    • @@mromneyobama Just wait in two more years from now! The 2024 Final Four will be just like it was before COVID. sold out massless 75,000 screaming fans, and Basketball will be as important as it was pre-COVID. And also yeah it could be an all Tobacco Road Final Four Duke, Carolina, NC State, and Wake Forest you never know. But I doubt that seriously. I wouldn’t even bet a dime on that. What would have to happen is the rest of the coaches aside from Hubert Davis (Jon Scheyer, Kevin Keatts, and Steve Forbes) would have to prove to America they are the greatest basketball coaches in America that year. They would have to pull a Tony Bennett what he did in 2019 at Virginia. Hubert Davis is a great coach he’s proven himself after Roy Williams left. He may not have won the national championship but he certainly did make it there in his first year which is nothing short of amazing however the other coaches would have to do the same thing. Kevin Keatts would have to win this coming year, and clean up what he lost his. He would have to prove himself better with The Wolfpack then what he just went through at State this past year. Steve Forbes had a great season at Wake Forest. But he is going to have to keep that up moving forward. He went to the NIT he should’ve been in March Madness. He had some good players they were not Naismiths but they were good. I’m not saying he was Chris Paul or Tim Duncan but Steve Forbes had Alondes Williams, and Jake LaRavia. They weren’t Naismith players or Gonzaga players or Purdue players but they were great! But guess how Alondes, and Jake got to Wake Forest? The portal! That’s how. Wake Forest needs to schedule some tougher teams to play early on in order to earn their off March Madness bubble but he’s a good coach. Duke after Coach K left has to restore their legacy they have to continue the same legacy I hate Duke I always did of course but I will say Coach K is going to have to teach his new coach he turned it over to Jon Scheyer that he is going to have to continue the legacy at Cameron Indoor. He is going to have to live up to the same energy with the crazies he’s going to have to win the same amount of games it’s going to have to continue he’s going to ask you to continue Krzyzewski‘s legacy at Duke. Whereas the rest of the 64 teams that March Madness year would be good teams on the court but obviously not as good as the four North Carolina ACC teams. Some crazy stuff happens in March I doubt this will happen but you just never know. March is very unpredictable. The transfer portal makes it even more unpredictable. I believe that’s why the Cinderella peacocks ended up where they ended up this past year it’s because of the portal. They brought in some players that surprised us. As a result Saint peters won their conference. It was almost an accident it was almost accidental I think that the transfer portal really created a monster for college hoops. Just look at Brady Manek at North Carolina he came from Oklahoma look what he did at Carolina? And the rest is history. This game wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for him he’s a big reason he’s not entirely but Brady Manek really contributed big time. Of-course other people like Armando Bacot, RJ Davis, Caleb Love, Dontrez Styles, and even Puff Johnson for that matter contributed. We have a new guy he transferred it’s awesome Pete Nance. He’s going to fill in for Brady Manek next year. I’m telling you the portal to quote “Forrest Gump” is “Like a box of chocolates.” “You never know” the outcome of these players once they enter the portal. They could end up being really really talented taking your team to March Madness. I never really liked the one, and done deal but I really do like this transfer portal, though. It seems to be working out for teams. The portal could be for anybody anybody for any team could transfer anywhere if they wanted to that’s the beauty of the portal. That’s college basketball’s new normal the portal is actually a deal. No I’m serious it’s an opportunity for student athletes I mean I’m being honest it’s actually cool that they could go play for other teams. It’s almost like players trading to other teams in the NBA except they’re in college. My point is the transfer portal will bring some crazy things to college basketball. So we never know how good these teams will end up becoming thanks to the portal. But it’s a beautiful thing. I mean somebody if they really wanted to could go from for example Ohio State if they wanted to transfer to a “third-fiddle” school to play basketball for a small school for a smaller team like Liberty for example they could if they really wanted to. It’s actually a pretty cool opportunity for student athletes!

