I doubt that their parents know about these features and all these controversies. The worst part for me is that the app doesn't really allow users to go private or effectively block certain people

It was 2019, the number of regular videos was quite large compared to today, the videos were very similar to those on Tiktok at the time. In 2020 I dropped the app and migrated to Tiktok. At the time I didn't understand anything that had happened and thanks to my mother always talking to me so I wouldn't talk to strangers I didn't talk to that man, seeing this nowadays my innocence didn't let me be practically harassed online.

  • It’s one scummy thing to use the whole “this app is for 13+” as a way to get out of legal trouble, but it’s another level of sick to make a block function that doesn’t block anything. I’m convinced this app was made for predators to have easy access. It’s ridiculous to not be able to delete or private your account when that’s a basic widespread function on many if not all other apps. The only reason I can think of not having those functions is to enable harassment and such.

  • So I'm in my 20s, and I remember when the internet was becoming really widespread and commonplace in every household in my late childhood years/early teen years. Facebook was a big deal and everyone was starting to make new friends online, which had previously been unheard of, and overall it was a very exciting time. However, I also remember that there was seriously heavy emphasis on internet safety. Like we had entire days in primary school dedicated to lessons about staying safe on the internet, like not posting photos that have anything that shows your location (i.e. your school uniform or a recognizable landmark from your hometown), not giving out your password to anyone, not telling internet friends your real name or address, taking a grown up with you if you ever arranged to meet someone from the internet, not sending photos of yourself to people you don't know, taking screenshots if someone sent you something sketchy etc. This stuff was drilled into our heads with frequent lessons and pop quizzes on internet safety, and everyone took it really seriously. Obviously I haven't been to school in a while now, so I'm wondering: are those things still being taught to kids? Because seeing how much free roam kids have with the internet these days makes me wonder if that stuff is still being taught or if people are just assuming that everyone knows about internet safety and don't bother to hammer it into kids' heads like they did for my generation? On top of making apps that are actually safe, I feel like we should continue teaching internet safety in schools or at home, given how integrated the internet and our daily lives are nowadays, if they aren't already being carried out that is.

    • Agreed. I didn’t make an account online until I was 12 (it was a DeviantArt account), which is still early, but I never told anyone online my last name, age, or location apart from the United States, and I didn’t do a face reveal until I was 15, and, even then, it was on my _private_ Instagram account with less than 30 followers. The first time I’ve been open about my last name, age, and state (but still not city), and openly showed my face is on this KZhead channel, which I started at the age of 16, but I still didn’t do a face reveal until a while after turning 17. (I just checked; the first public video on my channel with my face in it is from August 2021, and I turned 18 last April.) So, with that in mind, I can’t even fathom children under 13 publicly displaying their face on the internet. Their parents should’ve taught them internet safety and stranger danger.

  • Being a 90's-00's child, I kind of grew up along with the internet. But even back in roughly '98-'99 this sort of thing was everywhere. My step sister and I would spend literal hours in chat rooms or IM on the weekends. Those rooms were filled with people declaring they're looking for cute boys/girls. I never thought twice about it at the time, but looking back you can see what was really happening. This is also one of the reasons why I'll never understand why some parents insist on giving their young children fully functional iPhones or iPads. There are plenty of alternatives that don't give your kid free reign over the internet.

Letting them know predators will be adults or way older ppl trying to interact with you which is always wrong. And letting them know predators lie with their threats and to immediately go to the adults who will take care of it. A lot of kids don’t realize it’s wrong AND don’t trust their parents to not punish them for not knowing it was wrong. For instance, I was the one punished as a 13 year old for sending someone nudes and grounded rather than consulted and taught and sympathized with.

