovenian citizenship? The only way he wins the Tour is if Roglic crashes out again (likely… sigh), and Taddei decides to eat a bunch of burgers and puts on 30 lbs. Pog/Rog easily stay with Q, full stop. BTW, announcers said Ganna sustained 1100 watts for 26 seconds at the sprint yesterday. Crazy! Love the analysis.
Provence Nairoman is better than prime Pog and Rog it's hard facts.
Yes this is indisputable
Is it real ?
@@polochbabaaient2223 no it's all a simulation.
Nairo peaking for wrong race again
@@zigam maybe, maybe not. Pretty sure Arkea are very happy with his performances in Provence.
Great video. Great riding by Quintana!
Beautiful reportage, LR. I watched a version from another source (GCN?) that was not nearly so engaging or thorough. Muy bien hecho.
Been fired up all day to hear the Quintana hype after this stage
Nairoman showed signs of life last year. Awesome to see him back in the mix.
Erlier I was routing for a full throated challenge from Bernal/Ineos to the Rog/Pog domination at the TDF. But I would be happy to substitute Quintana into that mix.
NAIROMAN IS BACK. He doesn’t have the team or the TT to beat the Slovenians but TDF podium or stage win is definitely possible
As long as he can make a show of it in the mountains. Watching Pogacar slam everyone again would just not be fun.
@@yumyumhungry I don’t think Pog is that much better than Rog. If Roglic is on last year form he will be right there
@@nolabob5047 And Pogacar is just 23 year old so his top shape is still coming.
@@kesavek11 yes you’re right. I think this year or next year will be the last year Roglic can hang if Pog keeps progressing. Pog seems to be focused on things other than tdf this year so we will see
Total, ag2r and trek is an overload of brightness
@LR did you get another call from Nairoman telling you he lit the mountain on fire? Still one of my favorite Instagram clips of all time
Proud of you Patrick. You called Nairoman out as a very hot man to take the mountain stage!
Would love to see some pod discussion on WTF Sosa and Movistar were doing. Cost themselves a podium spot.
Wow Nairo! Colombia should be proud of having him and Bernal. Im jealous! Greetings from Chile. Saludos!
Good to see the Colombian crush it today! Great video and analysis! Well done!
yeah so good to see Quintana going well
Great to see NAIROMAN dishing it out again!
Nice to see him back again
Quintana is in great shape. The one week races suit him. Not sure if he is resilient enough for the 3 weekers. If I hadn't watched you and Benji discuss the points scenario, I would not have pegged him to win. It's interesting to see how the relegation factor is impacting the early season, which has been stellar, along with your coverage!
I’m hyped as well let’s go Nairo!!
I hope he is back. But it is early in the season and plenty if riders will be peaking later on. As well as some heavy hitters to come into the fold
I knew you'd be super stoked about this stage win, with the +10s bonus he exceeded your hopes from your previous video. Happy for the Columbian Condor.
Love to see Quintana on the podium in July
I’ll be pumped even if he just takes a tour stage or 2 in the mountains.
I just got the 12spd dura ace disc groupo. It's heavier than my 7800 from 19 years ago lol. No wonder he swapped to rim brakes.
i would LOVE to see some vintage niaro in the tour. wow
i don't know if he is back back but i sure hope so i love the little guy
Glad to see Nairo in good form again. Impressive.
This seems like flat-track bully stuff to me. He certainly looks better than he has for a while, but it's been a pretty low bar of late. When the pressure is really on he never seems to fancy it, plus I don't think he believes he can mix it with the elite any longer, but it would certainly be interesting to see him stir things up in the grand tours if he can keep his form going. As an aside, I've been really impressed with Arkea, Cofidis and TotalEnergie early season, so much so, that I'm given to wonder if the hierarchies of all three watched the LR relegation pod and resolved to get the finger out early this year. Regardless, it's nice to have any kind of intrigue regarding the tail-end of the peloton.
Total direct énergie looks like a top top team now. Don't know if it the kit and the specialized sponsors but the team is nothing like before.
Total energie, Arkea, and Cofidis have all stepped up their game. But B&B is still trash. It’s a shame they got selected over Uno-X for the Tour de France
@@alexhazard6871 At least we'll see Pierre Rolland go for a historic tenth top 40 on gc
Nairo’s problem is the energy spent to keep up in week 1, nullifies his level when the road goes up.
@@drym3943 LR will tell you that without any doubt, it's because of the red bikes.
Quintana is back!!!!
Love seeing Nairo in form attacking the steep stuff 😛 I wouldn't count him out of GC contention for TdF, the Slovenians are just so damn consistent doing it back-to-back-to-back 😄
Love to hear LR give in to his strong feelings for Naiorman
Great analysis. I wish we could see Quintana at his 2015 level, but I don't see that happening. He can still produce very spectacular one day wins, but he misses some consistency and team strength to outperform the new emerging talents of the peloton in a 3 week race. Difficult to gauge his level relative to other competitors at such an early stage of the season.
Fun fact about Nicholas Debeaumarche: He shares his last name with Apu Nahasapeemapetilon's stage persona when Apu was in the "B Sharps"
Quintana is not back back. But it is good seeing him fighting for this kind of races. It is another story having Roglic and Pogacar in the same race.
so much looking forward to Paris Nice, for a showdown Nario VS Primoz..
He’s back!
Oh yeah, Quintana is back, the condor just start flying , we are going to see fireworks at Le tour of France. Thanks for the video, man.
Opened up 10 seconds in 2 seconds exactly.
" El condor de los andes" .. Wonderful...
Love the way you say "El Condor de los Andes"
El condor de los Andes indeed, greetings from Colombia !
Hopefully he is back!
What about uphill finish TT's where riders have a road bike waiting for them to switch at the base of the climb?
Nairo is certainly going to add some fireworks at the TDF if he keeps this up. Maybe TDF Alaphilippe could have closed the gap or not have made that error (his words), but not sure it would have made a difference here. Clearly Nairo was strongest. Thanks for this clip!!
Great stuff! No chance for the Tour win and podium not likely, 4th or 5th at TdF could be on the cards
Website looking great LR 👌
Wow ineos's marginal gains game is absolutely wild.
Is Niro back yes... haven't seen him in this form for a couple of season s however...I still don't know what that means ... he's not beating the Slovenians but if he stage hunts at TDF he ought to be able to steal a stage.

