This was a wonderful interpretation of Dracula. Langella played the character well. His baritone really enhanced the mystic of Dracula.
The finale for this Dracula version, with his cape floating away in the sky as a sign that he might return, is timeless.
Frank Langella played Dracula quite well.Very under appreciated movie
It's strange. As excellent as his portrayal is; I can't say that I was ever scared or even intimidated. Perhaps Mr. Langella could have used a few fangs/prosthetics. Actually the scariest vampire in the movie was the actress playing Mina VanHelsing.
❤
In all fairness, this is the version of Dracula I appreciated the most. Didn't require over the top digital effects. This is what 20th century cinematography was all about: Screenplay and acting.
He is one of the best dracula.
@@williamphillips6049It’s probably because Langella played him in the Broadway revival and that was the basis for the Bela Lugosi Dracula of the 30’s. So this film had more in common with the original play and film than the Christopher Lee Dracula’s later on
I saw Langella as Dracula on Broadway--the play was great and he was wonderful in the role!
My brother and I went to watch this movie on a Saturday night back in June of 1979. It was a classic.
Kate Nelligan was a major babe - she later appeared in EYE OF THE NEEDLE
@@jb-vb8un I remember Kate in Eye Of The Needle. She is one of my native Canada’s most distinguished actresses.
This is such an underrated film, hardly ever on but Frank Langella did a great job as Dracula.
I love the ending where it insinuates he may still be alive with that music and her smile
I like to think that he was never actually vulnerable to the sun, and that he and Lucy came up with this plan so that he could escape as he had no other way of dealing with them. He would make them think that he is dead, and Lucy has his blood in him and will become a vampire when she dies.
Hypergamy. Had to settle for Beta provider (Harker) but is an Alpha Widow (Dracula) - she's smiling thinking of all the wild $3X she had (or vampiric equivalent)
His soul is free, he is finally at peace. Lucy truly loves him and is happy.
Didnt he die at the end ?
I've always been a Dracula fan, and I absolutely went crazy over this movie. Loved it!
I first saw this Dracula in my teens on VHS while vacationing with relatives. I loved it too.
One of the better remakes! Frank Langella was a perfect choice to play Dracula.
Mavpoi dracula era morto veramente?
@@avvocatellawhiterose4784 It encourages our imaginations for sure.
This is a very good movie. Dracula was portrayed very differently in this film, rather saddened by his existence and quite lonely. Took Lucy as his Countess, as opposed to Mina. The score by John Williams is excellent.
Such a great scene from Dracula he gets fryed literally hanging there slowly faded away love it
With his cape being carried away by the wind.
This movie was fantastic. I had to hunt down the DVD for my collection. Frank Langella owned this character.
This was a horror favourite as a child mainly due to this scene. Cinema gold!
Great movie. The final scene of Dracula's cape flying on it's own over the ocean & then soaring upwards into the clouds is pretty awesome. It seems to suggest that even though Dracula was destroyed, he has evolved into a more powerful Dracula resistant to sunlight & might return in a sequel. Christopher Lee's Dracula always came back after being destroyed numerous times, so why not Langella's Dracula? At least one more time.
Her smile as she watches the cape supports your idea. Pretty creepy.
Vampires can't cross running water on their own. That's why his box was on a ship.
This happened at the end of House Of Dark Shadows based on the TV Series Created by Dan Curtis. At the end of the movie, we see a Bat Fly off after Barnabas Collins was Killed by Jeff Clark. There was talks of a second movie, but Jonathan Frid was against it since he was tired of playing the Role in both the Series and the Movie.
@@jennymacallan9071 hypergamy
@@josephhinkofer5995 I checked it out. Very, very interesting. I did not know that. Thanx.
Such a great scene. This and Coppola’s Dracula are completely unmatched, especially compared to that abysmal Netflix series.
Absolutely agree ❤
Christopher Lee was the best Dracula ever. Some of those movies were not the best, but he was phenomenal.
Netflix decided that politics was a better choice in their woke version of Interview with the vampire. Fools, they lost so much earning potential.
I saw this movie at the theater when it came out in 1979,its possibly the most underrated Dracula movie ever.
No Dracula didn’t die. He returned as Skeletor
Yes, and he fought Ivan Drago as well.
I thought he came back as Nixon?
@@rockhero2274No he came back as Perry White
All actors as Dracula were great choices and did great
The ending was always sort of nebulous and creepy. Did he survive??? Frank was such a handsome vampyre...as the undead tend to be. He played this well on stage on Broadway...this was an under rated film. Nice bit of nostalgia though...thanks.
That's the most animated I've ever seen Frank Langella
Most handsome Dracula.
You should play Castlevania Lords of Shadow series. That Dracula is a handsome guy.
@@Ieatpaste23 oh thank you, I will look, I remember Frank Langella was doing the play and women were fainting because he was so sexy. That's why they did the movie, it's my favorite scary movie. Thank you for texting back.
@@cathyarthur3199 Dang. Dude needs a Surgeon's General warning. Castlevania Lords of Shadow is a great videogame series that tells the story of Dracula. It's a unique story. It goes LOS 1, Mirror of Fate, and LOS 2. Play the DLC of 1&2 for the complete story. It's a love letter to horror movies and old myths.
5:17 she falls in love with a fucking kite. LOL
This version of Dracula was the first Vampire movie that I ever saw as a child. I remember that my Mother took me to the movie theater to see it. I remember bits and pieces of it, but I remember the ending scene like if it was yesterday.
Awesome movie, and awesome soundtrack by the immortal John Williams.
He will back to her and they will be together forever ❤️
Kate Nelligan is hot in this, and this is the best Dracula version in my opinion. Langella not having fangs in it takes away from the realism of being a vampire but other than that, the cast, settings, and actors , and the music makes it fantastic.
They don't actually kill him. He flies away in bat form under his cape. Lucy's smile means she knows he will come back for her.
the perfect ending
OR she's preggo?? 😮😮😮
You noticed Lucy’s smile too.I had never noticed it before.
I think Jonathan actually killed Dracula because he was jealous. He saw Dracula not as a monster, but as competition.
Your capacity to think is doubtful.
@@SpeccyMan You could’ve said, “I find your lack of thinking… disturbing.”
I love these movies.
One of John Williams' best scores
Seeing Dracula scream and shake uncontrollably because of the sun burning him to death is unsettling, Frank Langella sure did a great job playing Dracula in this movie but the sad thing is this movie never got much attention nor did it get a sequel and we’re all left wondering if Dracula did survive.
Best Drácula movie ever
Great movie langella was great along with the rest of the cast
He was one of my favorite Dracula's

