It's an early Z28 probably built in late 1968, judging by the narrow factory spoiler. The early 69's used leftover 1968 spoilers which were narrower. I knew it came with a flat hood because the Zl2 Special Ducted hood wasn't an option till later in 69. I worker as a 16 year old porter in a Chevy dealership. I remember most of the Z28s we got came with a flat hood and the standard 711 interior. One time a customer checked all the right boxes, and his car arrived with an M22, and a 4.56 rear end. It was Fathom green with the 713 code black houndstooth interior. The z28 in this video is as nice as you will ever see one!
Didn't all rally sports come with deluxe interior?

Kenny Marks, I noticed the lack of custom door panels, and seat covers too. The wood paneling says that this car has the "Deluxe" interior. I don't understand why it has part of the interior that came with the Rally Sport option, but is missing the rest. I did notice the 68' spoiler on the car as well.
@@davidgraham2673 This particular Z came with RPO D55, console - which adds wood grain to the dash panel. Note that the passenger glove box does not have wood trim - this only came with RPO Z87, Deluxe Interior.
@@kennymarks2283 Rally Sport was an exterior trim package (RPO Z22) while the Deluxe Interior package is RPO Z23. You could order either independently of each other. My '69 Z28 happens to have both options - and its also Cortez Silver.
The 69 Z28 is my favorite Camaro. I love the body style and old Detroit Iron.
Narrow rear spoiler, early production, so yes it’s not supposed to have a cowl hood. The knob on the seat is supposed to be chrome not black. Gorgeous car. Worth every penny.
He states in the video the cowl hood was added in the early '70's and decided to leave it on (real GM hood). The cowl seal is upside down and inside out though...easy fix.

If he wants that kind of money then he better part with the car soon..these last couple generations care nothing about these cars..only technology..the ball is going to drop on them and soon and were going to see 1970s prices once again..Its already happened on alot of the pricier 1950s cars...those people are dying off and not many after them have any interest!

eh.. although his video are good he's honestly pretty corny, whether it's whoever writes his episodes or maybe it's just his "humor" idk. in my opinion we need more "beyond the details" videos
My old painter got one of these new when he turned 16. Then through the 70s and 80s he got into the Pro Street movement and cut it apart for massive tubs, swapped the DZ302 for a 6/71 blown BBC. Since he's a painter and it was built in period the paint job is very........period correct to put it nicely. I never knew it was an original DZ Z28 RS/SS that he cut up and tossed the motor from. I was sick to my stomach.
Back in 1974 one of my high school classmates saved all his money for two years and bought one of those, same color and everything. Mike never drove it to school because it was in almost as good a condition as that one but I did get to see it when we had our senior class picnic. I always loved that color combination of the silver with the black stripes. When I ordered a new Camaro in 1975 I almost got it in silver but because GM dropped the Z28 for 1975 completely I went with medium sandstone instead.
I had a 1968 camaro convertible. My father pulled the blown 307 and replaced it with a 283. I drove from NY to LA and drove it until 1981 when I sold it for a whopping $600.00 with a smashed rear quarter panel. Boy, I wish I had it now.
Mine was a '69 hardtop, low option 6 cylinder car, light yellow, a running and driving car that I sold in 1987 for the princely sum of $500. Makes me a little sick thinking about it now.

What a great car! Beautiful, way back my dad purchased a 1969 SS Camaro for me same color combination (repainted) with black stripes and cowl hood brings back lots of memories for me, I wish I still had the car but more I wish I still had my father. Love these videos! Thanks
I bought my buddies 1970 and a half Z/28 in 1983 after I graduated from high school for $3,000. He bought it from his brother who bought it new and put Centerline wheels on it. Motor was balanced and blueprinted and had ported heads. I sold the car in 1984 right before I got married for $3,500. I miss that car everyday.
Did it have the stock rear end gearing? I've always felt that for instance if you put a 4:10 with the 4 speed the thing could dip into the 13's.

When I was A teenager, my neighbors son bought a 69 DZ Camaro, (circa 1980). Unfortunately the kid didn’t know which end of the screwdriver to use and the car sat in the driveway after an unsuccessful clutch replacement for at least a year. This car was the same color with the same stripes not an RS but a cross ram car with four wheel disc brakes. I begged my dad for six months to buy this car. To my father who just recently passed, a vehicle was just something that you drove. Later in life I got to do the I told you so to my dad. I miss you so much Pops!

