Making Incredibly REALISTIC BACON from Broccoli!! I'm bringing back the vegan bacon series with a bang!! Broccoli bacon!! I had this idea after I was reminiscing over some older videos and I was making dinner wondering how to prepare the broccoli and not waste the stems. I usually just cube them up and steam them with the rest of the broccoli but I thought I wonder if I could turn them into bacon... and Im so glad I tried!!

The advantage of using broccoli is that you can still honestly call it a BLT.
hahahah I dont know how I didnt catch that hahaah
😂
🧠💡
😂😂😂 haha thank you. You made me laugh
Simple charred broccoli is already amazing so I bet this is over the top!
Mary!!!! Yeah this came out pretty dang good!!! really happy with the results!
top 10 anime crossovers
Love to see my fave youtubers interacting!
Loved how you brought it back to your older style of video where you talk on camera more conversationally. Hope to see more of this!
BROCCOLI BACON!?! I'm so intrigued
MERLE!!!! It's really good!! I wouldn't cook it as long as I did but low and slow and keep flipping and it comes out awesome!
I’m gonna try this. Someone said to peel broccoli stems and eat them. I am now a freaking addict. It is so good. It really has as flavor of like a radish, but without the spiciness.
I love munching on the stalks! Not sure I want to give them up for a BLT!
love this as a 0 waste solution! broccoli stem can be discared but imagine making broccoli 'cheddar' soup with this bacon as a topper! perfect 👌🥦
Broccoli stem is basically kohlrabi (they are the same plant, but broccoli was selected for oversized florets, and kohlrabi for an oversized stem), and it's 100% edible (the peel is too tough to eat raw, though).
Whoa! What?? Don't discard the stems! If in doubt, then cut cross sections for stir fry or just boiling in soup for noodles. They absorb a lot of the surrounding flavour. I consider them to be the best part of the plant. The green stems and leaves of cauliflower should be treated as Chinese vegetables for stir fry.
You look great. I need to lose 20 lbs. 😂 Love your work.. thank you for all the animals you're saving by being a phenomenal influencer. You're the best!!
Thank you sooo much!!! And you got this!!
@@SauceStache What about a vegan beef steak for a steak sandwich?
I do tofu bacon. I use the typical "bacon" marinade, then dehydrate the tofu until its jerky. You can refrigerate it and eat it that way as a jerky snack or throw it in a pan with some oil and it's cooks into a really good bacon
Oh ive done that before and it comes out REALLY good!!! I like to toss a bit of water in the pan and steam it for a moment before I fry it!
If it's not too much to ask, can you post a recipe with measurements and what type of tofu you used? I tried something like that once (tofu marinated, dehydrated). It was incredibly umami. Way way too much umami. Even though I liked the marinade plain. Never tried something like that again. But it might be time to give it another chance.
I looked at the thumbnail twice cuz I couldn’t recognize you lol . Hell yeah bro 🎉
Wild!! thank you!! I appreciate that!!
@@SauceStache LOL! I just subscribed to your channel this morning... made Seitan (third method), and then while it is on the stove simmering, came back to see what else you have and I ALSO looked at the thumbnail twice! Thought I was on "that other guy's" channel. LOL
Anyone who can make broccoli appealing to kids deserve a standing ovation 👏🏼
Haven't watched this channel in a bit. This guy looks fantastic. I mean, he never looked BAD, but he looks fit as hell. Obviously taking great care of himself. Way to go!
Thank you so much!!! ITs been a journey!!
People would be surprised what one can turn into "bacon". I fried a mixture of chickpeas and kidney beans chopped in a food processor and it came out like bacon bits.
Your videos are awesome keep them up!
Love the older style video! Bring it back full time!
looks really good but did you ever tell her what its made of? 😭
WOW, AMAZING 👍🏾 CONGRATS ON THE SLIM DOWN VERY ENCOURAGING BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR WIFE 😇🙏🏽
your creativity is so inspiring
Woah you are looking sharp man
Thank you so much!!!!
One of my favroite side dishes recently is brocolli tossed in avocado oil with indian spices like garam masala and turmeric and roasted in an oven. Super simple and tasty and healthy. Will definitely try this recipe.
That sounds awesome!!! I need to try it
I roast mine with a mix of salt, pepper, garlic and msg. Like you say healthy and tasty
Very cool idea. Going to give this a try, thank you.
Yes!!!! The bacUn series is back!!! Awesome that Monica couldn’t tell it was broccoli!
Wow, that looks fantastic.
MY MAAAAAAN!
MY MAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!
😂😂😂
I love snacking on the broccoli stems. They've twice the nutrients that the flowery part does too. This is a total win!
I found this channel back in the original bacon days. While I'm not a vegetarian I really enjoyed making carrot bacon and have done so several times. Lesser success with other veggies but I tried a few. Glad to see the return to bacon. --- I'd be curious to see a couple things in that lane. - One - The effect of salting/sitting the veggie slices. My experiments with this really depended on the veg I started with but helped draw in more marinade (and therefor flavor) as well as give that appropriate chew texture. - Two - Some experiments with different marinades. Perhaps a baseline mix and then additions for different flavor profiles. - Side note: I found that Marmite and Maggi really helped give depth to the umami.
