BLTV Classic recaps the night Mike Tyson defended his heavyweight crown against his old friend Frank Bruno the hard-hitting bodybuilder
Mike Tyson has lived long enough to see himself go from hero, to villain and back to hero again. His life does in fact deserve a movie.
He's had like two movies at least
… he’s already had a movie
@@vivlaw1977 Maybe someone like Idris Elba? He'd at least be able to portray his intimidating bull-type physicality somewhat? Though Alba is way too old now to play Tyson in his peak.
@@DCP-200😂😂😂
@@b.elzebub9252 Nah, Idris is 6'2".
Bruno was such a good dude, when he wobbled Tyson I was sat home as a kid losing my mind. He did way better than folks expected.
They had it on live in a theatre in Liverpool, when he wobbled Tyson, the theatre were on their feet screaming. Not experienced an adrenalin rush like it, ever.
Yep watched it live at a snooker club in Bedford... that punch sent the place wild, think we really thought it could happen... and Frank Carpenter shouting "come on frank".
Tysons instinctive response was a hook that just missed even as he wobbled. If that had connected it would have decapitated Bruno. That's the difference between them right there!
You can tell the way mister Tyson looks when he walks to the ring that he has already won. It's in his eyes.
He caught him with a lucky shot, only lasted 4 rounds. Doesn’t matter that he’s a “good dude”
Now that was a brilliant stoppage. One of the best ever. He saw the punch he needed to see to know he didn't need to see anymore.
Excellent comment. The uppercut right before was brutal as well.
For sure. I always think refs should go for caution, even if the crowd and fans hate them for it. They have to be the one protect the fighters. It always makes me cringe when refs in boxing and MMA just let a fighter get pummeled and beat nearly to death without a stoppage knowing they are probably suffering some pretty severe unnecessary brain damage.
@@eggoslayer1001 mma has gotten better with that. Sometimes a little too cautious where it doesn’t make sense to stop it
Agreed. When Bruno didn't even counterpunch or evade Tyson's slower, more powerful punches he knew it was over.
@@tonyg5132 For sure, MMA has been better about stoppages compared to Boxing by a lot. Boxing you just regularly see dudes brain cells vanishing and no stoppage. Letting guys just get tee'd off on with no defense or getting up way too many times from knockdowns. Seeing some of my favorite boxers just stumble through sentences after they retire has made me really look differently at those situations. They will of course make some mistakes and stop too early, but again, I'd much rather that happen than a fight go too far and fighter's suffer needlessly.
I've never heard of Bruno before, but watching him tank those hits and remain standing tells me he's an absolute beast.
Bruno has the best laugh ever. You know what I mean Harry? Huh huh huh huh huh!
Youve never heard of bruno ?? 😂😂😂
Hes a national treasure
What? Never heard of Frank Bruno? 😂 You must be very young, big Frank is the most famous British heavyweight ever. Not the greatest chin, nor boxing skills, but he had devastating 1 punch KO power, more than Joshua and was WBC champ in mid 90s before Tyson beat him for 2nd time.
Tyson was the true beast.
At 1:00 when Tyson said he was punching like a mule kick he was actually talking about Razor Ruddock.
Yup
Lol
Yep, I noticed that too
Facts
Exactly. He was talking about razor Rudick. Razor Redick gave him a tough fight
It's a great day when BLTV uploads!

