Full of natural voids, stress cracks, and unstable features, this olive burl was always going to explode, but I was determined to try and complete this project without the use of resin. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the only way to salvage this piece in the end.

Heavens……I can’t believe how you managed to snatch victory out of such a shattered defeat!!! Such a glorious, beautiful result, you’re a genius!!!
Thanks Beverley! I appreciate that.
Thanks for staying with it and going back to create an awesome piece. My gracious, I cannot imagine how your heart must have sunk when the original piece fell apart. The hours and days invested are way beyond what is captured in your excellent 20-minute video. Superb job!!
Thanks so much, Richard!
absolutely beautiful❤
I just stumbled on your channel for the first time. I am breathless! Even though you put "disaster' in the title, I was not prepared for the extent of devastation, But your recovery was far more astounding. The piece is breathtaking!!! AND, the camera work is phenomenal. Wow! I just subscribed after one video.
Thanks so much!
The sign of a true craftsperson - to have a disaster but then work out a way to still end up with a truly amazing piece of work. And even better - it has more of a story to carry with it - so stunning!
Thank you!
@@DavidAdamsen I'm not sure you'll see this but I was wondering how you would have applied the epoxy if it didn't break? Just hollow out the centre again filled with wpoxy instead of the replacement wood?
Craftsman'
It was fun to see the carving from the inside thanks to all of the gaps and holes. I'm not surprised that it shattered, but your rescue was wonderful.
Thanks Judy!
Our society really needs more channels like these to be recognized. We are losing how valuable and important it is to have craftsmen and women who are proficient and passionate in their works, as seen here. Truly, a magnificent redemption to a beautiful tragedy. Be safe! Keep spinning! ;D
Wow, thanks so much, I appreciate that!
Less computer games, less franchised sports, less Hollywood drivel, less advertisement's ! And more Arts and Crafts Please. The Celts were famous for their artistic output. What will our generations be remembered for ?
Don't worry. When AI takes all of the high paying white collar jobs all that will be left is tradecraft.
I can’t even imagine how upset you must have been when that broke. Especially since you were so close to being done, but I’m so glad you came back to it. It turned out beautiful!
The shattered pieces had a beauty of their own. The end product just goes to show…breathtaking. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Using the black resin with the olive wood was magical !!! It turned out so beautiful !! I only wish I could buy something as wonderful as this, but all I can do is tell you how great your creativity is!! I absolutely LOVE this, you are a true artist !!😍
Are you a Texas McDaniel by any chance? NJ McD. over here, by way of Texas (pappy).
Beautiful salvage. I would have been finished when it first broke. I absolutely love it.
I would call that one ; " Persistence De Elegance!" ❣️❣️❣️
From catastrophe to beauty, your rescue technique was brilliant! Another wonderful project from a master.
Thanks Dave!
With that many cracks and voids, I'd be scared to death to work on something like that. Braver man than I. Glad you were able to salvage and finish it. Looks amazing, as always.
Thanks! Yeah it was pretty dicey there for a while...
This is absolutely my favourite rescue story : such a beautiful piece of art, l can't stop staring at it!
Thanks so much!
Wowww, it almost looks like an ancient greek vase, spectacular!!!
"From the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success." A strikingly beautiful creation.
That is beyond words of how stunning this piece is. Firstly, olivewood is MY FAVOURITE wood to turn. I almost exploded when it exploded off the lathe. However, this a great example of how a turning mishap can turn into something magnificent. Thanks for sharing your journey on this olivewood piece. 😍😍😍
Thank you so much!
Truly remarkable work. It’s such a beautiful piece. Your vision of its destiny after the disaster is a reflection of your talent & experience. Congratulations on a piece worthy of a museum.
You love your work so much, you do it twice! Beautiful.
Beauty = taking risks, adapting to obstacles, using your imagination and persevering. A story, a life lesson and a piece of art. Lovely work.
You turned a disaster into a beautiful work of art! This is a lesson of: “Never give-up!” ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks William!
I can’t stop watching. It is so nostalgic, watched both dad and brother do beautiful work
You have great talent! Not to mention that your patience is far better than most everyone I know. You can make a beautiful masterpiece out of anything! Awesome job! I love it! Bravo!
Thank you!
Life has ups and downs. You have change a down to a wonderful highlight. My compliments.
Absolutely Gorgeous Piece David. The original turning was just beautiful. My heart sank when it blew apart. Love the fact that you didn't give up on it. The outcome of your final turning really pops. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thank you, Carl!
I absolutely love the different camera angles in this video!
Went from a fella enjoying a day in his shop. To a man on a mission! Mission completed. Very nice.
You got that right! Thanks for watching!
