Corrupt China: The Secrets Behind the State | Xi Jinping Government Corruption Documentary

They say that power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely. Realising that public anger at corruption was threatening the legitimacy of the Communist Party, President Xi Jingping launched a wave of corruption investigations when he came to power in 2012. ‘Economic crimes’ still carry the death penalty and in the past two years, over 300,000 officials have been punished - including ‘Red Prince’ and Politburo member, Bo Xilai. But is this enough to save the system? After all, as one protestor states: ‘If the people rise up….they are screwed.’
In China, where local Communist officials are omnipotent and everything from moving house to having a second child requires a permit, corruption has reached unprecedented levels. Billions of dollars have been embezzled and getting anything done usually involves paying a bribe. We go undercover to investigate the extent of corruption in China.
This film was first released in 2014.

  • It's more than admirable the utter courage of those Chinese journalists, as well as ordinary citizens, who face immediate repression for so openly exposing what's really been *"a way of life"* for the majority of Chinese officials (but also for the Chinese people in general, as a culture) for too long now. And I'm talking about expecting *"gifts"* from anybody, as a form of doing business/administering a place.. Is there any valid logic for that happening anywhere in the world, in the 21st century??!

    @joeenglishtv@joeenglishtv10 ай бұрын
    • its common respect in chinese culture, people give gifts to anyone more important to them, not as bribery, but to show that they have put time into choosing a respectable gift and that they have given time and consideration to the person. and, especially in chinese culture, gifts are kind of a scam, if you give someone a 50$ gift they return a 50$ gift to you, and in the end you neither gave money nor recieved any

Currently the vice president of the EU is under investigation for corruption.. Trust me, if she goes to jail it will be just 1 year, definitely not more.... In the West corruption is legalized, it's called lobbying! When people use the argument, "everybody knows that", like you do, they are always people who don't know what they are talking about.. You quoted two examples not of bribery or corruption, unrelated to the context of the video. Nonetheless, past mistakes of another country shall not be used as an excuse for today and future crime against the citizens of a country. Plus, if crimes are covered up, there is really no chance for remedy and prevention. So, your argument is irrelevant and empty.

The USA is strong, therefore it will not collapse in the near future no matter what American people say about the "coming civil war". However, there is indeed strong probability the UK will fall apart in 5, 6 years.

  • This corruption is not only affecting Chinese but has global implications as most of this ill-gotten wealth is used to buy prime real estate in Australia and Canada. It has pushed the house prices in Melbourne and Sydney to a level, where young Australians can't even think of buying a property especially near good schools, transport hubs or shopping centers. There have been cases when young Chinese students with no work history have offered to pay millions of dollars in cash upfront for a good location as they see it as the safest way to park the cash with no questions asked.

But your own greedy politicians who set economics policies and older homeowners who want a higher value for their real estates. Also housing is an earned purchase, not an entitled right. Why do people feel they even have the right to dictate prices of things that aren't even theirs, but not properties owners? Forcing prices against the market is stealing money from home owners of their property values. Who's the criminals here?

When has a politician in the Western democracies ever received a high jail sentence? Never, because they are all corrupt.. EU vice president, Eva Kaili is under investigation for corruption, she accepted like $600.000 USD from Qatar. If she goes to prison, it won't even be 1 year.. She probably won't even go to prison... THERE IS A GRAND LOOT OF EPIC PROPORTION , EVERY DAY IN INDIA SINCE THE EARLY 1980's. Corruption is deeply imbedded into the bureaucracy, Political Class AND inti Civil Society. When ranked by score, China ranked 65th among the 180 countries in the Index, where the country ranked first is perceived to have the most honest public sector.[28] For comparison, the best score was 90 (ranked 1), the worst score was 12 (ranked 180), and the average score was 43.[29] The 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index had showed decreasing corruption in China, and that in 2021 and 2022, for the first time, China had less perceived corruption than the average country; that is, China's 2021-22 score of 45 was higher than the average score of 43.[30][29] india is more corrupt then china. unfortunately, its only at 40 points, placed no 80 in the world lmao.

Just look at Westen nations, the people hate each other and the corruption is still very high... In the West, if you are rich, it's very rare to go to jail for fraud or corruption.. Politicians and billionaires never go to prison, it's extremely rare.. And the people in the West are not ruled by the govt, but by unelected companies.. US politicians work for Wallstreet not for the people... There are no presidents in the West, who have more than 50% support, normally it's much less.. You see the people are always divided in those countries... Look at the US, half the country hates the other half... This is what happens when you have a multiparty system... China has surpassed the West, because Chinese leadership and political system is superior to the idiotic West. Just look at Western leaders, absolute morons.. How is the West beating China? They aren't, China is winning easy!

  • This happens in america too. Mainly on the East coast I am told. My father was a trucker and he said if you didn't have a twenty dollar bill on your bill of lading clipboard, those forklifts aren't going to get to your truck for a couple of hours. If you want good tickets to a Knicks game slipping the seller a 20 opens up more seats to choose from. Or slipping the maître de a greenback will get you seated much sooner (like the seinfeld chinese restaurant episode). The difference in this country is: its not tolerated when your get caught. You're superior in the chain of command here isn't going to let you put his job in jeopardy so he'll blow the whistle on you, and that actually improves his standing within the corporate structure to do that.

  • Democracy does not prevent corruptions. Democracy en-cultures a more sophisticated corruption. Corruption is a moral issue. Corruption can take many forms. Every system of government can have corruption being practiced because they are run by human beings. To err is human. It is human nature.

    @philipwan2266@philipwan2266 Жыл бұрын
    • You are too pessimistic for me. Corruption is not an "error" committed by humans. It is the end result of societies designed by governments to maintain inequality so it favors the rich and those in power. This is all of them to some degree, without exception. The greater the inequality, the greater the corruption. Democracy exposes corruption, it doesn't prevent it nor does it fix it. Its value is in spreading awareness of it. It works. It seems in China people are quite aware of it in spite of all efforts to keep them from being so. But then again, that in itself is proof that something is rotten in the state of Denmark. The people in the village, the mayor .... this is what human beings are made of. We shine even in the direst of situations and we are a lot smarter than they think we are. Abraham Lincoln said it best a long time ago "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” The day of reckoning will come.

Most families now a days in China much prefer to only have 1 child instead of two. By the year 2100, china population will be half, meaning around 700million people will left, with a high increase of older people over the age of 65. Who will take care of them? it definitely won't be the state, it will be the tax payers. If the working population is gone, who else will pay into the system? There will eventually be a collapse in communist china like how america is in its decline right now.

It's not a smart thing to assess China with datas from 10 years ago, cuz that's like assuming the country hasn't developed at all in a decade. After all, China is not like any ordinary western nation, which really hasn't see any developments since probably the 2000.