Only 3-6k of these were ever made, but I've seen about 12,000 of them at car shows and elsewhere.
1969 Production was 20,302 Z's. But yes, there are lot of clones out there!
1974......on the walk to the bus stop, sophmore year. FOR SALE: A Blue 69 Z28 AND a 1970 Green AAR Cuda......each for the Outrageous sum of $2000. I believe my memory is correct....but Holy Cow! Where did the years go???
I worked with a back in 1982 who owned a 1968 Z28 camaro . He had pulled the original 302 cid engine and had it hat the machine shop in Oregon illinois. He said he could afford to get the engine out of the machine shop. So he found a 396 big block engine to put in it .we put it in with a big tree limb and chain overhead. He didn't want to buy new engine brackets so he just weld the engine mounts to the frame . He put a turbo 400 transmission behind it. He got a lighting rod shifter for it . Then wanted to put the 4spd console back in. But it wouldn't fit So he wanted to cut the console in half to make it fit. I told him he was a fool to do that . He ordered new headers for it at the local part store for it . When we went to get them he said he didn't have the money to get them and ask to barrow the money to get them. I'd did but never got paid back . He lost the car to his roommate for back rent . The car was sliver. I would have loved to have bought that car .the machine shop in Oregon illinois. Built engines for some Nascar team not sure what happened to the 302 engine. The builder moved to Florida and started a shop down there . Dave Kopp from MO was the guy. You owe me Dave 🧐😡🤬💩😡🤬💩😡😡🤬💩
This owner was refreshing to see. So many folks are delusional about their car's value, so it was nice to see someone so down to earth on the matter. You're emotions or attachment to a car have zero to do with actual value. Market dictates value. Period.
Emotion reduces supply. Because owners hold on to their cars.

My buddy in high school in 1977 had two original Z/28s one just like this one and a green one with white strips. Scott if your out there buddy and read this I hope you kept at least one of them.

I owned a 1961 Corvette in my last year of college at SDSU. Was low on money so I sold it to a Used Car Dealer for $500.00 in late 1972....Such is Life.
I think I'd be sourcing a knob, for the seat adjust lever.
You can buy every single part for this car. I don't have a Z-28 I have a SS. The option code for a Super Sport is Z-27. Really.
@@JohnReall Ah, ok! I didn't know there was a Z-27 code, that's pretty cool to know! I don't own a Camaro (of any year), I did own a 2004 Malibu, it was a good car. I just own 3 Jeeps, a Focus and a couple of pickup trucks now. They keep me busy.

My neighbor has one of these in hugger orange . all original never restored with one repaint. he is 2nd owner. I remember them in the Chevy dealer showroom. good memories.
I remember when those 302 Camaros were still seen around even in small towns of Wyoming. Not that level, but really nice. I have not seen one in decades, most have been "upgraded" to LS motors or something else. If you even see them.
Every ORIGINAL RS/Z 28 I have seen in my 45 years in the auto industry had an Enduro front bumper. Those bumpers are not available anymore! Really needs the front bumper painted to match the car to make as close to OG as you can.

There is no modern equivalent to the 1969 Camaro Z/28. I'm an older guy and I wanted something close to this in size and power and weight. It will sound crazy, but I bought what I thought was something close in spirit. So in 2018 I purchased a BMW M2. It's small, has similar power and has racing credentials. It's the best I could do. I rarely see 1969 Camaro's on the street but when I do, I tip my hat.
Just a little note, the 1969 302 had 4 bolt mains, earlier 67/68 had 2 bolt mains.
I was working at a Chevrolet dealership in 1969. New Z28 Camaro's were selling as low as $3300. We also received two COPO cars that year, a Chevelle and a Camaro. I remember the Camaro sold for $4450. We should have bought a few and stored them somewhere. Who knew?
Stop lift kit was a recall thing. It kept the engine from jumping out of the car. The engine mounts were prone to fail.
The missing knob for the seat adjustment is chrome. The window cranks seem to have the clear knob, which i believe was for the deluxe interior
I had a 1970 Corvette 350/300hp 4 speed Cortez Silver and a 1970 Chevelle ss 396/402 ci auto silver. Sold the Corvette in 1985 for 5,000 and sold the Chevelle in 1975 for 1,500 thinking I was doing good getting my money back. The car wasn't junk it was no rust and beautiful . These were the car prices back then. I miss the Chevelle to this day !!
I took auto body repair for three hours a day when I was a senior in highschool in 87-88. One of the students had this car and got challenged by another student who had a Mustang GT to see who could hold the accelerator on the floor the longest. The Camaro roared like a beast but was smooth like it was built to be. The Mustang got nowhere near the RPM range the Camaro did and was making violent popping noises, valves floating, and blew one of the converters up. A week later it needed an engine. Damn the 80s were awesome. How many kids had a Daytona and a Superbird in highschool at any other point in time or DZ equipped Z-28s with the SS/RS package?
That was a great story. Brings back great memories.

What a beautiful car ,my brother had a Z28 back then, I remember him saying the transmission case kept cracking.... he probably should have kept it.😭
My 69 Z was built with the rare Muncie M22 according to the factory invoice I have. Sadly it’s not the original trans although I did install a fresh M22. Someone swapped out the original for a Borg Warner with a low 1st gear for drag racing. Theres nothing quite like the sweet whine of the “Rock Crusher”.
Knew a guy in high school who had a car like this and beat the scrap out of it. By graduation day, it was rusty and dragging the mufflers on the ground. Such a shame.