Frank and Mike had a great deal of mutual respect. Frank wasn't the greatest of boxers but he will always be one of my favourites
This was the first fight without Kevin Rooney in the corner and you could tell by the end of the first round. Kevin even himself said Bruno should have finished it in the first.
I love Tyson but man knowing how he was with Rooney in his corner to see him basically a brawler without him is a tragedy. Like he gave up the peek a boo style the head movements everything left .
Agreed. Definitely not his old self 👍
@@newgenerationtechnology2930 People say that, But Mike had some of his weakest performances under Kevin Rooney!! Look at his 1986 fight with journeyman James Tillis (a guy with over 20 losses) Mike struggled for 10 rounds and even lost 4 out of those 10 rounds on the judges score cards, many fan believe Tillis actually won the fight!! in 1987 he (Mike) looked poor against James Smith (one of the weakest champs ever with a 19-8 record at the time) Mike just get rushing in and getting caught in clinches, couldn't even drop smith over 12 rounds and even got badly hurt by smith in the last round. He looked bad against tony tubbs to, just swinging wildly looking for one big punch, actually got outboxed by Tubbs until landing a big left hook. Rooneys influence on Mike is very overrated.
Mike's movement is what separated him from his opponents aside from the incredible defence, power, refuse to lose mentality etc. His movement amplified all his other attributes. Once this disappeared he was no longer that truly superior fighter to other men. Am a lifelong Tyson fan and this was a heartbreaking and career changing moment.
Rooney just wanted the credit
Punches “like a mule kick” was not Frank Bruno, rather Razor Ruddock from what I recall.
Frank was strong, but had no stamina.
Scumbag editing by a jackass thinking he's big media.
So you know more than the man who fought him? Make that make sense
People forget Mike was just 22 when he fought Frank the first time. Just 5 years earlier he was a nobody kid in upstate NY. Now, he can’t go anywhere without the searing press watching and scrutinizing his every move. The centering force of Cus and his team (Jim Jacobs, Rooney, Cayton) were dead (Jacobs, ‘88) or fired. He was no longer the same fighter.
They can forget all they want; just like how everybody is eventually gonna forget THEM... But those of us who WERE THERE back then and still remember it like it was yesterday, are NOT gonna forget it anytime soon!
Mike just couldn't cope with the super strict regimen anymore especially considering how quickly he got guys out of there
More please.
fr, these are some of my favorite videos on youtube
We love Mike Tyson. He has the spirit of America. Speak softly but carries a big stick.
Rapist
How did Bruno stay on his feet? Those shots he took were brutal. Thanks for the upload. Great video as always.
Unreal. Stayed on his feet and walked away too.
Bruno always had a good chin I've never understood people saying he was chinny. All I can think is they watched 2 fights, Tyson and Lewis and made that assumption. Both Tyson and Lewis are two of the hardest punchers and greatest we've ever had. His other 2 loses were late round stoppages when he was younger, greener and run out of steam late and both were World champion in Witherspoon and Bonecrusher Smith. Both solid fighters too.
Cause he was against the ropes. That uppercut would have put him down. It was Tysons specialty combo that I loved. Shot to the body to get the guy to lower his guard then the viscous uppercut
Having a "good chin" is one thing, but Bruno was getting rocked there. I wouldn't say he was out on his feet, but I'd argue that there was plenty of damage being done inside his dome.
Hence I the claim that George Foreman would be a devastating opponent for Tyson who not only could take those punches but also was the hardest hitter of the two.
Those punches were brutal. Tyson does not get enough credit on how much leverage he gets with his punches and his weight distribution. That is literally 200lbs of force in every punch. Scary stuff. Frank was tough as nails.
Nah Tyson gets too much credit for that
*220lbs
@@theblackmamba8686 hell no ..he gets his due credit.
that's a lot more than 220 pounds of force. I think you need to retake your physics class
yea they could have said he was the lightest fighter in the ring but all that weight was in each punch so when everyone had that wall ready to take on sledgehammers he was coming in with a wrecking ball
i dont think ive ever saw another man take such a barrage of textbook power combinations from mike tyson and still stand there. thats almost superhuman .
Love Bruno and Tyson, 2 great fighters wish they still had fighters like this today in the heavyweight division.
I totally agree!! Boxing seems to have lost the beauty of fighting that these guys brought to the sport. Especially Tyson.
Honestly how did Bruno stand after all that... what a champ 😅
Tyson was the champ.
Tyson was the best too watch live in the 1980's! 👍🏻🇺🇲
No fucking doubt! Tyson fights were events at who ever had pay per view at there house. Bbq, 36 packs of beer, cocaine weed and bitches. Great times. Mid to late 80’s were incredible
@@gjezik DAM RITE! 👍🏻🇺🇲
Got to hand it to Bruno he actually staggered Tyson up until that point I don't think anyone even did that
Tony Tucker wobbled him and went the distance
"The man who rocked Tyson" people used to say.
Bruno is very underrated. One of the hardest punchers in history. He only lost to the very best. Even this Tyson was better than the one that came out of prison.
Tysons left hook and right uppercut were the best punches in the history of boxing.
You need to be hired by Tysons people to do an even more in depth retrospective of his career. You do an awesome job man.
@@KY_100 Why?
The way these shorts are edited and put together, with all the historical footage reels and fight analysis, is 5-star. Completely captures the entire mood and groove of the time ... thanks!
Tyson's body shot followed by the uppercut seems absolutely devastating. I would love to see the numbers in the force behind it. Like a shotgun blast or something similar.
😂 calm down probably more like getting hit with a wooden bat
@@adrianpate4694 then be my guest and volunteer yourself to get hit by it.

