Here I show two methods to properly fix a leaking bonded van window.
Firstly, the best method of removing the window and re-attaching it.
Secondly adding in silicone to fix, but in a way that won't cause a mess.
Enjoy!

  • Why is it that that our friends from across the pond always have a better way of explaining things? No silly dialogue, no dogs barking in the background, just sharing experiences. I guess from America I would say, brilliant!

  • I also think that leaving a 1" gap ( no sealant ) on the bottom ( also create a fall towards the gap ) to let condensation that forms on the inside run out to the outside instead of pooling between the rubber and sealant. I've never seen anyone doing this but it makes sense to me. I had a feeling after watching your previous video that your windows may leak but hey, it's all a learning curve and at least you did it in the end, well done 👍 Oh' also, many folk would probably never have mentioned the leaks or made an update video on how to fix 🥇🏆 I'll sub because I admire that 👍

  • Brilliant video, you didn’t have to post this but you’ve shown up a common problem that I’m sure happens a lot and the solution, thank you

  • Put the silicone unopened in a bucket of warm water for 30 mins before using it. This will soften it up and make it easier to inject.

  • Sorry to see you had leaks, but it did not surprise me. It was s a rough job in the first place. We all learn by our mistakes.

  • I also had a leak on my driver's side tinted window and I didn't even fit them. Apparently a good tip is to run a double parallel bead before fitting. Also the time of year does play a part, the colder it is outside the less chance you have of the sealant curing. If it is below 10 degrees Celsius when fitting the sealing tubes can be placed in a bucket of warm water prior to fitting. DIY pop top roof now that is brave indeed. 👍

    • I think the double parallel is a good idea, the tiniest of pin holes and the water will run over and find it

  • Thanks! Where did you find the cutting wire? And did you re-apply any primer to glass or door?

    • I bought it on amazon. Look on ebay or amazon and get a kit with handles. My bond is primerless, but a lot aren't, so yes re-apply if the adhesive requires it.

  • Thanks for this ! Is the bendy straw just taped on to a nozzle or pushed through ? Wondering how it didn’t pop off and guessing the sealant was warmed first so it came out easier ?

    @twinter@twinter3 жыл бұрын
    • Just duct taped on, seemed to work fine! and nope, no heating of the sealant

  • Hi George, Will the white spirit remove an adhesive/sealant too? I’m having this problem at the moment, I was thinking of using the sealant on the outside first, then try removing the window if the problem still occurs, what’s your opinion? Thanks, Ben

    @benjamintom2154@benjamintom21543 жыл бұрын
    • Yes you can get the window off if you try sealant, it's a bit more work to clean up but still possible!

  • I've just fitted mine and not tested if they leak yet but already checking what to do to fix it ha ha..... I notice when you removed your old window that you hadn't used a black primer on the body? did you use regular silicone to fit them?

    @robhamilton5057@robhamilton5057 Жыл бұрын
    • Some kits have primer some don't, best to follow kit instructions. Mine didn't and on refitting properly has been leak free. Definitely don't use normal silicone!