I’ll definitely be trying this !
Really enjoyed the old style video!
LOL @ the "you're a snack" at the very end. Awesome show as always.
I laughed at that too, they are very sweet together.
I always discarded that part, now you made it interesting, I'll certainly do it.
Seeing the difference again, i just have to say you look awesome man. Lost 20 kg over the last year myself. So mad respect for the change! 💪
Thanks for the video! If you wanted to tackle a recipe I think would get a lot of views, I'd love to see a Upton's Natural's Chorizo seitan copykat. The ingredients are only Water, vital wheat gluten, soy sauce (water, wheat, soybeans, salt), apple cider vinegar, garlic, guajillo, sea salt, onion, cumin, black pepper But it's also got a really great texture. I haven't been able to quite figure out how they make it, so I'd appreciate if you gave it a shot!
I already love broccoli stems and this is one more way to enjoy them, especially with friends who may be dubious about them.
What an amazing idea!! I can imagine this must taste super good! I just love how sophisticated Monica always reviews and describes the flavor profile of your recipes.
Love how when first discussing the choice of broccoli, you don't seem sure if the stems are edible, LOL! Yes, they're the best part in stir fries, but bacon, I dunno. Am tempted to give it a try. Thanks for posting 🙂
I've made carrot bacon a few times and it's like playing golf...I'm terrible at it, but about 2% of the time I get it just right and it makes me want to try again.
You look amazing my friend! Keep up the great work! #wholefoods #plantbasefoods
wow, now I know what to do with broccoli stocks, thank you
Yesss! A new bacon video. Going the nostalgia route on us saucy veterans. 😁
I always put the stalks in soup but seeing this I might actually try it. You could even serve it with broccoli soup to get an extra texture, together with some vegan onion cream substitute from chefsteps
This is Awesome, I must try it, it did look a little burnt but which do you like best brocolli or carrot bacon. I must make this one🥰
I think its a toss up between the two really!! But I really liked this one a lot!!
do you think dehydrating the strips then reconstituting them in the marinade might work better?
I make a lot of banana bacon as I get free bananas from work. One thing I do before marinading them is to soak the depithed skins in brine. I know it's not good for you because of the latex allergy but it really does work.
Put some tofu and/or daikon strips in between two sheets of rice paper. Best of both worlds.
Thats not a bad idea!
You're a constant inspiration! Unfortunately it's 23:00 now and I have no broccoli in the fridge :( oh well... tomorrow is a vegan bacon day! :D
Brings back all the memories, just so nostalgic! I remember all the plant-based bacon experiments and it was always so interesting to watch - and still is! I am always impressed with your creativity and techniques. And I must say, having watched over the years I think they only went up, just as your ease in front of the camera and video quality! I am really curious about other ideas you have! . Anyways, hoping you're having a great week so far! Lots of love for you and Monica ;)
Video request: Layered seitan. I'm experimenting right now with layered seitan (like the dough for croissants is made). Seitan in food processor until it becomes really strange and stretchy (so far a recipe essentially from "awesome vegan dad"). Then I role it thin, put a thin layer of something on it, fold it up and repeat until I get the number of layers I want. I tried various combinations of oil, nutritional yeast, cooked red lentils puree and water with psyllium husk so far. All came out very different. Nothing bad. All tasty in their own way but all with room for improvement. Lately I thought about using carrot puree (just because of nutritional aspects). I think you might have the better experience with getting ideas to work and perfecting a recipe. Aby chance you might try that? Or does anyone know a good recipe. I tried to google it, but couldn't find one.
I noticed you didn't actually say "cheers" when you tapped the broccoli bacon at the beginning, but you did make the gesture. You said "cheers" before the sandwich, which is great, but there was no tap of the sandwiches. Remember, there needs to be at least two audible "cheers" (with taps) during the video
If that is your medium size whisk, I want to see your small whisk 😄
Hello. Which one did Monica like better…pan or air fried? Thank you 😊
She liked the pan fried better!
Hey, it's bracon! It looks good!
Did I miss Monica’s reaction when you told her what it was made of, or was it revealed off-camera? I love seeing her responses to the end results of your recipes!
Just wanted to say you're looking great! Thanks for the awesome videos and encouragement!
Thank you so much!!!
I love this idea!! Usually i feel forced to make soup with the broccoli stems because i don't want to throw them away and we don't like eating them any other way. BTW The bulb hanging over your head during the taste test looked comically like you had a cartoonish idea the whole time. 😂
bwhahah I just had to go back and look!! hahah thats hysterical. Yeah now I might save them and make bacony flavored broccoli chips with them!!
You guys would be the best ever Neighbors haha
have you made the wheat starch bacon?