I understand why my mom is so protective over us, and why she doesn’t want us using apps like that and roblox, because people like this exist. I’m scared that she will get hurt like how I did… Basically I was verbally abused, and manipulated by my cousin and he did it digitally, he managed to get money out of me, and he covered it up by saying ‘it’s just roleplay’ even though he knew I wasn’t doing mentally well and he knew all my triggers plus he made me relapse and now I’m back on meds and therapy and I’m still hurt because of him. he had a lot of access to try to attack me, like roblox, tiktok, etc. so my mom deleted those apps and I got my phone took away fro awhile, and now I understand her actions. But finding out what goes on in the app makes me so sick to my stomach that I’m currently feeling like I’m going to throw up. I have two little cousins who are under the age of 13 and I’m going to warn their mothers about the app ASAP. I’m also going to send a link to the video as well. Like, I was born in '99 and was taught VEHEMENTLY growing up to not talk to strangers or join apps without my parents' permission, to where it's just sort of second nature to me by now. Even at 22, I think twice about talking to people online or getting accounts on websites. So when I hear stories of children talking to strangers or sending photos online, I think, "Don't they know not to do this?" It can be hard to remember that kids are naturally very trusting of people, especially adults, and don't know about the dangers of the world. I'm not trying to excuse these parents or anything but it's just an observation I've seen in myself that may explain the thought processes of others. My first social media account I created was around 12 to 15 years old (I had friends that had it before me and I couldn't text them easily with my phone) and my mom created an account to watch what I was posting or to share her own things. I wasn't and I'm still not the type of person to take selfie a lot and I've been told to not post pictures of me online and I wouldn't have done that at all. I guess that it depends on how you teach your kid on the dangers of the internet. I would totally agree on the fact that kids under 13 shouldn't have cellphone and no social media until 15 years old. I created my facebook account around 15 years old. You just won't be able to control everything on the internet and the only way to help kids or teens is to teach them how to be safe online. Though, having an eye on what your kid is doing online would be required. I sometimes think that flip phones should still exist as a phone for kids if they have an emergency or have problems on their way home. You can't go online with a flip nor downloading apps (if it has game, it'd be snake).

So it's just mind blowing that all these parents are allowing their kids who are even younger to have an account on these websites. Like I said of course the predators are at fault, but they're always going to exist so it's just baffling to me that parents do basically nothing preemptive for this kind of stuff. I mean I'm an adult and I still don't like to give my name or age or real photos of myself JUST IN CASE, because of how much that was hammered into me as a kid to not share private info on the internet because there are creeps out there. Thankfully nothing severely traumatic happened to me but my friends have horror stories surrounding the internet as a kid. Now my parents monitor my kid siblings stuff way more because of how they’ve heard about it on the news and in media. Parents these days who have this happen to their kids (over and over, not like a one off experience they barely missed bc they only check weekly and not daily) know there’s dangers but just diminish the severity in their heads, which is wrong, so they can be neglectful with “justification” in their eyes.

My best friend introduved me to the app, i wasnt aware that bad things could happen to me. me and her were stupid children. 2 years later, trusting her saying, "its a safe app" was my biggest regret in life. NOTHING couldve prepared me for every single one of those people on the app, the people i thought i could trust told me they always hated me. I regret installing the app. If i could go back into time and stop myself from installing this horrible app, i would. so if you ever do install it, be aware.

  • Coming from someone who’s a minor, It’s heartbreaking to see children as young as even 5 being treated like this. They’re just children and are told to obey everyone if they’re older so unless they’re taught about things like that, which many kids aren’t since they’re “too young too know” about that stuff, they feel like they **have** to send the photos. It’s just disgusting, horrible, and sickening. I feel so bad for the poor kids.

  • "We deleted the app off my little sister's ipad" Okay, like... this is part of the issue. Little kids do NOT need THEIR OWN ipads. They can use an ipad, iphone, whatever during designated hours of the day, but it's mom or dad's device. I know when older people complain about stuff it's like "get with the times, old man!" but everyone survived their childhoods not having their own tablets and phones. Stop letting your literal children have their own devices. And stop allowing them to post online.

    @FrenkTheJoy@FrenkTheJoy Жыл бұрын
    • And what's more is that having access to all this technology early on does not make the kids "technologically literate", there are a lot of teens/young adults who grew up using social media and the internet who do not know how any of this works, who have never ventured to the "security" or "confidentiality" pages of any apps they use, who do not understand how their personal data is being exploited and how, who do not know what an IP adress is etc...

    • Finally, someone addressing this. Children don't need their own devices, and I'm tired of people not acknowledging that at the end of the day, giving a child unrequited internet access is the root of the problem. You don't have to worry about your young child being exploited online if they don't have internet access in the first place.

  • One of the big problems is that if a child wants to get on the platform, they will do it anyway. They will bluff their age just like people have always done to access parts of the internet that are supposed to be restricted to adults. The biggest guard against this is to make sure you are aware of what your child has on their phone or other devices.

