  • Interesting Epilogue: According to several sources, LAPD eventually returned all the weapons to the gun store that were borrowed during the shootout. The weapons were obviously used and dirty. The store owner allegedly asked the LAPD to pay for the weapons, as they could no longer be sold as new. LAPD allegedly refused to buy them. Rather than pursuing legal action for compensation, the store owner advertised the weapons for sale as “actual North Hollywood shoot out” relics, quickly selling all of them for much more than their actual retail value.

  • I never get tired of reading or hearing about this. It’s just amazing to me how two guys were able to survive a 44 minute shootout with ANYBODY, but especially police. I know the police weren’t prepared for something like this to ever happen, but it’s still amazing that it took 44 minutes. It’s also AMAZING how nobody except for the bank robbers were killed.

  • My dad was an officer in this shootout. I watched it live on TV fully knowing I might witness my dad get gunned down. He’s now retired after 38 years of serving LAPD

  • I have seen probably a dozen North Hollywood breakdowns, but your might be one of the best. Quick, concise, no dragged out drama.

  • True story… The female LAPD dispatcher that worked the shootout that day was as professional and calm as could be, it was also her first day on the job as a dispatcher.

  • I remember watching this entire shootout play out on tv with my dad. Both of us sitting in shock. My father did 40+ years in law enforcement and I still remember the look of horror on his face as those brave officers of lapd took this situation on highly HIGHLY outgunned. Still gives me chills

  • I remember this... I lived a couple blocks away and this was my bank. The cops looted the gun store to get heavier fire power. I'll never forget this day.

  • My uncle was involved in this shootout. He said it was a miracle that no one especially none of the officers were killed except for the suspects.

  • I was in the Sheriffs Academy the day this happened. All of the recruits were called in from PT to watch and listen to this incident progress. It was eye opening when we all thought, "This could be us in 6 months."
