  • These old episodes felt a lot more intimate and less over produced. I think that's why I like his podcast more than his newer show episodes. Seeing Carrie here really brings back some good memories.

    • The format was falling apart, because television was falling apart. I see it now. You're right. Shit had enough room to breathe back then.

    • Had a similar thought watching. Was thinking how much more laid-back Conan seems in this one, where now his personality seems to come off as over-the-top. This is a throw-back to an era that is now gone. Feels like such a long time ago, but also feels refreshing to watch.

    • Famous people were less guarded before the Internet was ubiquitous. Not just the lack of social media, but the lack of TMZ, Drudge Report, Perez Hilton and the like. You only had tabloids, and they would give you a chance to buy them off first.

    • Bill Hitler was Der Furher’s half nephew. Born a British citizen, he moved to Germany and tried blackmailing Uncle Adolph with allegations about Jewish ancestry, but wisely got the hell out of Germany when Hitler asked him to renounce his British citizenship. He found himself touring the US after publication of a magazine article, “Why I Hate My Uncle”, when Poland was invaded. Bill petitioned FDR to let him serve in the US Navy, and was eventually accepted in 1944.