Dracula died, that’s how she went back to being human
Intressting ending though... does he really die at the end and the "cape" flies away?! or is he escaping and slowly regenerating his powers ;)
Best Dracula music EVER!
Lol Eddie Shoestring, even got the same wardrobe and sounding exactly like Alan Partridge. Priceless.
Didn't expect Van Helsing to Die in this Scene.
Great film great actors
Thankyou
Good horror this with a creepy atmosphere. The scene under the graveyard is frightening. Apart from the mistake of killing VH and making Dracula a matinee idol, this is one of the better Draculas.
6 EPI 11 EPI 7.

At least Langella's Dracula fought back; Lugosi's Dracula got killed without even a whimper.
Lugosi was in deep sleep
Which is how the book had it go. He had time to see the sun was setting but before he could think the lid was ripped off and he was stabbed and decapitated.
I think Dracula needs to keep a bottle of sun screen in the coffin. He has this problem in most of his films .
The Broadway production of this was amazing
The stake was supposed to be able to pierce through Dracula's body but it couldn't pierce through his thin shirt LOLOLOLOL
Dracula go "Rarrr!"
Maybe Lucy was happy knowing that Dracula’s curse had finally ended. She did care for him and they had passion. His cape flying away could be interpreted as his tormented soul being freed. I look at it more like that instead of Dracula escaping to return later.
It's a shame the did't make a sequel out of this Dracula movie.
lol, how?
@@vpcproduction7070 Well, They way how it end. It almost feels like that was still him. But it’s not.