Congrats on the weight loss you look great man
Letting the cut broccoli strips sit for 40 minutes or longer to marinate will also help create sulforaphane. The precursor chemical in broccoli necessary to make sulfouraphane (glucoraphanin mixes with an enzyme in humans called myrosinase to create sulforaphane) is destroyed during heating and cooking broccoli, preventing sulforaphane. However, cutting up broccoli before cooking creates sulforaphane, which itself is apparently not destroyed by heating and cooking.
I'd love to see Monica's reaction to finding out it was broccoli 😆
6:42 Ok,the camera is lying. Good, ngl, I was worried you were eating broccoli bacon flavored Charcoal. 😂
More bacon !!! Haha yes!
More bacon is coming!!!
Respectfully I am certain your sauce is excellent. Can you recommend a more affordable product? I am on a budget.
I just made a Broccoli Ice Cream. Used cow milk, i'd love to see a vegan milk version!
Had a bacon idea - try potato starch and glutenous rice flour for the crispiness and chewiness? Not sure if it would work
😂😂😂😂 "You're a snack"
I wanted her reaction when you said it's broccoli 😂
Lookin hard dude, I’d think twice before starting a fight with you.
Hi Mark, did you end up telling Monica that the Facon Bacon was made out of broccolli? I don't recall that it was captured on video, I was hoping to see her reaction when she discovered what it was.
lol Did Monica ever guess what it was? Did you finally let her know. She's so very trusting. 😁
Oh my god I just realized you can still call it a BLT because it has "Broccoli" Lettuce Tomato lol
👍👍👍👍👍
It matched your t shirts l😆
Sauce Stache THE Veritable Vegan Alchemist! Keep on Cookin'. I wonder if two thin layers of the broccoli could sandwich a thin layer of tofu to add protein?
I make this aioli all the time
Finally! Bacon! Thank you!😁 I didn't know you had other fakin Bacons.
You didn't let us see her reaction when you told her it was broccoli!! hahaha
You made smoked watermelon like "ham" roast. I whiner if watermelon bacon would be possible? 🤔 Prob not, I'm almost 100% certain, but it's an idea. Looking forward to more facon videos. Ironically, I ended up subscribing to this channel after binging your facon videos back in the day.
In this next episode Sauce Stache turns Monica into bacon
It looks extremely burnt though! I don't think it could be more charred if the house was on fire. Also funny that it's supposed to taste like bacon, and her first guess is a Carrot! XD
I really admire your creativity - whenever I try your recipes they are always good. I prefer broccoli stems to the top anyway, so I'll give this a try.
I was waiting to see her reaction when you told her it’s broccoli 🥦 did I miss it or was it cut?
Medium sized whisk. Indeed, I would even say that's kinda big.
Do BFV tray bacon, gMe changing....with beet juice
He kinda reminds me of Walter White from Breaking Bad, the difference is he’s a scientist in the kitchen 😮
Did you make banana peel bacon yet? I saw another creator make it, it looked promising..
Yeah!!! It comes out pretty good!! my favorite is still daikon! omg I just looked and this video is 5 years old hah kzhead.info/sun/fZmscrSfq2hvY3k/bejne.htmlsi=8Sue44UaMVkVX91J
@@SauceStache thank you! I love bacon but hate eating animals. I'll have to try making some fake bacon. Love your content AND that you actually interact with viewers. You're a good guy!
That tomato must of been f-ing huge!
Is it a carrot? LoL I'm going to use that. ❤
You forgot to season the tomatos!
Did you ever tell Monica what it was?
Have you tried the hooray bacon recipe?
this is the healthiest way, of eating bacon
Bringing home the bacon again? 😁
I call broccoli stem poor man's artichoke. Because it's delicious and true and sounds ridiculous
Can I give up yummy raw stalk munching for a BLT? If my tomatoes actually produce this year, I'll give it a try!
I'm paying for youtube premium but this content still contains a few minutes of ads. Luckily, I can fast forward through them. WTG youtube. Not.
Yeah, youtube premium only removes the skippable ads from google. Is this the first you are seeing this? Content can still be sponsored, just like watching TV when there is baked in product placements. Its wild to me as a content creator getting comments like these. I watch loads of creators and 99% of them have sponsored segments, some like phillip defranco has 2-3 and I never once feel the urgency or the need to skip the ad or be so rude to leave a comment about it. LIke beyond being negative what do you think you are accomplishing by posting that comment?
@@SauceStache I'm not trying to be negative. It is extremely annoying. I actually like your videos. But now, bye. You didn't have to sass me, I did not sass you, I am annoyed at youtube. You're obviously a bully.
@@SauceStache 📛
wait, did you ever tell her it's broccoli?
I was wondering the same thing
Broccan...
It looks kinda burnt, no?
bro u gotta use the hand guard
😖You didn't tell Monica what it was made out of; on camera... I wanted to see her reaction of it being broccoli 🥦
But you need a pig to make bacon! Now you got that comment 😉 If you let a pig taste approve the broccoli bacon, then you have used a pig to make bacon😂 More seriously, I think the stem is the best part of the broccoli.
