I feel like the reason that some blades break and others don’t is not only cuz of mistakes but it seems like they test one a little harder

Its also highly dependent on how the blade is made, if you look at it as % of metal a lighter weapon needs a higher % going towards reinforcing it to have the same strength of a heavier one, another factor is the structure of the metal even if they use the same steel depending on how fast they quench it as well as other processes it will have different structures a blade made of martensite will hold an edge great and will do way more damage to something like ice because it absorbs minimal energy when hitting but will at the same time shatter way more easily then a softer structure that does less damage

Short version: even with the same input force there are certain factors that will increase damage at the cost of being more brittle because it dissipates/absorbs less energy
