They can only be impeached by the House just like any president. Only one justice has been impeached (1805), but was acquitted by the Senate.

It has been a joke for a long time now! Why do you think that poor and colored people don't trust law enforcement, courts, judges, government and politicians?
What is the American justice system's typical response to a defendant who obliges the state to go to all the fuss and bother of dragging a case all the way through the courts instead of simply pleading to a lesser charge? Don't they typically incur the harshest sentences available in the event that the prosecution prevails?
Our judicial system makes a mockery of itself by the special treatment trump gets. He's should have not gotten special treatment from the beginning period!

Meanwhile, long-time US ally South Korea grew into a strong democracy with a strong rule of law, so strong that they sent former presidents and a Samsung VP behind bars for crimes such as corruption, bribery and embezzlement. That's because the rule that judges are not allowed to receive bribes, i mean gifts does not apply to Supreme Court judges. Many the Supreme Court judges have received millions of dollars in gifts over the years.

What is worse is that Fani Willis and Jack Smith worked SO hard to amass evidence, and the Colorado legal team as well as a D.C. Federal Court presented air-tight cases, but we have CORRUPT justices who have blocked the natural outcome of actual court proceedings. It is a friggin travesty and as some smart media personalities have stated, the very fact that this insidious "supreme" court is taking up the issue of Presidential immunity for serious crimes shows how dangerous the 3rd branch of our government--designed to check balance any power plays by either other branch (congress or the Presidency) --has become. I lived in London during my college years and there was an organization, "Preservation for the Rights of Prisoners" that published a small book entitled, "Who guards the guards"? Now it could be said, "Who enforces Justice when Justices have gone amok?"

Thank you... I have been wondering when someone would bring this up. I have been waiting for him to actually cross that line, and get hit with additional convictions. I wasn't confident that Judge Merchan would actually find him in contempt of court. But his train-wreck of a NY election interference trial is another matter. When it reaches a conclusion, if the Jury finds him guilty of even one of the many counts he is charged with, he is in violation of all of those other conditions of release from the other trials, and he could be remanded to jail. The more convictions, the merrier. They might have to draw straws to see who gets the privilege. This is the collateral damage that could I could really appreciate.

You’re not wrong about the inequality in our Justice system, but I think you misunderstand the “or” there. It’s not the defendants choice, it’s the judges choice. The judge can levy up to $1000, or up to 30 days in jail.
I had a friend who was stoned drunk and he stole a box of popsicles from a 7 11 and was caught and thrown in jail for it. Real every day people go to jail for things every day, yet this guy still walks. He has ruined so many people's lives and broken so many laws it's unbelievable.

Glenn, how do you have any faith in any of these judges to hold Trump accountable? They have proven many times over that they lack the nerve to do so.
I think the judges are all stalling, the longer they wait to punish him (jail him) the weaker his support will be (so less maniacs commiting violence) and the less time for his matredom to grow between his jailing and the beginning of the primaries.

I'd say I don't believe the ridiculous games Trump's lawyers are playing to delay ALL these cases, but at this point, nothing surprises me. The only thing that *might* surprise me is if he finally does end up in jail. I really do think they should just say damn the political consequences at this point, throw him in jail for as long as they have the *opportunity and right* to do so, and be done with it. They are only delaying the inevitable and possibly making it worse.

An ex President is a national security asset with Secret Service protection. The Secret Service has Supremacy Clause authority when it comes to how they handle the logistics of an ex Presidents safety. A state judge cannot legally order a FEDERAL agency to allow an ex President to be hypothetically be jailed for contempt.

This is how judges work. One side makes a complaint and files it with the judge. The judge makes that complaint available to the other side and gives them time to respond to it. There is a hearing scheduled and the reason why the judge doesn’t act immediately is because judges like to hear from both sides before making a ruling. Edit: Unnoticed autocorrect errors.