      @Gonzoweirdo1@Gonzoweirdo1 Жыл бұрын
    • @@mromneyobama Even a Liberty University basketball player could transfer through the portal to a blue-chip program like Kansas. Perhaps the best-known bluechip teams include all the blue-chip programs that we last saw this past year Duke, and Carolina, of-course, Villanova, and Kansas. Others also include Kentucky, I guess Georgetown might be considered a blue-chip program, as well as maybe, just maybe Ohio State, and maybe, just maybe even Louisville maybe for that matter. (They had Rick Pitino). I guess Syracuse might be one also maybe even just maybe Michigan State well they have a good coach. I mean Tom Izzo is no fly by night. Oh I mean he’s for real. He’s actually a very very good coach he’s excellent. No there are more than just a few blue chip programs there are not tons but there are several. So those are the main blue-chip programs of basketball. Unless maybe it’s Michigan. Remember The fab five? That was with Jalen Rose from 1993. Coach Howard was also one of the fab 4. Yeah they were fun to watch. North Carolina beat them. They went near undefeated. That is when Michigan University had Steve Fisher. Steve Fisher only lost like 4 games that whole year. North Carolina had Donald Williams, and, of-course Dean Smith was the Coach. That story never gets old. Dean Smith ended up winning The National Championship in 1993. Jerry Stackhouse was also on that team. No matter how many times you hear that story if you’re an ACC basketball fan it never gets old. Especially if you grew up watching Carolina basketball most people remember that 1993 team who ended up facing Michigan Monday night. It’s funny because everybody thought Michigan would win they were wrong. Michigan was favored to win by 15 points. North Carolina thumped them. Everybody thought the fab five would end up winning. But North Carolina had a fairytale run that year. Dean Smith only won one other national title that was of course with we all know who you know who MJ of course. But then he won in 1993. But he came in second or had made it to the elite eight multiple other times. Perhaps his signature win was in 1997 after he beat was it Colorado State? That was in Winston-Salem. That was when he broke the record. He broke Adolph Rupp’s record for the most wins. Some of my absolute most favorite coaches include Dean Smith, John Wooten, Bobby Knight, Roy Williams, John Calipari, and Bill Self. Perhaps one of my favorite players from North Carolina was Tyler Hansbrough Psycho-T! He was a white boy from North Carolina who played for Roy in his second year. The stat I liked about him is When he handled the ball he knew how to jump high he was a high jumper people forget how high Tyler Hansbrough actually could jump he could go to the rim, and he could actually run all over the court, and he knew how to fly high in the air, and dunk the basketball. He had a leap at the time but not too many white boys at the time could physically do at the time. Tyler Hansbrough was awesome! He was a freak. His jersey is hanging in the rafters at the dean dome in chapel hill. He played for the Indiana Pacers at one point. One of my most favorite March Madness games in recent memory was when Virginia lost to number 16 UMBC that was pretty cool. I also remember when North Carolina had the redemption in 2017 after losing the year before to Villanova they came back in Phoenix, Arizona, and beat Gonzaga as Roy won his last National Championship. Who knew? Luke Maye sent them to that year’s final four. I also like players like Bill Walton, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, and Pete Maravich but they came early on. Larry Bird was just a blue-collar person from rural Indiana who played college at Indiana State. He made himself into a name. Perhaps he was one of the greatest white boys the sport had ever seen ever in history as Earvin “Magic” Johnson became his arch-rival. And Jim Valvano’s story at NC State. “Never Give Up. Don’t Ever Give Up.” Who could forget Jim Valvano’s iconic hug at The Palace? And Pandemonium in The Astrodome. Those were early but they are still fun to learn about in history. They were early basketball things but they never get old to study. They were not the modern game but I enjoy studying that history. Have you ever heard of “The Tall Firs?” They played for Oregon early on. I enjoy studying the history of March Madness. Besides, Steph Curry who just won the NBA finals with Golden State congrats to them again played for Davidson. He literally could shoot from anywhere on the court I mean anywhere! The perfect example occurred in a March Madness game at Ford Field against Wisconsin in ‘08 after Davidson defeated a hungry Gonzaga team in Raleigh they advanced he was consistent in Raleigh all over the court as well as all over the court in Detroit winning to Wisconsin with a final score of 56 to 73 sending the Badgers home with a 17 point loss in the second round. He was perhaps the best shooter in 2008 he was named MVP for his consistent three-pointer shooting average. Others in history also included Oscar “The Big O” Robinson, and Larry Brown as well as Phil Ford, and Clyde Drexler. Also, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played for UCLA. Who could forget Christian Laettner “the shot” at Duke against Kentucky in 1992? That was perhaps the greatest ever one of them ever. Perhaps the greatest game happened of all time changed the modern game as we know it today when the North Carolina State Wolfpack lead in an ACC tournament game with a six-point win over Maryland. The Terrapins shot only 61 percent during that game. That when they had David Thompson. Norm Sloan was the head coach at NC State that year.

