    • Yes, I certainly would. Many Western aircraft have had problems in the past, including Boeing, Lockheed, De havilland, McDonnell Douglas - the West has slated Russia and China since I can remember (I'm 63). However, things have changed and Russia and China should be proud of their achievements in the aviation sector. The Sukhoi Super Jet did suffer in the early days, but that seems to be properly sorted and since those events, there must have been thousands of uneventful flights, using the equipment. Let me say, I'm very fond of Russian people. Here, where I live, in Varna, Bulgaria, many Russians live here too and around 50% of Bulgarians support Russia, as a country - I do and I'm British. And just to add to that, before anyone accuses me of not knowing what I'm talking about, my wife is half Russian. As you rightly say, Josh, the only difficult thing relating to sanctions, is having to carry cash, but life in Russia, otherwise, is pretty good. I follow other YT channels of expats in Russia and they're all loving the country. Love your videos, keep up the good work Josh!

I started visiting Russia in 2011, every year excepting the two fist covid confination years. It's amazing the growth and progress in any field.

Growing up in Cold War/Reagan & Bush America, I was told a much different story of Russia and its people than what I found to be reality. Russia is one of the few places I have visited many times where every time the place has improved.

There are still some problems with smaller cities (although they improve rapidly as well) but Moscow and Saint Petersburg are just the two BEST cities in the whole of Europe and probably among the top-10 best in the whole world.

  • EXCELLENT video and commentary, Josh! It's definitely worth noting that in the Superjet's case, both crashes were due to pilot error and not attributed to any malfunction of the aircraft themselves. The denigration of technology other than Western is a long-standing thing; knowing statistics and the standards of production and testing in China and Russia in particular shouldn't lead to any hesitation in flying aboard their domestically-produced aircraft. I took multiple flights aboard old Soviet jetliners during the 1990s when Iived in Russia and never really had concerns about safety, despite everything that was being said in the West. Thanks for your great work!

According to the Wikipedia entry, it's been involved in 4 accidents, and at least 3 of them are entirely due to external causes, of which 2 are about pilots disregarding safety. And it's questionable if the fourth one has anything to with flaws in the plane itself. No, I'm not Russian. 😊

    • Easy: certification barriers to protect EU/US products. A plane consists not only of a fuselage and an engine. There are many systems inside that need to be checked and certified to allow a plane fly over other countries. So there's no sense to invent something from scratch for a plane and spend years waiting for certification. Everyone uses main modules from well known producers. So a SSJ-100 was the same. Russian body and interior with foreign engine and avionics. It's the shortcut to certification. Same for cars. Creating a product from zero takes time and your first one should not be as good as the one from the world's leader. But it can work

Don't you see how every his statement contradicts the other? It seems to me that people who listen to western mainstream media develop schizophrenia. Of course, we have problems after the sanctions, but they result only in higher prices for air tickets, because spare parts can be purchased in third countries through parallel imports and what about new planes - we build them. I have a lot of friends studying in different cities here, and I also did (graduated a year ago), and we all flew and still fly by planes. Except for the price, nothing has changed. The only time I had problems was when, due to hail in my city, I had to land in the neighboring one. And Josh's flight was canceled due to weather conditions too, because he decided to fly around Russia in the winter in -20°C - a very smart thing to do.

Since the grounding was lifted Southwest Airlines have flown over 312,000 flights which accounts for almost 1 million flight hours with no issues because the PILOTS know how to FLY an aircraft without all the “bells and whistles”, i.e. “computer flies the aircraft”. Isn’t in strange that the flight crews involved in the “deaths” were as young as 21? Pilot error was ultimately the cause of those deaths. Single Sensor MCAS, maybe bad design, but the pilots should have disabled MCAS and auto-trim and FLEW the plane. MCAS maintenance by the airline wasn’t performed after being written up in Lion Air crash and totally unprofessional piloting in Ethiopia’s crash. Disappointed in your comments.

    • @@smilesmite6682 My first time ever being slightly frustrated and not watching the entire Josh Cahill video... I have a soft spot for the Sukhoi Design Bureau and Josh Cahill so short-circuited...

    • @@Michael.Chapman ?? Yeah if u watched the whole video he literally went on a mini rant about western double standards in regards to Russian and Chinese aircraft while the 737MAX had all its issues but u didn’t bother to watch that.

    • @@smilesmite6682 that’s all great! However the first words out of Josh’s mouth were critical of Sukhoi-I switched off, that’s my prerogative.

    • @@Michael.Chapman Uhm it wasn’t critical at all it was an introduction to the video, meant to ask the question is this a good plane to fly, and then that question was answered later in the video, you are acting really childish about this I won’t lie.