Good to see Nairoman back, although I'm still very doubtfull of how durable he will be in a 3 week GT.
Yes, especially going against Pogacar... let's see!
Maybe!! But I need to see him do this a couplmore times before the Tour!!

All bets on nairo from now on. Also shout out to Ghebreigzabhier...beating jala on the climb. Looked strong.

Nairoman goes THERMONUCLEAR! I know this cos I've just registered 3.6 Roentgen. Not great, not terrible.....
that's as high as the meter goes!! it's over 25000!
I've heard its little more than a chest xray
Reminds me of Nairoman in February 2020 before corona. Only another pandemic can hold Nairo off his first TdF win
"An ephemeral image of good times past ..." But, we can always dream, right? Nairo-man maybe mixing it up in July? Exciting stuff.
actually the rules are understandable, who knows what's are those bike from the road side instead of the team car, could be under 6.8kg or even got a motor in it, not saying TopGunna need one though
But the bikes get checked after the finish tho
Multiple changes? Or the bike gets 'stolen'!
Was this the rule introduced after the 2002 Tour Down Under incident? Michael Rogers won the GC on a spectators bike, which as the same as his sponsors bike. kzhead.info/sun/Y5amc8popauveKM/bejne.html
Sofa king stoked for my local hero Matteo!
BACK IN BUSINESS NAIRO ♥
Nairo Quintana needs someone with short rider fit experience. The 52.9cm top tube and the reported 110mm stem on the Canyon means a forward saddle position which does his knees no favors.
Nairoman was doing it using a Canyon Aeroad, not even Ultimate!
“It’s not about the bike “
Milan-san Remo predictions? Colbrelli?
Love the content, but I'm going to have to turn the notifcations off my subscription as I keep getting the spoliers in the titles!
Nairo Quintana is back!
Yo what is up with the 1.5 speed about a third of the way into the vid?
I hope he's back back. He's a great rider and I'd like him to do well.
Nairo is back back baby!
Quintana looks good! The DQ was odd to me. Seems like I’ve seen riders do that in the past.
I've seen it in TTs, but I don't know of a rider getting a replacement bike from a team staffer off the side of the road before in a road race. (There is the Michael Rodgers taking the lead of the 2002 Tour Down Under off a roadside replacement bike event, but that was from a spectator and due to a crash so different circumstances)
Hun I don't need a Valentines day gift, since NAIROMAN is back baby!
