From a time he couldn't afford a leather jacket^^
Whats a leather jacket?
POV: He afforded only one leather jacket that he wears every time he has the chance.

In 2008, he encouraged a lot of employees to buy stock options, and then stock crashed and everyone lost money. So he offered his employees to sell their stock options at the price they bought it. This year, they had no layoffs even though everyone is doing so.
Maybe they didn't hire people for no reason and are a responsible company. Alot of tech startups way over hired.
they're not laying off because demand for their chips are going through the roof while other tech companies are overdue for trimming fat, after seeing X running just fine with 1/5 of their original staff.

yes because he shared the real secret: being in the right place and having the right credentials.. if you didnt go to stanford and instead you are from the midwest, you can never start a startup.

@@jwjeieikwnwwn nope lol cause In future Chinese would not need Nvidia and will have their own version that means most of nvidia's market outside Europe & north America would be taken over by Chinese version of Nvidia. But yeah Nvidia can enjoy till then

how did nvidia almost triple in 2 years? the gpu market didnt change that much

Corny ahh phrases
Thanks. Very encouraging...
He is so smart and humorous.
I can see that he was quite arrogant.. but failure brought him down to Earth, and today, he is such a humble guy.
Incredible to see where he is now with nvidia
Brilliant engineer. He single-handedly put NVIDIA on the global map of high-performance computing/processing. Without NVIDIA computational chipsets, many areas of science, engineering and technology would not be here doing what they are able to do today.
No he didn't. His engineers did.
Without Nvidia actively sabotaging their entire competition in the late 90s early 2000s computing would be ahead by 5 years at the MINIMUM,they would just be somewhat less dominant and not even less sucessful necessarily.
What nvidia is doing with ai is incredible!!
Every business success is a result of teamwork among very smart people. But since he's the leader and public face of the company so it appears as he *single-handedly* did it but it's a collective achievement of all the people.
Proof that you don't have to force yourself to be an eccentric jerk to be a massive success.
great man,,,,nice watch too...A. Lange and Sohne Datograph!!!
This man is a legend!
Mr. Huang reinvented the computer with the invention of the GPU. Amazing story from an amazing man!
He didn't invent the GPU... Persuasion on the Mac uses a GPU
lel it was 3dfx who created the graphics accelerator
@@tHeWasTeDYouTh There were plenty of graphics accelerators before 3dfx. Plenty of 3D accelerators, even. 3dfx was only the first to successfully market one to gamers. Their first card was released in November 1996. The S3 ViRGE 3D was released in 1995, and I'm sure you can find even earlier examples.
He did not make gpu's. He just made the company that would make the best gpu's.
The High-Performance Graphics Display Controller 7220 (commonly μPD7220 or NEC 7220) Release date 1980 Nvidia NV1 from 1995 - expensive and crapy card that failed to give company any position on the market. NV2 was to be NVIDIA's second PC 3D accelerator graphics chip. - Cancelled before completion...

I know this makes me one of those guys, but.... here after Ampere drop and launch.
2021 here Aint looking too good...
He is certainly an every-man's guy...anyone can relate to this guy, he has a good persona for sure, and Nvidia..well, what can you say .....OK hell I'll say it...it's going to be one of those company's that will be at the forefront of mankind's diaspora into the cosmos...it's going to be there, in the background, running all kinds of mission critical systems from navigation to monitoring plasma confinement in fusion engines and predictive collision avoidance etc etc the applications are limitless....big things have small beginnings.....
I pray you bought Nvidia stock
@xahst simply no. Intel: too comfortable to do great things AMD: Not as good as Nvdia Qualcomm, TSMC, Samsung: focuses mostly on manufacturing Apple: Steve Jobs is dead. No need innovation ARM: designs great tech, but doesn't manufacture Nvidia: has Jensen Huang and his leather jacket along with the big eye meme. "Double the performance. Half the cost."
2:22 Back when this was filmed, those 20% of Nvidia were worth 2 billion dollars. As of today June 3 2023, they are worth 194.2 billion Sure, he got diluted, but still owns 3.6% of a trillion dollar company.
Watching this while nvidia hitting 2.2 t market cap, and still, with only 30k employees. History must remember what he did
He is such a great guy. Why he charge us 1300 bucks for a GPU T_T

Fun Fact: Nvidia used to make motherboard for Intel processors and it got so good Intel threatened Nvidia and removed the x86 mobo license. FAST FORWARD today....look how the tables have turned...GPU is so dominating in AI now INTEL will have to license IPs from Nvidia. Intel is behind IN EVERY SEGMENT: GPU (Nvidia/AMD) - Mobile (Apple M1/Arm/Qualcomm) - CPU/Desktop (AMD) - ane even Servers (AMD/Proprietary-in House design).
Fun fact: "Apple M1/ARM/Qualcomm" are all ARM. ARM doesn't make CPUs/SoCs. BTW you didn't mention gaming consoles, where it's also AMD (Xbox, PS) and ARM (Nintendo Switch). This is not a small market, either.
@@tomkocur you mean Nvidia for switch?
@@fluffyRabbit01 I didn't bother to search for who's the actual manufacturer, but when I saw it's ARM architecture, I knew it wasn't intel and that was my point. Thanks for addition though

Networking is important. “ they invest in great people”. He worked for a guy who went to school in Stanford. His saying comes opposite to what Peter Thiel said about starting in a less competitive market.
This just means that all their advice will work only in certain situations and there is no formula to success. Each of us have to carve out our own path
@@parthbarua6155 Honestly, I think most of tech ventures successes are concentrated to well connected persons.
80's people had it so easy when it comes to affording things. Now you have to invest 10k in a single ad to promote your product and get funding.
Are you sure? Do you remember how much a stupid home computer cost in the 80ies?

Investors frown at business doing computer hardware manufacturing, cause of too much capital and risk even now, they only want service based companies or SaaS, but this guy proved investors wrong, that you can become big by selling a pc component only 1% of pc user population needed(early 2000s)...

Welcome to capitalism.

moral of the story: you need Stanford certificate to start a tech company.

Deniz Tns u incorporate company making it separate entity and get stock shares as percentage of ownership He got 20% worth millions today
basically they valued the business off of that investment, him saying that he got 20% for 200 USD means at that time the company was valued at 1000usd
