My daughter is the one in black and purple that fell off. Scary moment for sure. But so proud she got back on and finished. Thank you for this video.
That had to be a scary moment for sure! I think everyone was just glad she was OK. And having the courage to get back on was a bonus, too.

Some years back my wife and I were camping in the desert of the UAE. We were sat enjoying a morning coffee whilst taking in the surrounding dunes with the many camels grazing around our location. To our surprise a local lady in her abaya with a wide brim hat, atop the most beautiful Arabian horse appeared over a dune. She must have been headed for our location which had a large tree. Seeing us, she moved off some way and dismounted. She was soon joined by others in a vehicle. Knowing local sensitivities, I did not approach this party but watched as she allowed the horse to run free around our camp site. With a clap of her hands, the horse would return to her. As she was riding out she wished us a good morning and was gone over the dunes. The most memorable moment of our many years in the region.
Wow, that is such a cool story! I've never heard of anyone training a horse to come when the person claps. But Arabians are known for their intelligence, so it probably wasn't too hard to train it that way. Thanks for sharing!
Wow. What an unexpected but stunning experience.
@@druidriley3163 i'm sure all the rest of us wish we could've been there, too!
I am an Arab and I enjoy when others wear clothes that express Arab culture, they look great .. proud to be arab ❤️
That’s great to hear!
And then there's idiots who go on about cultural appropriation!
I am too, although only half Arab. I am very proud of my heritage. My Jidu and Situ came to this country in the early 1900s. They lived the American Dream, having four of five sons who all served in WWII, the other in Korea. All came home to live their dreams too. I am blessed. I am a horse owner of over 50 years; Arabians have always been my favorite. I've owned both full and half Arabians. I went to the Scottsdale show, one of the top shows for Arabians in the world, in 2000. It was glorious.
@@karenmahan6979 that’s a really cool story to hear!
Although, the costumes aren't all Arabians.

But were women really allowed to straddle horses back in those days? Not sure how true it is, but I was told that women, especially virgins, were instructed to ride side saddle throughout most of history to protect their chastity
@@qbconnect2883 that does bring up a good point but I'm not sure of the answer. But I don't think historical accuracy is the main objective here.
@@qbconnect2883 yes not all but many were even owning reputed horses in Arabia of course it was rare and most out of necessity such as the female knight khawla bint al azwar .

Finally a horse event that shows how majestic horses are without doing anything to abuse them. Congratulations to all the participants. 🤩🤩👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks!
What about those crazy shank bits?? 4:25, the horse even sticks it's tongue out in pure pain. How ist that not abuse??
@@anniw8444 horses stick their tongues out all the time when they are in no pain. It’s a horse thing that happens all the time.
@@anniw8444 @Anni W The horses sticking their tongue out and chewing are a natural habit. Them sticking their tongue out and chewing are actually used in training as a form of body language. It's a form of contentment. It also shows acceptance of things in ground training. Some horses also naturally tend to chew on/play with their bits more than others. I had a show mare who even played with a snaffle bit that way.
As a comment to cruelty of shank bits...while I'm not a fan of them, it is more important to notice the curb chain mechanism. The tighter the curb chain and the longer the shank, the harsher the bit is. Applied by uneducated and/or harsh hands, the more painful will be its effects on the horse's mouth and jaw. Even without a mouthpiece in a bit, e.g., mechanical hackamore, just the interaction between the long shanks and the curb chain, will be a harsh effect on the horse's jaw. A lot of long spanked curb bits do have a snaffle mouth as well as having a roller in the center for relieving stress. Go ride in a western pleasure or western equitation and in the stand up line and you'll hear the sound of crickets--horse's working the "cricket" to relieve stress, boredom, and/or pain. A lot of show jumpers and eventers use long spanked bits for control. It's hard to know where to start on all of these issues and to what degree where does cruelty--intentional or not--crosses the line. I personally have ever used a spade bit once--tradition in the stock horse training of the vaqueros which dictates that the horse be completely trained via a bosal (maybe made of rawhide?) a 2-3 yr process before the horse was moved the spade bit, whose objective was to remain neutral in the horse's mouth. The idea was that the rider used only neck reining for control of the horse. This was hard to by the old, slow way, rather to than yield to quicker, harsher more forceful methods. What a can of worms!! Anyhow, food for thought, no pun intended...
I like how in 2:08 the man is comforting the horse and giving it many nice pats! He is a gentleman for sure!
Yes, that was very nice how he did that. ❤️
Arabian horses are sensitive and has strong personality. You need to build a relationship with it to understand it. They are very smart and beautiful. Love it.
For sure!
I started attending the shows in Scottsdale in about 1967 when I was in grade school. One of my classmates and her grandfather showed their beautiful Arabians at these shows. Of all the classes, Native Costume was probably my favorite. As my friend and I got older, she was able to show in this class herself.

It is really interesting on how the bridles have changed since I first viewed them 20+ years ago. There used to be tassels on them. Back in the '90's, when I was a child at horse shows....I used to want to enter these classes, but the costumes were so expensive (even then) that I used to just make stuff for my own horses in a much more smaller scale. Tho my love has always been with Arabians, I switched from regular shows, to dressage and then to endurance. But I still love it all the same.
Very cool! I'm going to make a video soon about 10 fun facts about Arabian horses. One of them will be talking about Arabians being distance runners. Do you have any videos of distance races you might let me put into my video?

