  • The thing I learned when I was active in the speedrun community was that unless something is literally impossible for a human to input (rapid fire hopping in mario kart wii for example), then nothing will stop someone from trying. I've seen many many things that were at one point deemed "TAS only" because no one actually tried to do it long enough. most things are able to be done by a human, it just takes one person to go "hey look I did it!"

    • @@issadraco532 games weren't exactly meant to be played in one particular fashion. Sure, the majority of people who play Mario Kart play it casually, but that doesn't mean everyone has to. People could play games exactly how they want, and if they wanna waste dozens of hours for a single digit to go down, then so be it. The reason why people speedrun is simply to test the limits of the game in a competitive and entertaining-to-watch fashion. Sure, it may take dozens of hours, but that just goes to show how special it is to them. And sure it may be a time waste. But it's also entertaining as hell to watch, and I think that's exactly what games were made for: to be entertaining.

While i think that it isn't perfect, you have to limit things such as swearing to a certain level and if you let too much through people will just test and breach those limits. It still is an entertaining event and a great opportunity to show off runs and TAS's to a big audience (while also raising money for a good cause). And as Wirtual already participated in SGDQ 2020 Online he seems to at least somewhat agree with it.

Also, except in VERY rare occasions, TASes are getting beaten all the time too, just like normal speedruns! They are never perfect.

    @Wakssbm@Wakssbm2 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah at the moment it seems the human puts in the movement like they think is best. • May I just drop by to say something? Your channel recently got recommended to me and I love your style of producing the content you make, slowly working my way back into watching all of your videos from the past. I had been familiar with TM Nations, back in 2009 or maybe even 2008, when my (then best) friend really was into playing the solo campaign and also making tracks himself. Because of the fun I had watching your videos (and still being able to recognize a lot of the tracks), I decided to give another go at it. Tonight I downloaded the game from Steam (I was surprised to see that it's still free, awesome) and played through half of it. My driving skills, after all these years... They still suck 😂 But no, in all seriousness, I'd like to thank you for reminding me of some forgotten cool moments from a later part of my childhood, a transitioning phase from just a little kid into a little teen. Nowadays I'm neither anymore, I just turned 26 last June. Thanks for making me savor these little moments in my life just a little bit more. Wishing you all the best from The Netherlands.

    • The thing is, compared to other games that get TAS tools, they are used when games are emulated. You don't see a 2008 game for PC being TASed often, and you need a competent programmer to make such tool who knows how the game works internally. I think this is why it took so long for TrackMania.

I wonder if similar tools adjusted for more realism (slower speed, more mass, etc) would be useful for generating real-world pace notes for rallies and stuff like that. This is awesome.

These simulations are orders of magnitude more complex than TM tools though, because they have to account all sorts of things like wind, air pressure, temperature and moisture, track temperature etc

I feel this video tho makes the game seem pretty ridiculous. I get that the goal is to just get to the finish by any means possible... But this looks to take any fun out of it... And if it's based on getting help thru a tool assist programme, then any world record doesn't look credible in my VERY brief watching. I prefer the videos that players have clearly spent hours on their own trying to complete... Like the one where you went up multiple levels and fell a thousand times.... But it made the moment you finished it very satisfying. I also enjoy the competitions.

      @ChoJun69@ChoJun692 жыл бұрын
    • @@ChoJun69 I think we are confusing the terms here. Both could be considered a Tool Assisted Speedruns (cause they are speedruns that are assisted by external tools), but the cheated runs done with CheatEngine are bad, meanwhile purposely made TAS runs made with TMInterface by donadigo are good. Cheated runs competed against legit players, which destroys competitiveness and leaderboards. True TAS runs like these aren't competing with legitimate players, they are done so we can achive the best theoretical time, to see what's possible.
