  • Hey Jimmy, I’m a boat builder on the Gold Coast in Oz, The little cracks in the back end of the leading edge cap are from differential flex between plywood skin and the leading each cap at the rabbit where the ply is glued and screwed. Not a big deal. We get the on yacht spars all the time, give it a little grind back with 36g resin disc, acetone wipe and reglass with 6oz E glass and West System epoxy, Peelply it, let it go off, rip the peelply off, sand it up and paint. Two hours work tops. Any questions Just ask, love your work by the way!

  • Jimmy, the fuel could dissolve some of the adhesives and sealant if they are not rated for the correct class and type to be around fuel. If you can boroscope the wing that may be the best way to inspect it. You may need to pull the fuel tanks out to inspect the spar and other wing structures. -Billy

  • So. after you did all the work for that family getting all the others running, I assume 100% at your expense, they back out of the deal. I also assume it then came back to them wanting more money now that you got them running for them? That's just really crappy of them to say the least. Personally, I would not have dealt with them on the P51 after being treated that way.

  • The SZD-36A Cobra is one of the last gliders that have a WOOD wing. You could look for a Cobra owner, or contact the Bielsko company in Poland, and FIND people qualified to inspect and if necessary repair such a wooden plane. Walking away is a bit too simple. Wood and linen is classic. And safety could safe your life.

I like whenever you do a video of a kit or a plane that somebody who has passed away owned or built cause it's something they have most likely spent lots of years and money and effort into and you get to put something from their legacy or what they left behind up on KZhead basically 4ever for everyone to see regardless of whether you buy it or not, that's awesome in my book. This thing is sweet just watch out for that wood I guess, bummer the wings can't come off to truck it.

  • 🌴 🤔 well I’m not the brightest penny in the bunch , but👈🏼 those wings looked pretty sturdy from were in sitt’n , ya you could do a flex test to see if there’s big concern , , but if your worried about the seams coming apart , due to moisture or probably expansion, you could just dremel out those seams and fill them with epoxy and mill fiber , a little primer and paint your good to go , and not that expensive of a fix , having another mechanic working on it with video or pictures of the repairs I think would be your best bet , as for flying it home , to Florida, a bit of test flying to make sure the little lady is trust worthy and let er rip ! “ WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG !” , hey do you own a parachute 😂

    @GarnettM@GarnettM4 ай бұрын
  • I couldn’t disagree with more than the previous commenter. Wood planes that have been stored indoors will remain as solid as the day it was built. All you need to do to check the planes wooden parts is to buy or borrow a digital moisture meter. If the wood is damaged or rotted, the moisture level will be high. I’ll bet that the meter tells you that the wood is solid and dry. The plane could use a paint job but otherwise it’s very cool Jimmy. I agree that you should sell it BUT, please get it going and take it for a spin first ok. Btw, I am a fan of wooden boats and have had several of them. Well maintained wooden boats last forever and that’s a hull that sits in the water for its entire life. Your wooden plane has maybe been rained on a few times but otherwise I’m 99% sure the wooden air frame is solid as a rock. Good luck either way my friend. 👍🇺🇸✌️

  • I'm amazed it has very little (if any) dihedral to the main wings... The bad thing about wood, is it is much more susceptible to heat, and cold and humidity, than metal, and over time that stuff, mainly the glues, would dry out and not be flexable leading to delamination. That could be a very serious and a fatal outcome. awe hell, I think you should... a) keep it and b) fly it at least once! Then maybe park it.

  • Get it running and flying if its not a lot of trouble and sell it. or mabey runing and sell it or better yet buy the cessena 150 instead although its dusty it has not run is long time. Easier. wing did flex on the p51 when you picked up on it. left one did. To me it is scary.

  • Note; Aluminum aircraft can have extensive structurally compromising corrosion. Same for steel framed fuselages. .

  • You should consider getting the citation. Also, curious why you had to blur the aircraft tail numbers at the end of the video?

  • If you fly it home take a parachute with you with a homing beacon. We'd hate to lose you Jimmy. I don't trust it I know it flew but how long did it fly and Texas to Florida is a long time for a piece of furniture to be in the air.
