I think this is understated, but CM Punk is one of the most fascinating performers in the history of professional wrestling. This guy has stayed extremely relevant into his mid-40s! And he still looks great. Kudos to him
He’s the first ever “indie darling” that made it in WWE then left in the middle of his prime, became known as the anti-WWE guy, came back to another company and gave them their most successful years, then came back to WWE because he rebelled against the indie mentality. Interesting career.
Truly a cult of personality, and he's always changing it up, he evolves just enough to keep people coming back to him but not enough to lose the core audience that still sees him as the martyr of wwe rebellion, or the indie breakout, or the aew reviver, etc.
Punk is the man. His AEW run was awesome all things considered. Im glad WWE is on fire now and Punk made the move back there.

Does Punk have any credibility left? CM Punk is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers and one of the guys that got me back into wrestling, but I hate to say it, I think his credibility has taken some massive hits. CM Punk is not a badass, nor is he a tough man. We've seen that now. Ziggler is a championship wrestler, and could probably kick his ass IRL. Woods wrestled in high school, same. Cody, same. Hell, Daniel Bryan, even with his size difference, looks like he understands grappling and BJJ basics more than Punk. I just have trouble buying that guy as being able to handle people. I know wrestling is fake, but in not seeing most guys actually fight, you can kind of buy into the fact that they'd be able to kick the asses of any number of people. Now I look back at the arguments between Punk and Chris Brown and Punk and Shawn Merriman and wonder "... could those guys take him out actually?" At least Brock and Ronda were champions at one point. Punk got beat by a journalist. It's like if Tyson Fury got his ass kicked by Perez Hilton. I still got love for the guy, but maybe Punk stays out of both wrestling and MMA and focuses on things like comic books, podcasts and... something. Whatever he can do that's non-physical.
I honestly doubt cm punk is beating up ANYONE after his EMBARRASSMENT in ufc TWICE

@@adampage7878you’re exactly who this ops comment was taking about lol.
I dunno. Punk has an ego issue and I think his inability to reign it in is part of the reason he's seen as a dishonest guy. He's willing to twist the facts just enough to not be a lie, but also not be the full truth. I truly believe his issues in AEW began when his ego was hurt seeing that some other "Indie" guys did what he said he would do. And because he wasn't immediately shown respect by absolutely everyone in the locker room, he took it personally. His ego is the reason everyone around him seemed "like children."
That's pretty hyperbolic to say considering you don't know this person in real life. @@adampage7878

This is how you conduct an interview. The interviewer isnt constantly looking at the camera or reacting in a fake way. Not pretending that everything is awesome. Hardly any interruptions and no gimmicks.
Ariel is great at asking all the right questions people want to hear but allowing guests to then have their say.
Punk hit the nail on the head saying AEW is more concerned with putting on a 5 star Meltzer match then actually growing the TV and live crowd audience. The indie stuff doesn't work long term for an American wrestling audience and its only sustained cause Tony's dad is rich.
The whole promotion is based on popping Unca Dave.
I know it’s weird but I like to compare aew to ridiculousness on mtv. The first two shows you watch you love them but then realise it’s just the same thing every time
Hey kid, they're funded and earning more than the network expected...try to keep up and get your fingers out of hhh's ass.

Vince russo too if he smart enough

Victims of this interview - Tony Khan - Dave Meltzer - Jungle Jerkoff - Colt (stray) - The Elite - Vince Am I forgetting anyone??? Real talk, this is one of the most open and honest interviews ever. A lot of misconception about this dude has gone out of hand and you can tell all he wants to do is make a difference and make a living and enjoy what he is doing. And Tony fumbled the bag big time letting him go and keeping the jackasses.
Where is he talking about Dave Meltzer?
@@felix0704 He made a comment by saying, "If you're okay with doing five star rated matches by some goof (goof being Meltzer) with a stadium 1/4 full, then we're not in the same business".

Funny watching Brian Alvarez (one of the reporters that punk was referring to in this interview) cry about Punk saying that and yet supposedly Alvarez is a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu lol As a jiu jitsu guy he should know exactly what Punk means when he says that but instead he has to act outraged anyway because the Bucks and all of those guys are his little butt buddies.

1 hour and 50 minutes have never felt shorter. I loved every bit of it. Thanks to Punk for not dodging any questions. Haters will hate but this guy is pure gold.

I never thought id see the day CM Punk was in the wwe and vince McMahon isnt.
Can he finally get his ice cream bars? I know they did do that at AEW but they weren't the same thing. They need real CM Punk picture-on-cookie ones. My friend got one at a WWF house show in 1992 where I saw Warrior wrestle for three seconds and it really disappointed me it was so short... he was in and out in like a minute. Some dads were yelling "hey how about the kids??". All the other faces took a lap around the ring to high five kids. We didn't have ringside seats but all the kids ran up to the guardrail during the entrances and after matches. Anyway I never got one of the classic ice cream bars and I regret it. I remember asking my friend how it was and he said "not bad".
Life is most bizarre at times.
Punk played the long game for sure lol
That pipebomb promo came full circle, he cooked mcmahon here as well...
Like you said, and I'd like to think that this company would be better after Vince McMahon is dead. He wasn't lying, Vince McMahon still may be alive, but he's dead to the wrestling world honestly. Punk was right
I never knew about the Young Bucks till AEW and as time has gone on I've liked them less and less. I can't know for sure how they are behind the scenes but there's a lot that just makes me feel sus about it. However I do really like Kenny Omega. I know Kenny is good friends with the Bucks but he has always seemed so much different than them. He seems like a respectable guy who isn't just in it for himself and is a big fan of wrestling as a whole. In all the interviews I've seen him in he seemed very reasonable. So I wonder if Punk has any problems with Kenny or if it is just the Bucks.
Idk bout Kenny but the bucks put out the vibe like they’re jerks Bts
This was an awesome interview. I've never been a huge CM Punk fan, but listening to this just won me over. Smart guy with a ton of wisdom. Really enjoyed all of this interview.
When I loaded up my phone and saw snippets of this interview, all I thought was "Man, Cornette, Bischoff, and Bryan Alvarez are going to have something that fills the air waves for like 2 weeks". Just awesome! 😂
Exactly. But you know the AEW marks AND Meltzers response will be, "well...but.." 😂
@@HBKStylesOh, absolutely! It will be entertaining, too. I just like wrestling (Including AEW), and being a guy that grew up during the Hogan and Austin eras, this is part of adding to the enjoyment of how modern wrestling is constructed. These interviews add to the "work" of enjoying wrestling in modern times.

As a CM Punk fan, this is was bloody cathartic after years of hearing him being called a cancer. And don't get me wrong, I'm an AEW fan, but the business model needs to adapt and change.
Yes, Tony definitely needs to start doing some long-term booking. These dream matches are fun to watch but without a story they’re only gonna work for so long (and I think we’re close to where they stop working).
very well said bro!
He admitted to choking his coworker, refusing to talk to Colt Cabana without a lawyer, and justified every bad thing he ever did in AEW. If this is liberating and cathartic to you, you are just a CM Punk hyperfan. Thats allowed, but just be a little more honest with yourself and the world. You friggin love CM Punk and anything he says is cathartic to you.