    • @@mromneyobama All these March Madness stories rock! UMBC versus Virginia was awesome! Ryan Odom was head coach of The Retrievers in what was then (until Saint peters this year) at the time a nobody for The Golden Retrievers. Unfortunately the next day they lost to Kansas State. I also remember in 2007 The Eastern Kentucky North Carolina March Madness game. As well as the UCF Duke game. The Eastern Kentucky North Carolina game was great also! Tyler Hansbrough had his mask on after being hit in the nose by Gerald Henderson against Duke. Eastern Kentucky was also a number 16 seed. They had a great player named Julian Mascoll. He was really really good! Eastern Kentucky had a run there in the game for a little while. At one point it could have indeed gone the way of The UMBC Virginia game in 2018 it could’ve gone that way indeed at one point in the game because a consistent Mascoll scored 8 points making it a four point game 44 to 48 in the second half. Indeed, Eastern Kentucky could have been a Cinderella indeed. Indeed they would have played Michigan State the next day in Winston-Salem. That would have indeed been a Cinderella story at the time. That would have indeed made Eastern Kentucky a household name the time. Roy Williams was frustrated. The problem is North Carolina is really hard to defeat. That is especially true if North Carolina is playing on their home turf although they did get beat in Charlotte the same year UMBC beat Virginia in 2018. Wayne Ellington was on North Carolina’s team also as well as Marcus Ginyard. And so was Brandon Wright, and Reyshawn Terry. In the end the final score was North Carolina 86 Eastern Kentucky 65. Billy Gillispie was the head coach of Eastern Kentucky. North Carolina was the number one seed just like Virginia was in 2018 so Roy Williams was the head coach of North Carolina after winning the 2005 national championship he was about Tony Bennett’s age at the time Tony Bennett was coaching against UMBC maybe a little older. Keep in mind that was 2007 that was a long time ago. Billy Gillispie was a no joke of a coach! No he was serious business. He was no fluke. Billy Gillispie was serious. That classic was in Winston-Salem. That game really stood out it still stands out to this day. Of-course, the Duke UCF game was like Virginia versus UMBC. That’s when Zion played for Duke. Tacko Fall played for UCF. He was 7 foot 6. That happened in Columbia, South Carolina. UCF almost pulled it out but Duke won at the buzzer.

That slow start when tip happened set the tone. You look at their history in that building. North Carolina in New Orleans is like Duke in Indianapolis. Same thing the cards weren’t in our favor. I knew something crazy was probably gonna happen. I couldn’t watch it my anxiety was so bad.

Duke versus Carolina in College Basketball is the greatest rivalry of any sport in the whole entire world! No rivalry can match Duke versus Carolina that’s a fact. Nothing I mean zero. It’s as good as some of the great sporting traditions like the Masters in Golf, The Ryder Cup, the cricket World Cup, The Kentucky Derby, The US Open in Golf, The NBA finals, and Wimbledon. The Duke Carolina rivalry game is one of the great traditions in all of sports, really. It’s more than just a rivalry. It’s more than just a very large sporting event it’s a tradition.

