  • Looking good, I am working on an old large oak tree myself trying to get it all rough turned one piece at a time.

    • It's a bit tiring to turn such large bowls! Be safe and let the shavings fly!

  • What were the final dimensions and did you seal it before wrapping it up? I've been sealing my blanks with Elmer's school glue and it seams to work good so far. Too bad you couldn't core it. Keep up the good work and sweat the safety police 😉

    • I am waiting for the bowl to dry out. So no final dimensions yet. Using Elmer's glue to seal up and let it dry more slowly is something I am going to try! Thanks for the comment.

  • Good start. Hopefully it doesnt crack too much. Oak is notorious for crackin because of the tight grain. About 1/2 of mine split beyond repair no matter what i do

    • I really hope it doesn't crack. I collected a k-truck load and turned a handful of large bowls. I also made some of it into boards to be used for other projects.

  • Suggestion: Use tailstock support whenever possible, even with a faceplate. --Old guy

    • Yeah you are correct it is better to use tailstock as often as possible! Thank you for your suggestion.