I had a 1969 Z28 Rally Sport. Unfortunately it turned out that it didn't have the original 302 in it. (I was just a dumb kid back then.) But it was still a very fun car, I loved it.
I saw a 1969 Camaro ZL1 at the Mecum auction back on October.
Even though I’ve owned my 1 owner 70 Z/28 4 speed since 1981, I would love to have a 69 RS Z/28.
1 owner? Don't you own it? Since 1981? That makes it a 2 owner car. NOT 1 OWNER.
I bought the almost exact same car brand new, the difference is mine had a black vinyl roof, this one looks like a new car. I got rid of the air emissions the first week i owned it, my Dad thought i was nuts!

my neighbor has a 69 RS SS 396 with 4 wheel disc brakes, auto, AC, endura. It was originally titled to GM Special Operations as a show car. It needs everything including quarters, trunk pan, paint, etc. Is it worth fixing?
A prime example of a museum piece. Sad it hasn't a life on the road anymore. Surely it was driven into the shop from a trailer round the corner. Great car though. Cheers 🇨🇦
my dad had a special order 69 Camaro RS.. bought new off the showroom floor, sadly it was stolen a year and a half after he bought it. Police in Romulus sent him a ticket a few month later.. they found the frame with the license plate wired to it on a road by Detroit Metro Airport. Guess the thieves didn't know to keep the car whole.
What a magnificent car. I have to say, I'm surprised the hood not being original had such little impact on value.
I have one as well with better options window sticker bill of sale to go with it. Has rubber bumpers fold down rear seat. Sitting beside a 396 pace car with same documentation. Good looking car
Only disappointment here is that there wasn’t a second car. This and Cammisa are the best haggerty has.

My step dad bought a z28 rs just like this one, but in white, brand new after getting out of the service. About 20 years ago the third owner contacted him, offeri g to sell it to him for $10k. If I recall correctly, it had around 30k original miles. Unrestored! Good- fair condition, no rust. I think he'd have a great attack if he heard what they're going for now.

yea, never understood that. Guys will spend all kinds of money on stuff for a car to get them perfect, but than "go cheap" when it comes to a battery that looks authentic.

I once acquired one like that, minus the drive train, that was left at a rental property the people skipped out on. I tried a Mechanics Lien and the application was returned saying, "This VIN shows as stolen vehicle, please verify the numbers and resubmit." I didn't bother with that. Then someone broke into the yard and ripped off the interior. A short time later someone stole the rest of the car from our shop yard. Oh well, it was nice to look at anyway.

Not being a purist, this car represents everything I don't want in a car, and I mean that literally. Anyone that drives their car on a regular basis knows that gut wrenching feeling of finding ever newer rock chips, scratches that can't be explained, and a minor ding that suddenly appears out of nowhere. A car like this can't be enjoyed other than sitting in a garage for fear the birds will attack it, and who wants to be constantly chasing imperfections that a guy like in this video will tear apart.

Oh...that's a nice car. Love that color. I would prefer a 396 instead from that era, an Indy pace car convertible, even though they're all white. Tops would be a 427 Baldwin Motion, but those were all hardtops I think.
Pre-1970 American cars were gorgeous. Only within the last ten years have they really started getting their mojo back, inside and out.
I luv my 67 skylark GS 400- 4 speed convertible but ive already told her id include her in a trade for a 69 z28 rs camaro.
My dad has a 69 z28 rs he purchased back in 77 he's the second owner and it's black and silver with the 302 motor....
Only have to go on the appraises word. Even on KZhead some of that paperwork look like it was photocopied.
I’m NOT a GM fan. But, this is as fine of a GT/Can-Am/Trans-Am specimen that I have EVER witnessed. Although it is NOT a BOSS 302, it is a fine machine with an excellent pedigree. Nice, nice, NICE!! 👍🏻

69 Z28 had a 302 cu in rated at 290 horse power. But the real horse power was 400 hp
302 Chevy, 305 Chevy and 307 Olds.
Close, they dyno around 350-370hp

Correct if I'm wrong but I believe the rear spoiler belongs to a '67, '68 Camaro. Overall its a beautiful car.
When looking at the options in the picture on this video, I did not see D80 option for any spoilers from the factory. As always I could be mistaken.

Yep. We used to pick up “old” muscle cars like this in the 70s for around 500 bucks, which is about what they’re worth today. But not this one. It’s SPECIAL and worth at least 525 bucks. So sick of these over prices antiquated pieces of garbage.

Correct, it comes straight from Amazonian Faux trees before the embargos in Cuba devastated the market.