I want to say thanks for the last upload vs Spinks , and showing Tyson’s training routine, that was insane, last month I started to do the morning jog at around “Tyson time” so far it’s been pretty good morning exercise. 👍
I'm going to follow Mike tyson work out as well. Definitely a good work out to follow
@@Dontagerivera39 the morning jog is a great start, but the neck workouts, those are wild

@@jiovanysoltero923I would strongly suggest not to do those neck workouts. That's not for beginners and you can cause serious injury
Holy hell, Bruno weathering those punches is amazing in it's own right.
I'm English & proud to be so. When I heard about this match I feared the worst. Thanks Iron Mike for sending Bruno home in a jet & not a body bag.
You gotta give Bruno respect for that first round. Tyson was lightening quick ask ever and Bruno still made him swing at air. Impressive. That may have been the best first round of boxing I've seen.
Tyson deserves a bit more credit for his dominating wins against Bruno. Just because Frank was prone to getting knocked out, still didn't mean it was easy to do it. Prior to Tyson, he got stopped in the last stages of both fights. And both were against big men who knew how to punch. Mike just absolutely demolished him. Twice.
How was he prone to getting knocked out? I've never understood that narrative. He lost 5 times, twice to Tyson, once to Lewis - both are two of the hardest punchers in history and then to two solid fighters who both could punch and both were world champions in Tim Witherspoon and Bonecrusher Smith. He lost to 4 men in 45 fights, with 40 wins and 39 knockouts. I think Bruno deserves a lot more respect imo.
@@tonyh8965 And respect is what I am giving him. Which is exactly why I'm saying that Tyson deserves more respect for beating him twice. As for him being prone to getting knocked out, that's simply a way of saying, when he lost he got knocked out. Man lost 5 times but never by decision. I like Bruno, think he's very underrated in general. No less respect to him just because he was stopped a handful of times by big punchers. It's heavyweight boxing and that's the name of the game.
Bruno was a tomato cans
@@theblackmamba8686 Cool. Now show me your professional boxing record.

About once a month I think I need to just binge this whole series again. Even unfinished this is great work.
Great episode, I met frank when I worked at BAE and he was a lovely person to meet with huge hands.
The only thing holding Bruno up after taking those incredibly vicious shots was the hand of God.
It was Bruno power.
You gotta love Tyson's honesty
Like it or hate it, Mike Tyson is the youngest boxing heavyweight champion ever at the age of 20 years, the record that still stands the test of time... Tell Lenox, Evander,, Buster to train their children and grandchildren boxing so they can try to break this timeless record in human lifetime ....and they will never break....Until we all die, nobody will break this record
Always love seeing a new vid notification from this channel. I could watch you talk about Tyson mauling dudes for hours, man.
The way Mike says hi to the crowd haha. He just wanted to be loved and respected, just by the way he interacted shows he was a kind, soft hearted soul
Bruno took that beating very well out of all the fighters that came up against Mike Tyson. That was a really good fight. 😳😎
Great stuff! Thank you BLTV!

You can see Tyson's head moment was not the way it was in his early fights.
Frank took some howitzer shots staying longer than most ,a top unassuming bloke.

I miss those days with the huge red bow tie in the middle of the light blue ring as a kid with my pops and uncles and all the guys. Watching Mike Tyson destroy one boxer after another. Boxing has never been the same.

It’s cool to someone as talented and ferocious in the ring as Mike Tyson also able to express gratitude to a friend in such an honest, eloquent way! The GOAT, in my opinion.

Even though I love Mike Tyson I do have to admit that Frank Bruno looks abnormally good for a 61 year old, hell, I can't imagine any guy not wanting to look like Frank Bruno at that age.
The respect bruno and tyson had for eachother outside of the ring was amazing!!
