  • Cardboard is probably a good idea. Also, what the camera man referred to as a breaker bar is actually a crowbar or pry bar. A breaker bar takes a socket and is used to loosen nuts. You can also use a spray on soap or lubricant instead of the grease.

    @joshjhudson@joshjhudson8 жыл бұрын
    • +Josh Hudson I use a rounded end tire bar so there's no chance of puncturing or tearing the tire. Don't try this with a large screw driver. You'd have to have some really cheap rims to screw them up with a quality tire bar. Your tire bar should only touch the inside of the rim.

  • ok fellas heres a tip for you dont put grease on the tire it will not rot out but if your tire ever actually needs to hook up the chance of you spinning the wheel in the tire is very high. but other than that not a bad method. this will not work wlth low profile tires but for anything with a sidewall bigger that 60 you would have no trouble. use soapy water to lube your tires the water evaporates and the soap helps the tire stick to the rim unlike grease that will still be slippery in 10 years.

    @thmnuri@thmnuri10 жыл бұрын
    • I guess they forgot to mention, but I'm just saying, you can always clean off the grease from the tire and rim after you put the tire on the rim. I guess the grease is there just for lubing. I don't think you need to leave it on. Just saying.

    • John Titor So do you use soap to remove the grease and have a chance of missing a smear (Which will happen) and spinning the rim? Just use soap in the first place like every tire shop.

  • since when is grease used to install tires .. what we use is something that looks like grease called tire paste but actually dries and locks the tire bead to the rim to ensure it doesnt spin on the rim . and i love the cloves with the sandals also when doing this u use a tire bar not a pry bar

  • You guys are ridiculous about the scraping you do realize that that is the inside of the rim and no one will ever see it..... right? I am also quite certain that the integrity of your aluminum/steel alloy rims will be ok. However when I do it I don't use soap just squeeze over rim than loop a ratchet strap over the tire and tighten while putting air in the tire it will pop right on. And then as to the balancing tire pressure that is not rocket science you use a pressure gage and make sure that the tire pressure is the same in both front tires and both rear tires hopefully the optimum pressure listed on the tire.... People that pay for balancing are dumb go to gas station and use the free air usually a gage attached.

    @Nilboggen@Nilboggen9 жыл бұрын
    • Adam Reese you're so dumb balancing has nothing to do with the air pressure

      @isaacdinardo2325@isaacdinardo23257 жыл бұрын
    • And I imagine that you think it has to do with the weight around the circle of the tire. So lets say as I am driving my car around road eventually pieces of my rim and tire are worn away over time to create an imbalance across the circle this is called radial force variation. First off I challenge you to buy a brand new vehicle with wheels and zero miles on the odometer and take it to get your tires balanced. I guarantee you will end up with a bunch of weights attached to the rim of your tire. A machine at the place you took it to said it was out of balance. Now the person operating the tire spinning machine has no idea where to put weights to "balance" the tire so he guesses and moves the weights around until the spinning machine says its "ok". Well there are about a million problems with that. Number one the tire isn't the only thing spinning in your car you have an axle and a wheel hub that also spin, which means that although the tire and rim may be spot on it isn't accounting for everything that spins. Number two your axle spins at a constant speed split over 2 of these "balanced" or not tires determined by the amount of gas released into your combustion engine. The real reason that tires will cause your car to vibrate is because the rim which shapes the tire is not longer close enough to a perfect circle (no rim ever made is a perfect circle unless by sheer chance or a miracle). If your car is actually vibrating because your rim is so out of "circle" its time for a new rim not a "tire balancing". Because the centripetal force required to turn the tires with weights on them is increased however only one axle is turning two tires whether they have weights or not so you are using more gas and your tires aren't spinning in sync (granted the more out of sync they are the more it will cause vibrations ergo more friction). In my opinion balancing a tire is a bad patch job that will have to be continuously repeated and when you can buy a new rim for $20-40 that will better your car far more why spend $$ on it?

      @augustebenstein6838@augustebenstein68387 жыл бұрын
    • You literally talked nothing about air pressure all I said was it has nothing to do with air pressure and the balance machine tells them exactly where the weights go.

      @isaacdinardo2325@isaacdinardo23257 жыл бұрын
    • Tires are balanced and tested to meet the manufacturers specifications and then again just before being placed on a new car. They’re not going to be any more balanced than at the time of purchase. Most every dealership and tire shop includes balancing and rotation for the life of the tire upon purchase so it’s not costing anything but your gas & time to balance them. Also, with the majority of newer cars, the sensors in your ABS can give a real time estimate for any unbalance, in turn, taking the guess work out of play. There’s also a multitude of other reasons besides a wheel deformation that will cause vibrating.

Obviously you'd want them balanced by a shops machine whenever possible but this method does work if you just need a tire to get you through state inspection with no money spent from getting a shop to do it or get your farm vehicle rolling again.