He'll point to the spot on the left wing and say "right here is where Mike Jordan became Michael Jordan and hit the game-winner against Georgetown in '82." Then he'll walk over on the right side beyond the 3 point line and say "here's where Walter Davis completed the 8 points in 17 seconds." Finally, he'll walk to the top of the key, point down to the spot, and say "right here is where Caleb Love retired Koach Kay."

  • When you talk about some of the great games, and some of the greatest moments in all of sports of all time, what comes to mind include Tiger Woods winning The FedEx cup at East Lake in 2019 as nobody would thought that would never happen again when the crowd was walking up the 18th winning his 80th before he won two more including The 2019 Masters, and The 2019 Zozo when he tied Sam Snead’s record, the Ryder Cup in 1999 at Brookline when Justin Leonard made the putt to win it for The United States against Europe, when Muhammad Ali crushed George Foreman in boxing, Super Bowl XLIX, Jim Valvano making it all the way to win it all in the 1980s, the 2005 National championship in college football when Texas beat USC, The 1996 Women’s all around gymnastics in Atlanta during the Olympics when the games came here to The United States that year to Atlanta when The Magnificent Seven gymnastics team beat Romania, Michael Phelps winning the gold medal in swimming in Beijing in ‘08 at that Olympics, The miracle on ice hockey game in the winter Olympics in upstate New York in the 1980s, when Secretariat the horse won the Triple Crown, The Chicago Bulls winning the NBA championship in the 1990s with Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, and Scottie Pippen, The Yankees vs. The Diamondbacks 2001 World Series, Tiger Woods’ 1997 Masters win, Mark McGwire versus Sammy Sosa’s home run records broken in the 90s, The Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup game, Brian Boitano Wins 'Battle of the Brians' at 1988 Calgary Games, The 2002 World Cup Soccer Match South Korea vs. Japan, and Pete Sampras v Agassi The 2001 US Open Quarter Final of tennis. This one would arguably be right in there with all of those. This game will live in infamy. It will be talked about 100 years from now. Coach K in his last game against The blue bloods after a year of a Global pandemic that struck planet earth making hundreds of millions of people across the world sick, hospitalized, and killing millions all over the world for many months canceling it the year before the last moving it to one city inside a bubble in Indianapolis a year prior to getting out of it gradually as life was gradually getting back to normal after lockdowns, etc., two of the best blueblood programs only less than 10 miles down the road from each-other Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Durham, North Carolina across town basically in one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports playing to go to the national championship ending Coach K’s career one of the greatest coaches ever after 42 years with A Cinderella in front of them St. Peters who probably should have made the NIT honestly who Americans fell in love with nobody knew who they were until this tournament in the peacocks Not even basketball fans not even avid basketball fans fell in love with them who made it to the semi finals beating them in Philadelphia as Carolina thumped them with coach Hubert Davis making it all the way in his first year to the national championship game making a run against Kansas as Roy Williams who has won three retired the year before after he beat Coach K in Duke already he want it again after fans were tired they underestimated Hubert they thought he was one of the worst coaches in the ACC which is not saying very much after one game he lost on the bus drive home he told his players I’m not going to credit the team they played against but after they lost to them, Hubert really thought about it. They worked hard to get there. They didn’t win the whole thing but it paid off what they did this past year they accomplished a lot they met those challenges. The Tar Heels met the challenges. I know that Carolina did not win it all but this game was special. It’s historic. This game will be talked about for years to come. It will go down in history. This game will live in infamy.

Not only winning AT Duke when they were having a go away party, but then to beat them again on the biggest stage in K's last game. Eternal bragging rights for beating them twice, both times as an underdog in a season where Duke could have sent K off into the sunset.
