      @jimrockqc@jimrockqc2 жыл бұрын
    • @@jimrockqc 1) I guess Pietrangelo, American commentators agree with me... and to be honest, Canadian commentators pointed out the same thing twice now, but they're much more keen to not fairly distribute the praise. 2) I don't think Weber and Petry are bad. Weber was a D in Team Canada, was a D in U20 Team Canada and in the Olympics. But if it makes you sleep at night to think Carey is the sole reason Habs has gone this far then you do you. 3) Let's ignore the fact no respectable analyst would agree the Habs defensemen are '4 6th pairs'. Let's assume you're right. That's like saying because Sweden's soccer team has a bunch of individually average defenders they are easy to score against. No one in their right mind would say that. Sweden are tough to score on, but because of how they play they also have a hard time scoring. Basically exactly describing the Habs during Price's few good seasons (while Habs goalie backups rose to top of the league during the exact same time as Price had plenty of great games... strange). 4) If you disagree, look at last night's game. How many well aimed shots did Price handle - 1? Same question the game before - 1? 2? Vegas gave up 3 breakaway chances last night alone. 5) Price plays an aggressive stance. This makes it much easier to save as you cut off the angle, but it puts more pressure on your D to keep it clean. Price does this all the time. Easier for him, harder for the team - but the team has handled it very well for most of the time, as I've seen multiple segments about by now. But I also have my eyes, and I do watch each Habs playoff game at least once. 6) Price has been average since they fired one of the most defensive coaches in the league. This season the backups were better. Price plays a good game in the playoffs this year, but very low amount of good chances. 7) Habs changed their game after game 4 vs the Leafs. Price still let in the expected amount, with the big difference he got a lot less high quality chances at him. Again - not just my opinion. 8) Average goals per game per team in the playoff is less than 2 goals. When Price lets in above 2 goals per game he's 'amazing' and when Campbell plays just as well (even better stats in the same series) he gets ignored by Canada's Sportsnet. Ron even giggled a bit at this himself in a moment of self-realization. Love that guy, I do. 9) Bottom line, just watch the games. Price had very little to do last night and let up one bad goal. Unlucky, sure. Bad goal, sure. The game before, plenty of shots but extremely few good shots at him.

Kulak,Merril,Gustaffson are barely 7th defenseman, so yeah that leaves you with good old slow Weber, and turnover king Petry! Btw Pietrangelo will never openly say, yeah Price is rent free in our head... he's down playing it for his team! I dunno how you give so much credit to an 8th seed who had 1 victory over OTT and VAN!!

    • @@jimrockqc I believe you when you say you didn't read what I said. Pietrangelo did not say that, you're right. But you're also misquoting me. He was asked if he was worried about Price and he pointed out Price surely has a high save percentage but they had analyzed their games and he was not a main concern by them. It was on Sportsnet Canada if you want to look it up. This makes perfect sense, as even Canadian Sportsnet has pointed out how few good shots Habs defense has allowed since game 4 vs the Leafs. "Price has been great but it's the habs defense that is getting it done" / Mainly *American* hockey analysts, and also sane non-biased hockey fans. Read my point 3) if you're interested in some easy to understand logic. You also place far too much weight on tiny sample pool data. Or just watch the games. Actually watch them. All of them. That includes regular season, to fully understand the change in Habs' game.

    • Not so much soft play by Merrill, imo, but a bad bounce(?)/partial incidental interference by ref. who was trying to jump away from the puck along the boards just prior to puck being controlled by Karlsson (Caufield had a brief shot to gain control of the puck and he missed). Merrill got faked out by Karlsson so really had no chance to shiver/shake him on the boards. It happens and it's part of the game. You can see that Edmundson briefly had a chance to follow him to the boards but I'm guessing he was expecting a centering pass (on Price's stick side). Once he realized that Karlsson wasn't going to pass right at that moment, he chased him but had to go around the the front of the net...too late to prevent the pass from K to McNabb. All the Habs were on Price's stick side with flow going to his glove side. Still, Price usually makes the save (and has been making harder ones than that many more times in these playoffs). Guess cheapie goals that make a difference in games have evened out in this series.

The officiating will simply let more go by than in the regular season. How else do physical teams with not as much speed compete for the cup? They do anything they can to slow down and wear down the opposition. Look at the Tampa Bay Lightning and LA Kings for examples of recent cup winners that play a heavy, nasty, physical game.