Love Frank Langella, Laurence Olivier and Trevor Eve but this scene was so funny. played so over the top like the Dracula films with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.. I loved the film.
Brilliant film version.
The music is amazing, John Williams
It was the last score he composed before he started making them all sound alike.
Love this film. Thank you
In most movies, Dracula burns under the sun. But here he doesn't.
I 💕😘 this movie and frank langella is my favorite Dracula
That’s one way to kill Dracula just hook him and up and burn him
No. At least in book Sun doesn't kill dracula only weakens his powers to the point where he can stroll around like a normal human but not transform or mind control or anything
💯 % THE best DRACULA movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 in the world 🌎 👌 ❤
I think it's cute how the screaming sexy lady got to live but the evil bad man needs to be punished. I pretty much always feel like that. 🧛
Realized that he should not have booked that holiday last week to Athens!!!!
"il faut si peu de jours pour faire un siècle...film magnifique
Some high factor sun cream might have been in order.🧛♂️
This movie was actually a really good one. I kinda consider this one to be on par with Vampire the Masquerade, given how Dracula gives the kiss to his victims (You see the similarities? 🙂) And as of Dracula's cape flying off? It probably means that although Dracula was defeated at this point in time, he can NEVER be truly dead. Who knows where that Dracula is hiding? Will we see him again?
EEEEEWWWW !!! I remember when he gets his chemical peel from too much UV session it disgusted the puke out of me as a child when I saw it in VHS, I was like NOOOOOO Not the botched chemical peel scene !!! 😭
And people say actors now are bad 😂
Yep, this is dreadful lol.
You know nothing about acting.
@@dollartop now how is that objective if my subjective knowledge isn't dominating my judgement?
Because of Trevor Eve I wanted Dracula to win. Ah Lucy!!!!
Laurence Olivier is the best Van Helsing of any version, but the true star of this adaptation was Frank Langella's hair.
Best vampire death.
Time to find yourself a new girlfriend, Jonathan.
Liked the picture.🌍👍🌍💯🌍💓🌍👏🌍😋🌍🌟🌍
Snarling and growling by Bobcat Goldthwait.
'Must be why vampires don't like being at sea.
In this scene, John Badham commits two of the cardinal sins of stunt work; He shows Olivier's stunt double in close-up... ...And in slow motion.
Frank Langella is a great actor
How’s this for a contrast, the guy who directed this film did Saturday Night Fever just two years earlier
Killing the count Dracula the final scene movie video is really looking very beautiful and superb mam and sir to watch 👋😃👍👍👌👌👌👌🙏🙏🙏🎊🎊🎉🎉🇮🇳🇮🇳🌹🌹💐💐

So many screen adaptations of Dracula....and they still haven't figured out bullets can't kill him.
Actually this is the first time this happened
Talk about hanging a vampire out to fry.
That's my old kite from the 70s.
I hate it when they wait too long to kill the vampire.
Classic movie of course
This movie was a big deal when it came out in 1979. It was loosely portrayed as a modern adaptation & replacement of the 1933 movie as the “official” classic Dracula go-to movie.

No suncream UV protection at that time
Romanticism versus modernity. Modernity wins in the form of the winch, or does it?
Apesar do ator nao ser um Crsthopher Lee., Bela Lugosi, etc, foi muito bom o desempenho.😅
Can anyone with knowledge of film tell me how this was shot? It seems like it's in color...but not. Like the colors are faded like the movie was in the wash too long lol. Gives it a great 'period' feel for the material but I was just curious
They should have staked them both as soon as they opened the box.
She was so hot! 🔥
Kate Nelligan is absolutely gorgeous!
très bonne version Lawrence Oliver et Franck langela excellent a redécouvrir avec plaisir .
Jonathan is a punk in the movie. He acts BA till he gets in trouble then screams for Van Helsing to save him.
Dracula Hates Sunlight.
How was dracula able to fly away? I thought he couldnt survive in sunlight.
Amazing!!!
He's lacking vitamin D. He's needs to see Dr Pimple Popper 😅
What happened at the end? Is that flying black thing the count escaping?
So much for vampire strength.
