    • She's a member of EAA Chapter 35 in San Antonio. A pretty amazing pilot... just a few years ago she took her first ride in an aerobatic airplane, now she regularly competes in regonal competitions; just finished her commercial; took a helicopter ride I think late last year, now getting her helicopter add-on. Regular Young Eagle pilot. Instrument rated. I was not expecting to see her, and just got an email from her confirming that it was her. I'm just bummed that Jimmy was in my neck of the woods, and I didn't know it, couldn't get over to rubberneck or photobomb a youtube video.... LOL

Always wanted me to go to Oshkosh with him. Regret not taking the time to be with him. Thank you Jimmy for the great video! Be Safe!

Can't wait see this fly and I think this will be the first to sell . That's of cause if don't decide to keep it for yourself . I'm sure you could persuade your better half 😊😊

  • Looks like the builder did a great job on your aircraft. This replica is basically a Fairchild Pt-19/26 firewall forward. 200 HP Ranger engine with the oil cooler mounted under the belly. Ranger Engines are smooth running and sound great. Pain in the butt if you have to pull a cylinder since the camshaft and housing have to be removed before you remove a cylinder. I owned a PT-26 for 36 years and did it more than once. I would love to fly this replica P-51! Lucky guy!

Talk about being a rush to fly. I would love to see if anybody ever built a P39 Aircobra ( tri gear ) kitplane..that would be very popular to build and fly... Taildragers..are tricky.. 🐦 ..

    • ask him what kind of powerplant. I remember development stalled on the F.E.W. 67% Mustang due to no suitable powerplant and they wanted an auto conversion. If one ever flew it was most likely with a conventional airplane powerplant and that must have looked hideous fitting that in the available space. Not sure if a customer airplane ever flew from the handful of kits that were delivered.

  • As a boy growing up in the farmland of North Central Nebraska we had a neighbor who had turned his big hip roof barn into the Garage Majhal of home Shops. He had been an actual Aircraft Mechanic in WW2 and worked almost exclusively on the Packard Powered Mustangs in England that flew bomber escort missions into Germany during the war. When he came home he poured most of his spare time into building Drag Racing Cars as a Hobby and also did some racing of his own. However it was in the late 60's that I got old enough to drive over and visit him daily after school so naturally I became like the Son he and his wife never could have. They had 3 Daughters that were all married and moved away to both coasts so I kinda got adopted. Anyway he had many old photos of the War and he kept telling me he was one day going to find a Packard /Merlin powered Mustang and buy it ....and he was a man of his word. He wound up buying a Fully Functional Mustang with the Packard Merlin engine from some country in South America, He and his wife flew down and actually got the Plane going and flew it all the way home making stops several places along the way of course to fix leaks, things breaking and what not but they landed on our little country crop duster grass air strip about 10 days after they left home. Then he called my folks and we all went to the airstrip about 9 miles from our home and my folks took his wife home and he had me fly the last little hop from there to their home. It wasnt really a 2 seater but he knew how to modify and move stuff so his little wife or me a 14 yr old skinny kid could ride quite comfortably behind his seat ...see he wasnt very tall either at 5'4" so it all worked out quite well. I spent the next nearly 2 years helping him rebuild and repair every little tiny piece of that plane and we got it right back to its original shape and colors....she was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and it ran so good and sounded amazing, there is no mistaking the sound of that 12 cylinder engine under power....man it will vibrate your innards standing 15 feet away from it..He took it to several air shows and flew it frequently then his wife passed from cancer and he seemed to loose all interest in life period. He sold the plane to some collector from Northern California who put it in several movies I was told by his one Daughter who lived out there but as to where its at today I don't have a clue but my name and his and the date we finished its rebuild is inside the cowl in yellow enamel paint. I wound up being in the will and inherited all the tools and shop equipment from Old Military Metal Lathe to bolt bins...from brass hammers to German and Swiss made measurement devices for measuring bore sizes etc. And every tool and piece of equipment in between that a man could ever want and I treasure them all....they are in my version of his Garage Majhal in my yard....I found out about 6 months later from the lawyer that the Daughters who each got a equal share of the sale of the Mustang had all gotten together had a meeting and took the money from the Mustang sale and even some of their own and pooled it to try and buy the Mustang back from the guy in California because they knew their Dad really wanted me to have it but wanted also to leave his Girls something too, so they decided since they were all quite well off from the sale of the farm and what they had already....that if successful they all voted to buy it back and give it to me believe it or not but the Collector in Cali wouldn't budge even though he was going to make a sizeable profit...he wasn't having any of it. So thats the God's truth of what happened to that Mustang....I've tried many times over the years since to at least track it down but no such luck. Last time I have any verification it still exists out there someplace it had transferred hands 3 times since the Old Man sold it to the guy in California, and then twice to people who have a lawyers office as an address so....what does that tell you.

Its not permanent but it works great temporarly. That way you don't get ant more water damage before you fix. Would not suggest while in motion.