Merci! C’est exactement le but de cette chaîne !
I thought one of the trademarks of the breed was their efficient, low, desert skimming gate, rather than this high, weighted-gated Saddlebred look and also with their heads high and throat latch open without their chins forced down. Love the costumes. I just expected them to evoke the natural desert horse, when they moved.
The show has other classes more to your liking, i.e. hunter classes. But to be honest, the costume class is more popular.
Agree. They should move more naturally. The high stepping gaits would be hard on them in the desert. But, alas, like everything else mankind in arrogance thinks they can create better than God.
Arabians naturally have elevated, lofty gaits rather than low, ground-skimming gaits, but the emphasis is on "naturally"....these are definitely over-collected in the manner of the park/saddleseat breeds. Not nice to watch. The weird fake tail extensions are an eyesore as well.
@@tobleroonie5043 agree to disagree. Arabians do not have the high elevated gait. It is trained in them for 'park' classes, and they even use weighted shoes.
it also seems like all of these horses has had their already high tail tendon cut to make it even higher.. see how they swing to the side? it means the tail is basically broken.
Absolutely magnificent. Enjoyed watching this very much. Thanks, for adding the explanations as well.
Thanks for your kind words and you are welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
This is getting out of hand. The big lick folks wear fancy costumes as well. Im not suggesting they sore these Arabians in the same way but all of them seem distressed they're kept way behind the vertical not to mention the 5 inch shank bits the riders are exerting incredible forces with in the mouth of these majestic creatures and then at around 4 min there's a grey who's tongue is obviously protruding and is distressed but yes the garb was intricate and beautiful so that's important right and then that grey goes on to get second place?! 🥴
it is so upsetting.. and then the excuse “theyre treated super well since theyre show horses”.. like if you really cared about the welfare you wouldnt partake in any amount of abuse toward your animal
I agree with you. I love the beauty of the horses and costumes, but I couldn't get past those horrid bits. Why are these needed? Is it to get that upright neck and tucked nose? This is what always has turned me off about some horse show classes.
SMH none of these horses are hurt doing this. Some horses naturally lift their legs high and the bits are just for the elevation dressage people use them all the time there’s nothing wrong with them my horse practically puts the bit in herself she wouldn’t do that if it hurt
Totally agree! How is that not abuse?
You obviously know NOTHING about horses. Especially Arabians.
So colorful and beautiful!

When did they start stacking Arabians’ hooves the way American Saddlebreds hooves are? You can tell from the slo motion that the hit the ground in a very unnatural way. Too many so-called trainers abusing horses to get results when the are unable to train the horse.
They have been doing that with the Arabians for many years.
@@MagnificentHorses My Grandfather trained Arabians and I know he is rolling over in his grave. So sad
I thought so too. This os also probably the reason why they sit so far back on the horse. Poor horses. They deserve better.
@@hs477 The reason they sit so far back is because the saddles they use are designed for that. It’s to give the horses gait more action. Not saying it’s good or anything because I ride a forward seat saddle for jumping. I can’t imagine sitting that far back on a horse.
@@MagnificentHorses Thank you for your explaination. I think it's bad for the horse's back. In the old style riding for the dressage the horses moved their hoofes as high as theses do and the riders did sit not so far back.
#404 is my pick. ❤ The rider has the sparkly attire, and she rides the horse so beautifully. She looks like a real Arabian, as though she belongs in the movies riding across the sand. The horse she's riding has winning legs that go into the most longest and highest and most gracefully beautiful stride. In my humble opinion she's the winner. 🥇
Thanks for letting us know! I watched the whole video on my big screen TV but I could never pick out the number for #404. Can you describe the horse and the costume? I would be really interested to check it out.
@MagnificentHorses Yes, thank you for asking. On this video at the time 6:31 - 6:42 on the time stamp, she's riding on the outside rim. Dark sparking attire. The camera is right on her for those seconds. 👍☺️ I can't see her number in this video but I think I did see her in the 2023 video and that's where I got the number 404. Most likely she has a different number in this video of 2022? I can't see it here. But I watched the whole video here, 3 times and kept backing it up over that rider, and I just love the performance of both the rider and the horse and although the costume is dark it almost looks very movie- star-Arabian. To me she's a real winner. ☺️❤️👍

what i still dont understand is why arabian shows are looking more and more like saddle horse shows.
Hi Lynette, what do you mean about that? How did it used to be different?
@@MagnificentHorses i took this matter up with our arabian show committee here too,its just not looking like free movement anymore, meaning, legs moving forward and not high up,hence my comment about the saddlebred shows. I feel personally, just my opinion, that our arabs as majestic as they are, should be shown in natural movements/gaits. Their heads are coming up higher and the leg movements too.

