  • It's nice to see the old stomping grounds, and the extra room will be a help with your work, I'm sure. All the wood grains in this video were so beautiful. Can't wait to see the walnut finished.

I absolutely love the cutting up and forming cause you experience the whole process. It also shows just how much work it takes to get a beautiful bowl/plate etc. You give so much information and examples of what you're talking about that it's easy to follow even when you're not a turner yourself. Please don't cut this type of video for it is so eye opening and informative. Thanks for sharing your journey. Take care. Much ❤

Reminds me of the purple heart wood offcuts in the vase you did recently, I continue to dream about a purple heart wood piece done with different purple resins... I am thrilled about your news Jim, I am very excited for you getting a bigger better workshop! I DO have a few bowls & boards that were gifted to me & I appreciate them even more now (I truly appreciated them to begin with). Some of those bowls are going to be gorgeous when finished! When the time came I let her make the decision kids and grandkids were here so she wanted to stay. I'm glad she decided that way now, she died 3 years ago and my kids and brothers all all within an hour or two drive.Good luck with the move and new shop.

The "wood juice" made me laugh, but it is plenty true, if you have ever watched the Hydraulic Press Channel when they have crushed green wood the amount of water that comes out is amazing.

For some reason I think your more excited about its build. Don’t worry, we understand, we won’t tell “The Wife”. I think the Hawaii Spalted Maple is going to make something special. I hope it dries well, can’t wait to see what you make using it. Curious, some of those extra pieces you had left over could be really desirable to knife makers. Properly stabilized and died, you could make a good profit from them. Designer Epoxy

  • Designer Epoxy Jim, really nice video - very informative. I like that you included some real-time turning since, while I understand the reason for speeding them up, seeing the video in fast-mode it is hard to grasp just how long it really takes to rough out a bowl. Since I live in Florida, it really doesn't help to cut tree in the winter since it never gets cold enough to change the sap flow all that much. The same thing about drying them - our summers are not only hot, but they are also long. Of course, one advantage is that what may take a year or two for you to dry wood only takes about 6 months for us. Hope all goes well with the new shop and house and that you have a smooth move. I would consider the heat-pump mini-split for heat and cool over propane. Many of the newer ones can produce sufficient heat even in very cold weather.

    @qapla@qapla11 ай бұрын
    • Yes, I will probably go with a heat pump. I’m told by the builder that a mini split can’t take the dusty conditions. A fast way for you to remove the moisture from the tree is to leave the branches and leaves on and allow the leaves to pull the moisture from the tree, then process it from there. Thanks for watching

      @SpragueWoodturning@SpragueWoodturning11 ай бұрын
    • @@SpragueWoodturning I have a mini-split in my shop. I know it is extra work but, if you design and build a "box" to cover all the mini-split except for the vent that blows the air into the shop, you can make it so you can use conventional filters - the mini-splits are usually much more efficient than central type units and more than window or through-the-wall units ... and, they are very quiet!
