This would have been a great trilogy
I grew up initially in a Mennonite household. Then parents went to a brethren church for awhile. Went to some southern Baptist churches too. Every Sunday, most Wednesdays and the special occasions too. I'm a registered nurse and I can confidently say I spent more time in church learning than I did at school to earn my nursing degree. Doesn't really matter which church, they all pull a few verses here or there to support whatever edicts they want.
Dang, Caligula, a.k.a. the Master Vampire is straight-up the embodiment of charisma and formidable! Charles Dance a.k.a. Tywin Lannister is definitely a Master at playing the Machiavellian Chess Master.
So, the vampire master is responsible for Gene Simmons and his own big tongue?

This is a great movie from before Hollywood became woke.
A weak man. A weak man that is looking for an easy way. To get power, fame, money... just a weak man will sell his soul.
A survivor. There were people in the concentration camps and in sieges in Bosnia, and when Serbs shot them in front of the pit and fell in it, they covered themselves with the dead bodies and managed to survive... Not many, just a few managed to do that and survive... Some of them couldn't go out from the pit for says, so they were there, surrounded by the dead, and since it was a hot summer, the stench, larvae and flies start to emerge... Trust me, there are worse things than death
"Your silver offends me, cloak it from my sight." I don't know why I love the way he says it it so much. Perfectly captures the superiority-complex of vampires in general
i don't know why they added that though. silver is more of a werewolf thing.
@@thanoseid2883probally due to silver being a holy thing, and usually known to ward away or kill evil beings like demons (which vampires are a type of)
@@RedSeraphim Silver is the most pure metal on earth, .99999 percent pure, it's purity is offensive to things that are evil in general, and can kill them. Salt's purity is also offensive to the demonic. In the Underworld movies, silver killed vampires regularly.

@thanoseid2883 Silver is a universal monster-repellant in slavic folklore. Vampires, werewolves, drekavac, demons, strigas, all fair game. This is why silver swords are used specifically against monsters in The Witcher, as the franchise is based on slavic mythology
The fact that this movie is almost 10 years old is insane. Time is going by way too fast.
Welcome to the party pal!
we do not have eternity
If you want your slow life back with real memories of what happened last week...you gotta get away from the screen. Tv . Mobile. Ipad etc. 1 hour per day and get out there in the real world
As far as I can tell, this is a near universal phenomena to us all as we age. I experience it, and most people I've talked to experience it. As a teenager, a single day seemed like an eternity. As some one in the middle of his life chronologically, life flies by at an accelerating rate. Seems kind of unfair for those who didn't have a happy childhood.

Always liked how the villain was always truthful and honest with Vlad about the gains and severe consequences of accepting his blood.
I don't understand 1 thing tho, if Vlad would feed in less than 3 days that means that Master Vampire would be free right. Then why does Master Vampire care about someone being worthy of that challenge. Wouldn't he want someone who would be more likely to fail the task instead?
@@russellwestbrookyellingatw9381 because you can only turn when you drink the blood of a vampire not when bitten. And the curse demands that the person has to drink the blood willingly
I don't think he was truthful. This entire scene was made a sequel in mind. Just think about it. The master vampire says he was stuck behind these walls for centuries. Then how does he know Vlad was a murderer? What he means when he says he will call him back in the future again, for an immortal game of revenge. And the next time he mentions "the game" when Vlad sees his reincarnated wife in our modern day. This leads me to believe there is a loop in timelines and Vlad is actually talking to himself in this scene, that's how he knows if Vlad lies and how he killed thousands. There is always a love, there is always a traitor and a story of revenge. The master vampire tricks Vlad to free himself, it was actually him that killed Mehmed's soldiers to trick Vlad to arrive his to cave, and if you noticed he uses his powers right before Vlad drinks from the vessel, his eyes are red, making Vlad submit to his will by force. Vlad himself will eventually learn this, and seek for a revenge on his master, but I suppose he will also be trapped, and thus he will lure another guy to his lair to seek out his revenge, creating an eternal game of revenge...

Dracula Untold should've been THE 1st film for The Dark Universe.
It was meant to be, but the studio was disappointed in the grosses, and turned to The Mummy reboot.

Lee Ermey it was Stanley Kubrick's last film Eyes Wide Shut that Tom Cruise destroyed. Like I said Universal should have stayed The Course with Dracula Untold as THE 1st film for The Dark Universe doing what Columbia did with The Resident Evil Franchise which got Negative Reviews and with The Mummy, they should have gone for either Sam Worthington or Justin Long as Nick Morton.

