  • What a horrible idea to mark trees with paint, instead learn to use a compass and wear it on a lanyard around your neck. Please respect the out of doors.

    • You're right. But you see, it's just a hack people use during emergencies. For example, when you forget bringing your compass or navigator. You don't forget that everytime, do you?

    • .. Agree ,, DON'T DEFACE THE BACKCOUNTRY ENVIRONMENT !! ...........if you need to mark a trail ,, carry a length of bright colored para cord or surveyors tape ... remove when you leave on way out .. .. Save the artwork for your major cities ...

  • Chalk is natural and can be used for marking a trail or string tags, also last time we went out we needed walkie-talkies or radios as our phones didn't have service since we had people in different vehicles

  • I think using a plastic container to carry the matches would be a better idea. No glass breakage

    • Yes, I agree. I am heading to $ Tree to find a suitable replacement. Plastic could burn if melted by a match. I was thinking of something lightweight metal. Even something that you can use a canning jar ring on top of but metal below.

    • Just invert the inside to the outside. Always can put the matches in a baggie before the jar so they won't strike. Or cover up the striker with a baggie or Saran wrap.

  • Some of these are a bit of overthinking it. Rather than carving up the soap and storing the shavings just get an 89 cent plastic soap container. And you're camping... you don't have time to look for kindling so you use Doritos!? And the scrambled egg thing campers have known for years.