What can I say that others haven't? When a bowl explodes like that, who would think of trying to recover? Nobody. Nobody except David Adamsen, of course. What a great recovery David. You have enhanced my respect for your skills, perseverance and sheer "bloody mindedness"! Well done mate! Well turned! Re-watched on 04/09/2022 (UK). I've fallen in love with, the execution, the skill of the turner, the brilliance of the video production and the sheer artistry of the whole experience! My go to vid on a lazy Sunday afternoon with a glass of Croft Original Sherry. Well done David! 🙂
Thanks so much, Bryan! I appreciate that!
Impossible to say which version would have been more beautiful…but, this one is certainly outstanding. Great save. Very well done as usual.
Thank you so much!
@@DavidAdamsen bu kullanılan ne ağacı merak ettim bilgi verirsen teşekkür ederim 🇹🇷
@@DavidAdamsen bu işler için genelde hangi ağaç lar kullanılıyor
@@ylmazkorkmaz5947 this one is olive wood burl. But you can use all sorts of trees for turning.
@@DavidAdamsen teşekkürler dostum 👍🙋
Stunning! That had to be a very old Olive tree. That burl was big & wildly patterned. Kudos for finding solution to burl flying apart. It looked great in the end. Patience & perseverance pays off.
You are a true genius! You could call this a twice turned bowl! Fabulous, fabulous work!
Thanks Joe!
Wow, you really had to work for this one. Nice save. It came out beautiful.
Thanks Adam!
Such beauty. I love the addition of epoxy resin❣️you are a true craftsman. Thank you for sharing your art.
Beautiful work! Your ingenuity, dedication and infinite patience are impressive.
смотрела с замиранием сердца!Красиво,необычно,тонкая работа!
😄
I had to watch this video twice. I just couldn't believe how much work and patience went into this piece. This is truly one of the best artworks I have seen. Thank You so much for sharing.
Stunning! I am amazed at what you were able to do after the burl exploded. Truly, a work of art!
Beautifully done, absolutely stunning- -you must have the patience of a saint!!
I was holding my breath the entire time you were turning the bare olive burl. The explosion was expected but still saddened me. The phoenix that arose from the pieces is spectacular!
Thanks Dennis!
Ouch! That hurt when it fell apart… A troublesome project also when the screws broke on you… yet an absolute gorgeous piece of work. Again. Yes, the piece itself is nothing short of a beauty also your way of videoing it. Many thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Frank!
AS the saying goes: "Never let a good disastergo to waste" and you made the most out of it. Congratulations on a striking beautifully crafted master piece.
Before the project started it’s major splitting I thought it would have made a spectacular light fixture. The light shining through the various odd cut outs would be beautiful.
I was holding my breath watching you turn off the tenon. When I saw the count down come on, I gasped. I know it is isn’t how you intended to turn out, but is absolutely beautiful. You continue to amaze and inspire me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.
Thank you, Jason!
WOW...I think that is the most beautiful wood bowl I've ever seen! Absolutely stunning and a mesmerizing video to boot! 👏👏👏
Thank you Bob!
Turned out beautiful! The golden Hughes of the wood with the contrast of black gives it an elegant appearance.
I truly admire your respect for, and willingness to resurrect this beautiful, treacherous material.
Thought you were quitting after the piece broke love how you repaired it and continued on… you didn’t quit… fantastic piece of art
This piece is incredible, David! It was devastating to see it break, but I think the re-turn of the bowl actually enhanced its beauty--like Japanese kinsugi! This reminds me of Bilbo's poem with a little twist: "Renewed shall be bowl that was broken". Well done--a thousand times, well done!!!
Thank you so much! ❤️
what I love about crafts videos is that at any point the craftsman stops I think "man what a beautiful piece", and then I see the video still has 80% of its run time. I can never tell when they are done and am super surprised by the finished product
Glad you're not a quitter. What a gorgeously done masterpiece. Congratulations!!
The end result is a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for your hard work.
Is it microwave & dishwasher safe?
I’m 100 % sure it turned out much more beautiful with the resin, but then again I just don’t care too much for live edge. Beautiful save🤩
Absolutely stunning! The way you retrieved what looked like a loss is beyond remarkable and a lesson to all of us never to give up when things don't go according to plan...
I always get Nervous when you are about to Remove the piece!!! That’s a Stunning Bowl.
Good evening. Wow! I love everything about this video except the explosion. The reworked piece is very elegant. Perfect! Your mold for the pour was incredible.
Wow! Incredible recovery, David. I liked the bowl before it blew apart. But now, I like it even more. If it were me turning the bowl, the pieces would have ended up in file 13 or the fire wood pile. But you, took a bowl full of lemons and turned it into lemonade. You came up with a very ingenious way to save the turning. This is why I think you are becoming one of the best wood turners in KZhead. And believe me, there are many great wood turners on KZhead and you’re among the best.
Thank you so much John! I really appreciate that!
Bravo. Well done! "When at first you don't succeed …". A very beautiful piece of art. 👌
....Wow! Just wow! You are one highly skilled individual. The way you saved the piece after it broke.... then when finished you left no evidence it ever broke and can't tell it ever had..... WOW! Amazing work!
