  • Thank you Dr. Mike for debunking these weight loss theories. They can be so harmful to people. Back in high school, during the mid 2000's, one of my best friends was anorexic and was always coming to school with articles from magazines that were filled with promises to lose fat quick. I watched one of my best friends go from a beautiful, outgoing girl to a shell of herself and it killed me that the only thing I could do was give her moral support. Especially when I found out that another one of our 'friends' was calling her fat and ugly when no one else was around. And despite everything she was going through, she was the first one to support when I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and even came to visit me in hospital. If only there were videos like this back then, maybe she would have been more open to seeing that these 'articles' weren't what they seemed to be.

  • I think it’s really important when talking about “the pooch” that it’s often regarding women who have had children. Women have organs that men don’t have and we get our skin stretched out when carrying children, it’s not always realistic to “lose the pooch” because the pooch is simply their body changing due to carrying children.

    @Duckduckobtusegoose@Duckduckobtusegoose4 ай бұрын
    • That "pooch" could also be from a weakened core / diastasis recti as a result of pregnancy. And in that case, it does need to be solved because a problematic core can cause other issues.

      @hudamn2297@hudamn22974 ай бұрын
    • @@hudamn2297 for some for sure! For many, it’s just skin that’s just been stretched out from growing a human. A flat stomach isn’t attainable for most women(not including teens in this). It just wasn’t even touched on at all that it’s not always something that can be changed so that was the main reason for my comment. I get that for some people it can be fixed, which is what he said, I’m speaking about the opposite, but I appreciate some other scenarios where it can be changed☺️

  • These videos destroyed me, physically and mentally. I started doing these kinds of "diets". I know, it was a stupid thing to do, but anyway, I started it and ended up with an eating disorder that almost sent me to the hospital. I couldn't even close the car door due to muscle weakness. I'm better now but still, with everything I eat, I will always check the calories of a product or food I have on my plate. I also have this belief that I need to lose weight the whole time and that doesn't help me much psychologically. Please, if anyone wants to lose weight (and not their health), then you can see a nutritionist to make you a diet plan and to give you proper advice on whatever question you have, or you can start a healthy program for yourself, but for this, you will need either a proper diet or a way of exercising that suits you best. • @@oceaneo4603 people “need” a nutritionist in order to learn to eat healthy? The internet exists, people can learn about healthy eating on their own if they just want to read a bit. Even a good rule of thumb to primarily just shop the perimeter of the grocery store is a good rule of thumb that can at least have people understanding “whole and lightly processed foods = good” / “ultra-processed foods = not so good/bad”. Don’t overcomplicate things. With over 70% of Americans overweight, it’ll just prevent some people from taking that first step of beginning a healthy eating lifestyle if they think it’s this overly difficult thing which isn’t attainable without employing a nutritionist - which just isn’t true. I mean - it couldn’t be farther from the truth, because as I said, while they can surely be helpful, they aren’t needed…at all (unless someone has a serious medical condition, I suppose).

At the same time, it would be incredibly beneficial if you could also provide guidance on the proper methods. Wishing you continued success and looking forward to your insights.

  • As someone who deals with belly fat and constantly changes the mindset between “this isn’t healthy, work out” and “it won’t hurt you, you’re enough, just ignore it”, i wish it was that easy. I eat pretty healthy, and I exercise some time a week. I might just eat too much fast food and don’t exercise. Just, I wish it was easier.

  • Thanks doctor Mike, I totally agree with the last part. There are some very good tips one can change in the video and as a woman I also agree with eating less and more often (more stable energy levels through the day and never eating till completely full so that you'd feel you can "last" 12 hours in between). And eating plenty protein is also not a bad idea along with some healthy carbs in the form of vegetables and whole fruits. Just the way they present it is so so wrong... Such a shame and shows how much influence the language we use has on us and how we feel about ourselves.

My real victory was NOT putting all the weight back on once I put the chocolate and cheese and biscuits back into my diet. In fact, I kept on losing more weight, which was scary. Doing fine now, fortunately.

Having worked for a leprosy charity in the past, it’s something I frequently see misunderstood or used as a throwaway joke without people really knowing what it is or does. Maybe a quick fire vid of diseases in media/online that are spoken about inaccurately?