Thank you! I switched saddles from a previous class and my cinch wasn't tight enough. But I went in the championship class and got top 10.😊
@@kaylee331 Sorry that happened to you but it’s great that you made the top 10!
Is it normal to keep your horses head SO far behind the vertical? Almost every horse in this class had protruding parotid glands indicating this happens constantly, riding a horse and keeping his head so far behind the vertical causes them to canter in this way bc their spinal vertebrae are compressed, it causes the shorter hind steps and giant front goose steps. Is this the primary look these shows are going for? 🤔
The action on many of those horses looks unnaturally high. An Arab should have a long and low action and I suspect that what is happening here is that the horses are being bent at the neck rather than being collected which will get the head down but with a curve in the neck. Another reason for the action is that they may have been trained to produce the high stepping action by the use of weighted shoes.
It's the way to choose that does it. Or at least the majority of it.
So very beautiful!!
Absolutely!
Watching them is amazingly soothing. Love it very beautiful! Kuddos to the lady who got up and finished.
Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! And yes, it was great to see that young lady get back in the saddle after falling off. They said the saddle came loose on her.
I wish the horsemanship was being taken into consideration as well. The dapple gray Arabian was regularly showing signs of pain :( I've spent alotta time with polish racing and show Arabians here in Poland and it was unacceptable to cause a horse so much discomfort.
You may have a better eye for that than I do because I didn't see any signs that the horse was in pain. What signs are you referring to that show it was in pain?
none of them were in pain, i've had many horses play with their tongues like that even in a hackamore
@@casdragon_5939 oh, that is what they must've been talking about. And yes, I've seen many horses chew on the bit or hang their tongue out when they're clearly not in any pain.
@@casdragon_5939tail swishing, open eyes and mouths. bits are designed to hurt them. definitely in pain.
Арабский костюм и .наездницы а нем красивы, но.... арабская лошадь так прекрасна , что все м е р к н е т перед ее красотой
Да, согласен полностью! Костюмы, безусловно, красивы, но не настолько, как арабские лошади!
I loved the show. So beautiful canter.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I inspired me to teach my stud to improve his canter.
That's great to hear! Glad it provided a little inspiration for you.
This is amazing! Is there any website that shows location, events, tickets … etc. I live in the valley and would love to come and watch such wonderful shows.
Thanks and I'm glad you like the video! Here is a website with info: www.scottsdaleshow.com/
Hate the nasty stacked and weighted shoes on some, the naturally shod are a much better, and more kind presentation of the breed. The slo-mo really shows in action how the weighted shoes tear up the horse's lower leg joints. But thank you for making and sharing this video, it's as close as I'll ever get to Scottsdale!!
The horses, costumes and riders are so beautiful, well made! I especially love the green and purple costumes! Those are gorgeous. :D The only thing detracting from this scene is the immense pain I see in their mouths. :
Thanks, I appreciate your comment.
Spoken like a nonequestrian..
Gorgeous ladies, costumes and horses❤
Yes to everything you said!
I ain't trying to be that person but I hate that they're not giving the horses their heads that looks painful. The one in purple seems to be the only one who is giving her horse it's head while riding.
Right or wrong that’s the way they’re supposed to do it so the horses look more flashy. I understand how you might not like it though.
Loved it ,but just a dumb ?. Did the groom put hair exstintions on their tails? I have seen many horse shows and I have not seen such long hair on 16 horses in one event. Thanks! Ok laugh! But don't judge! Ha! Ha!
The only dumb question is the one that’s not asked, right?😆 Up until this morning I thought those were extensions, but someone commented on another video from the Scottsdale Arabian horse show saying that extensions are not allowed in that show. So there you have it!
Been in showing for a while and as the op stated not allowed in this class. Arabians grow amazing manes and tails and rarely need extensions lol. The breed that uses fakes alot are quarters and paints in the western pleasure or halter class
@@meganwatts1903 Thanks for the info and good to hear a second source saying that the tails are not fake.
Arabians also hold their tails that high naturally. That’s one of the things I love about them! In the cruel practice with Tennessee Walking horses, “ the Big Lick” gaite competitions, their tail tendons are cut , then the tail is held high with the harness. People are trying to get “the Big Lick” made illegal . I know about it because I’m from Tennessee , and Tennessee Walking horse shows are common there, both the normal beautiful natural gaite and that horrible “big lick” gaite abomination.
@@teresahiggs4896 Thanks for the info. I had heard about cutting the tail tendons and I’m glad they don’t do that with Arabians. Definitely needs to be illegal for Tennessee walkers though.
Beautiful horses and beautiful riding
Thanks for the nice comment. It always amazes me when I go to that show how every single horse is gorgeous!
may Allah bless all the riders to show off in our middle eastern cloth ,made us all proud thank you 🙏
Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Love the outfits. Don’t quite understand what kind of tack is required. Some have double bridles some not. They all have those horrendous bits which arab horses don’t need. They listen no matter what.
I don't think there are any requirements for the tack. I'm not sure you can say that no Arabian horses require a stronger bit, though. You may be right, but I can't imagine that the owners or riders would use anything more aggressive than needed. And I don't see how the horses can be in pain from them because they would either stop or else start bucking if it were painful. That's how I look at it, anyway.
Agree abt the bits and tight head tuck!