Outstanding save! Very glad that you were not hurt when it let go. My father made beautiful turnings as well. Some made it into museums and given as prestigious gifts to "VIP's". Beautiful work!
I was sad when the burl exploded because it was such a beautiful bowl, but the finished product is 10 TIMES MORE BEAUTIFUL!!! Stunning!
A sign of a true craftsman, never gives up. Absolutely gorgeous.
The 19 days of heartbreak turned into a healed heart ❤️ of creative ingenuity, well done!
I TRULY appreciate how you persevered in the face of adversity. This came out Magnificent and Stronger. The dark Smoky color contrast pairs well with the natural grain look. Excellent Workmanship.✨🌤️
As soon as that timer came up on screen near the 8 minute mark... my head was in my hands! Kudos to you brother, you saved the project and it looked amazing. 👏👏👏
Thanks David.
With such a horrifying explosion and destruction of the bowl, you are the master of recovery. Beautiful bowl and awesome video photography, you’ve turned out another masterpiece.
Thanks Tommy!
Even with resin I think it is absolutely beautiful.
Your work is a testament to life. If it breaks, pick up the pieces and turn it into something beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous!❤
Thank you so much! Giving up is never an option.
Incredible David. My heart sank when it came apart. I wouldn't have even got that far. LOL. I think the end result is just stunning mate. Amazing recovery. Take care David. Cheers, Huw
Thanks very much Huw!!
That is a fantastical piece of artwork! It is a beautiful bit of mastery. I don't ever remember being disappointed with a piece of your work.
Thank you!
I felt your frustration- but so glad you stuck with it.. resilience is a gift, like the wood, people can break, but we can come back together into something we never could have dreamed of - thanks for sharing this.
Wow, Dood! That is IMPRESSIVE! It is beautiful! Great job!
The absolute best salvage/repair project I've ever witnessed. Bravo!!
This is absolutely stunning!! It has so much beauty and character!
Thank you!
Not a disaster after all. Gorgeous 👩🏻🏫👏🏻🤩🥰‼️
Great work and recovery. Thanks for showing it all the way through..
Beautiful piece and beautiful save!
Thank you, Russell!
Not only highly skilled woodworking, but beautifully done camera work and music. Your piece is magnificent!
Pushing the boundaries! Glue the puzzle together!
Absolutely amazing and so beautiful. Proudness begins when the job is completed.
Mother Nature and Man work together. How Beautiful when this Happens. Just Stunning as a Team.
There is a reason you bounced back from your tree stand fall so well. Resiliency. Demonstrated in this project. I have seen some pretty fascinating repairs, before. This is now the best and biggest I've ever seen. Well done, David!
Thank you so much, Jay!
It’s amazing you can transform a chunk of wood to look like a porcelain bowl. Gorgeous.
Yes it’s worthy of going into an art gallery! ❤
Lemons to lemonade! Perserverance pays. Great job. 👍
Truly a tale of heartbreak and triumph. Never thought I would be crying bc of Woodturning videos but here we are. EXCELLENT WORK!
Thank you, Lexi!
Totally awesome. All turners have had that peice that blew apart or ran across the floor. I have saved those I had high hopes for myself but never like you did. I was thinking "Artifacts of a great woodturner" BUT the video was only half finished. You are a true artisan and teacher to us all.
Thank you, Darrell! Always trying to learn how to improve!
That one might be the most beautiful yet. I actually love the cracks 😍
Beautiful, love watching you turn this into a stunning piece. thank you.
I'm glad you saved it.
Thank you, Lance!
OMG.....Unbelievable transformation. What an absolutely beautiful bowl.
Stunning piece. Amazing how you salvaged the pieces to turn it into a gorgeous work of art.
That piece is absolutely gorgeous, I'm so happy you were able to bring it back. My heart sank when it exploded on the lathe. Awesome work. That is so beautiful
Beautiful piece, David. I'm glad you weren't injured when the explosion occurred. Even though you didn't want to use resin, I think it really added to the overall beauty. Just my opinion. Take care. Bill
Thanks Bill!
their is no end to what we will do to save an old piece of wood i must say you did an outstanding job this piece is superb
Thanks Dennis!
You resurrected the skeletal remains of that piece beautifully.
VIDEO OF THE YEAR.... NOW THIS IS THE TRUE MEANING OF NOT GIVING UP, NOT TO REGRET ANYTHING, NOT TO LOSE HOPE, NOT TO HATE YOUR HOBBY WHEN YOU FAIL, THE RESULT IS PURE SUCCESS. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
Great save !! And stuning as always thak you for inspiring and sharing .
Thanks Melvin!
After the storm, a masterpiece! Bravo.. truly piece of art.
Thank you!
It was beautiful before, but I actually like it better now! ♥️♥️♥️
This project contains a myriad of great life lessons. Thank you for sharing, and thanks for continuing in the face of failure to finish strong. Blessings and peace.
