  • Sawyer acknowledged on a podcast recently that it was a mistake making skill-based dialogue options almost always the objectively best ones in FNV, and in Pentiment they fixed it by still telling you which lines are unlocked by your choices, but they can be bad; that way your roleplaying is acknowledged but you have to consider your words.

    @aspacelex@aspacelex Жыл бұрын
    • I'd say the problem is more to the engine than the design it self. For exemple, saving Necropolis in the first game is entierly based on you Repair skills, to repair their water pump which will make them survive thrive. You dont go in dialogue for that and thats the main issue with FNV and 3. If you could have the best outcome because you wished it, the game would be just a VN with FPS gameplay. F4 actually does it in some quests, and its not actually pretty to see.

    • @@theberserker6000 What distinction you're trying to draw, there's plenty of quests and general interactions you solve with skills outside of dialogue, FNV's innovation was adding other skills to conversations. Not sure what your last point means.

      @aspacelex@aspacelex Жыл бұрын
    • @@aspacelex There was other skills than speech in dialogue too before man, FNV didnt do anything new. What I meant is simple, because of the limitation of the engine we see more interaction in dialogues rather with the world environement, using your skills to get over an obstacle, quests or simply for curiosity. Thats also because FNV is more a console game than PC game compared to the classic so in terms of interactions its not all up there but here we are right now.

  • Voice of Uncle Sam the Info Dumping Barkeep here. A little late on the discovery of this video, but I find it very cool to see people highlight this mod and also acknowledge the amount of dialogue Uncle Sam had. A little bit of info on that, the mod creator had the role of Uncle Sam as the only non-volunteer work and was actually paid due to sheer amount of lines with the ghoul voice. I was very early in my voice work at the time and by the end of recording I nearly tore my throat out but I definitely enjoyed contributing to such a unique mod for New Vegas. 👍

  • the issue I have when I write my mods is that the amount of people who actually care and are going to listen through all the lines and not just skip to the quests. its hard to balance this to what people want to play so I keep it for what I want to play, the info dump is optional and not overwhelming. IM NOT THE DEV OF THIS MOD BTW IM ANOTHER MOD DEV

  • I think when the mod first released, the Traveller at the beginning of the mod spawns in Zion rather than outside of Goodsprings. In addition, he would only appear after you resolved the main quest of the Honest Hearts DLC. I'm happy to see this is no longer the case because I can imagine most players not being able to discover this NPC naturally before leaving Zion. I also remember a bounty style quest in Arid Creek that I was stuck on for hours because the NPC I was looking for didn't have a unique name. He instead was just called resident or something, and there were like 10 other NPCs with that name. The base game and other quest mods drilled into me the habit of only talking to unique NPCs, and to not waste my time with generic background characters, so this quest was a kick in the nuts for sure. As for the vehicle travel system. I absolutely adore it. Sure it's a bit tedious, but I was blown away by the fact that this game could even include something like this. It blew me away when I first used it.

  • One the things I always think about when considering Fallout 2 is the very end part with a scientist whom you can convince to release the virus into the are of the Enclave oil rig. He quotes from 'The Tiger' a poem by.. William Blake or some other dead guy. It's part of two poems that work as a pair, the other being a lamb. I didn't know that til much later. The lamb is about how sweet and harmless the lamb is. The Tiger speaks of it's beauty and ferocity, asking did god who made the lamb, really also make the tiger? There's no god, but there is beauty and ferocity both in mankind. In the nuke. It's a terrible, destructive thing. It is beautiful and fierce. I will always remember "When the stars threw down their spears, and watered heaven with their tears, did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the lamb make thee?" I'm not religious, nor was that scientist npc probably. But he knew what he was doing, the weight of the task, the terribleness of either choice, to kill the enclave or let them kill so many more. Anyone, I hope no one reads my stupid comment and wastes their time. If you did, thanks.

  • This mod looks sick and I'd love to play it. BUT I have one serious gripe. What's with the use of Tā Moko on the tribals' faces? Tā moko is very culturally significant for Māori, and removing it from its context and putting it in a New Vegas mod set in Salt Lake is jarring! That said, I don't know how much to blame the mod author for this really, seeing as in modernity a lot of indigenous imagery worldwide is viewed as interchangeable. For anyone who wants to know, here's some basic info about what Tā Moko actually means (though bear in mind this is from a Pākehā--European-descended New Zealander--perspective). Tā moko is a traditional form of tattoo that comes from various indigenous people groups from Aotearoa/New Zealand. It's a tradition that goes back many centuries for Māori, and the patterns will differ by iwi (tribe) and hapū (sub-tribe). I've had it explained to me by a woman who wears it as both a way of acknowledging maturity, status, achievement and service, and telling the story of one's ancestors. Women typically wear it only on the chin, while men will have theirs added to over time, and the moko may build over someone's life to cover the whole face. There is too much to put into a youtube comment to do moko justice. I think it's important to start to educate about this stuff though, if we are to move away from the mindset of indigenous peoples as interchangeable. Moko isn't just a bunch of markings to put on a tribal character to make them look cool and different, it's practice that was almost lost and is having its significance fought for in modern society, along with the Māori language and various other practices here in Aotearoa. We shouldn't rob it of its context like this! I may still play the mod, but this aspect is uncomfortable for me. Not sure whether to blame the mod author too much, like I said, but it'll at least make that section of the mod a bizzare experience! I know this isn't related to the video overmuch in the grand scheme, but I do think it's an important point to bring up. If you read it, thanks!

The author was a very kind and talented man. But like you said some parts were cut because of timing which was a bit of a let down. But I did really enjoy voicing the mod. And each character had to have a unique style of talking to represent their personalities. I could go into detail into how but I won't since I don't want to bore you. If you want a series of mods that goes DEEP it would be this. It starts off with The Initiation, Eliza/North Road Remastered (I think they run around the same time), and finally the Depths of Depravity for the full story, I don't think the series is fully done yet, considering you still have the big bad guy to deal with.

  • I chose to take Norah with me as a companion. I know that sounds bad, and I still made an alternate save where I took her to the valley women, but I figured that with my Courier's high rep with the NCR, and his ridiculous amount of wealth, he could give her a lot more opportunities in life. The NCR has universities, prospering cities, and is generally a safe place; she could have a good education and the financial support to go into any career she wants, or even just to attend therapy with an actual psychologist (assuming the NCR has those). That's my thinking, at least. Plus traveling with her gives Last of Us vibes and I can't pass that up.

    • Most people I talked to took Norah in as their adopted child. It seems alot of people who played this mod are mostly dedicated RPers.

    • considering the modder that made this intended for Norah to be the companion you take from the mod into the base game and planned for her to have extra quests/ voiced comments on locations and base game companions and events but never got round to adding is a factor i don't think leaving Norah to collect mushrooms in a swap or live as a tribal is the right thing to do especially considering she lost her family to a psycho and without The Courier the same could happen again