Amazing movie, shame we never got a sequel.
Just watched it last night. Was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Script coulda used a lil bit more work/elaboration, but hey, lots of room for a sequel or even prequel about the first ancient vampyrs. Cast did great work with what they had.
I would've loved to see a scene or movie of the Master Vampire getting his revenge.
The fact that even he surprised the master vampire just shows how evil vlad truly was
Not evil, but ruthless
You can tell it was very difficult for The Monster to articulate words while wearing those prosthetic teeth, but he did the best anyone could do.
So this was Ancient Vampire that throw Geralt away like he was nothing.
Charles Dance is absolutely chilling in this movie.. love him
I like how when someone swings a sword in a movie it makes a sound like it's cutting through something, when all it's cutting through is air😂
It’s very sharp.
@Gian Ibarrola not katana sharp! Lol
Hollywood sound effects
Actually, if you pay close attention during their conversation, you would realize it was the sound of the sword deflecting the swiping finger nails of the Master Vampire as he swirled around Dracula. Notice the sound his fingernails made when he tapped on the sword for us to see.
We even hear that whipping sound when the actors swing a punch or do a spinning kick!
I've always wondered what the plan was for Charles Dance's character in the sequel and who was this person that wronged him. Sucks that we'll never know.
They did say. After Vlad returns after first encountering the Master Vampire, the priest tells him. The Master was tricked and imprisoned by a Demon and trapped inside that cave(word of God is that the Master is Caligula). When Dracula freed him by indulging the hunger, he plans to take revenge(and before the credits, he says "Let the games begin." The idea was going to be to make it a series similar to Avengers, with the Universal monsters as a team, to my recollection. Unfortunately, the next movie that came out(which wasn't tied to this one)was "the Mummy"with Tom Cruise. That sort of killed the Universal monster craze and made this one dead in the water. Which is a shame, as it's one of my two favourite "Dracula"movies of all time(the other is FFC's "Bram Stokers Dracula".)
@@phousefilms Charles Dance a.k.a. Tywin Lannister is definitely a Master at playing the Machiavellian Chess Master. I wish we could see more of Caligula, a.k.a. the Master Vampire, cause this Emperor of Vampires straight-up the embodiment of charisma and formidable!

I agree with everyone in the comments this movie needs a sequel!!
This is my favorite movie of all time. I could watch it over and over, and it never gets old.
I was part of a 7 people group that was shown various trailers releases about this movie. We were not given much info, just told to rate the trailers. Was proud when I saw it aired life on tv.
I believed that this was the first of the Universal’s dark movie universe. I thought it sets up the biggest player in a story all his own with a tiny thread (the ancient vampire) that would connect him to the other monsters. Come to find out this movie is entirely unrelated.
If I recall, it was supposed to be the start of a cinematic universe. It just didn't do well enough, and then the Mummy failed to jumpstart it again.
Charles Dance is epic in this scene...one of my favourite performances of all time!! Good movie shame there was no sequel with the eternal game at play!!

This film was really a good start to a new take on the universal monsters. Sad they didn't capitalize on it.
Wonderful movie, perfect actors, the vampire, in game of thrones and other shows, he is so cold calculating, can be loving, but harsh.... that actor is amazing where'er he be. Intense always. Loved him in this role, loved him as lannister too.
Still best Dracula EVER to be put on the screen.
I wonder if anyone knows or realizes that Dracula himself was tricked by the vampire in the cave ? He said after 3 days he would be restored to normal if he didn't drink blood . But the Babba Yagga told Dracula 7 days in the deleted scene . I think the vampire in the cave is actually the demon and Vlad is the actual first vampire .. And the writings were about what happens to vlad according to a vision .
Like The way Master vampire looks like nosferatu
Great flick, just watched the deleted scenes when he meets Baba Yaga, should of left that in.
This film definitely needs a sequel. Universal can still put something together. Luke Evans and Charles Dance… They are awesome, on screen. I found this take on the “Dracula” story, to be quite an installment. Charles Dance’s “Master Vampire” definitely ended the film, with the idea that a sequel was coming.

Was he actually making a deal with the devil or a elder vampire. My dad said he made a deal with the devil
The dialogue's a little rough at times, but I think it did really illustrate the reality of Vlad III. He forced countless people, both Wallachians and the Turks, to suffer some of the most grotesque deaths imaginable. He incited a fear that few tyrants could ever hope to imitate in their grandest dreams. His very name is synonymous with cruelty in pop culture. At the same time...Romanians regard him as a national hero. Wallachia was stuck in between far larger and more powerful imperial interests of the time, and the Ottoman Empire presented a constant, brutal threat to their way of life even as other countries used them as a literal shield against the Ottomans to survive. Vlad inspired fear and horror in his enemies both at home and across borders, and despite the fact he was in prison for more of his life than he was an actual ruler...it's impressive to see just how much of a legacy he left. When his own countrymen were just as eager to slip a knife in his back as the Ottomans were, it necessitated in his eyes that he become a monster so brutal, so heartless, that nobody would dare trifle with him. Few other rulers in history defended Wallachia so strongly.