Thankfully this happened before apps like this ever existed, so I've (hopefully) not got pics/vids floating out there on the web. My heart breaks for the children who have been forced to send such disgusting things to these monsters, and will probably have that stuff out there for the rest of their lives. When I was young and going through my abuse, I was kind of in an ignorant bubble where I thought it was a rare thing happening to me but as I get older, I'm consistently horrified with just how common this really is. • My best friend had Likee a few years ago and would make comedy videos. She sometimes would show her face when we would do videos together. We would do things like most likely to videos. The amount of disgusting men that commented about our bodies on these videos were insane. She was 9 and I was 8. She would get dms from “kids” that claimed to be “our age.” A guy who claimed he was 14 or 15 at the time asked A 9 YEAR OLD LITTLE GIRL to be his GIRLFRIEND. After she replied with, “No thank you I’m not interested,” he proceeded to send her numerous photos of his you know what. She told me instantly and I told her delete the app right then and there. Although we were young we both knew this man was disgusting and this wasn’t okay. This man was obviously not the age he claimed to be and we both knew that. Before deleting the app, she reported the man’s account. She had gotten the app another time after that. She was 11 and I was 10. This time it was even worse. There was more creepy men than ever. She instantly deleted it after all of these disgusting comments were made about her body. Men were asking for her address, explicit photos of her body, sending her explicit photos of themselves, and asking to meet up. We have ever since been traumatized. Never go near this app and never let young loved ones near this app. Stay safe out there the world is a disgusting place.

I only used my pc to play games and watch youtube videos like gameplays or cool animations from people however my mom always checked my historial and warned me that if I use social medias like fb, insta or those apps where you talk with strangers I wont have the pc back until I get to 16, I used to hate her for that. At my school there was a lot of people with phones (they had social medias, and they told me their mom didn't really cared about it which is concerning) and I thought why can't I have one too then? I didn't got one anyways and kept the pc. I got my first phone around 2020. It’s disgusting seeing parents really enable their kids and make them accounts when they’re clearly too young for social media. In some cases I even see parents dressing up their kids to look older and stuff like that.

    • Exactly! So many of my friends grandchildren have Facebook accounts and keep asking me why I don't accept their friend requests. I always reply that my Facebook page is an adult 420/alcohol/curse word friendly space that's not appropriate for anyone under the age of 21🤷🏾

    • I don't think a facebook account is bad for a kid. It can be used for messaging family and friends at school which is what I do until now.

    • @@LisztApologist Yes, but it can also be misused by the kid very easily. I think there are better alternatives to facebook, and not to mention the sheer amount of personal data facebook collects about you.

  • Commenting for engagement, people NEED to see this video especially parents, as someone who has experienced online harassment from older people as a minor on apps like twitter or even Snapchat parents NEED to know about these types of things, if you want to do research on things like this there are…certain forums on the internet that are completely unmoderated and the stuff I saw as a kid really scars me to this day, please keep making more content like this so parents can be aware of the things their children experience on the internet, love your content, keep up the good work ☺️

  • I remember having this app when I was like 10, tiktok was still called musically, a girl send me a picture of her in her underwear and tried to convince me to send one too, because it was 'funny' according to her. She looked to be about 16-20. I luckily knew not to send pictures and told my parents. I didn't realize how weird this was until I just thought back to it 😬

    • It’s a good thing you did that because it could’ve been a pedo who just took an image off of google and said it was them. I sure you didn’t know how to reverse image search at age 10 either. So good on you for not replying back with a “funny” picture.

    • have you ever thought of the possibility that someone else other than a female may have been behind that account? Such as someone collecting pictures of other women by creating similar situations and using it as disguise.

  • The "new app"? I remember hearing about this like 2 years ago. I remember an app with a heart logo and the name "like" that looked like tiktok. Only problem is the heart wasn't rainbow but orange-yellow

  • I have a personal experience with this app. Me and my friend downloaded it a while back; few months; too find out more of bepop and Bebe. Me and him (who’s name is Aiden) decided to do a stream on his old account that’s name was something along the names of “coco deer” Makes you think that whoever made the account is most likely 5-9, right? We went on live. Our voices are very high pitched and we are very young minors. (At the time we were in elementary.) Anyways. We moved onto the live. I was at his house when we were streaming and we showed our hands in the video too show there was a human behind the stream. Then, there was an old man on the stream. My friend was the one talking in the stream because I was watching a musical and was too busy watching it too talk. Then the old man said “can I see your friends thighs?” I was very young at the time and didn’t really take that as a horrible thing and since I was really confident I went ahead and said “sure!“ And showed my legs. Etc. I’ll never forget that. Edit: he, talking about Aiden, made a video before what happened too me, so mind he was very very young, he showed his body in his video since his dad let him show everything except for his face. Someone talked too him later on after seeing the video complimenting him and saying ‘you have a nice body.’ That was some creepy stuff.

  • Thank you for this! My sister is 11 and she’s always trying to find new copy-cat TikTok apps, and I’ve heard her talk about this one a few times. I don’t think she has it but I will make sure.
