  • The scene where Julia returns in Fallout and the following exchange is one of the best scenes in the entire franchise. It's so unexpected and unlooked for that it jolts you into attention. And then the "friendly" exchange afterwards where Julia realizes that the reason he's here is because something horrible is about to go down in an incredible showcase of showing emotion without explaining it.

  • 17:35 I remember watching this in theaters in 96’ the entire audience was so into it they were dead quiet during the computer room heist scene, worried their loud voice would set off the alarm. The movie was that engrossing. And that theme song was so iconic and cool , after the movie I wanted to be a spy so badly, I put binoculars in backpack and snuck around my neighbors backyards and started “spying”.

  • Best thing to ever happened to me was my parents bringing me to see Mission Impossible 5 in theatres. I wasn’t a MI fan or even knew about it until I saw the fifth one. Everything about it was so goddamn amazing, the opening, the MI theme song, the action, the music, the story, everything just works if it was your first MI flick and it was only followed by fallout. That was truly when this franchise peaked.

  • Tom Cruise is absolutely INCREDIBLE. Not just for these gorgeous, intricate stunts but for his discipline, worth ethic, and passion for filmmaking and the fans of movies. He is one of a kind and we are all so lucky to watch him on screen! There is no question about how justified and right he was to (kindly) raise his voice…he was funding the project, paying for the crew who broke rules thus endangering the entire production and the rest of the folks on set. He had every right to lose his cool… which he still did so with absolute respect for the set and those around him. He’s the man ❤

Also, I really wish Jane got to come back she was an excellent addition to the team while exuding this great earnestness and I liked the way she and Ethan played off each other (Also her kicking that woman out the window was amazing). It also made me wonder why we never see Paula in more films like this. edit: I forgot to add, I just came across this video, I love people enthusiastically talking me through films. Paramount called up Marvel and told them, As the legend goes... "Tom would be unhappy" if this went out. The panel was changed and a new print run was issued. There is a hand full out in the wild. Again great Retrospective and it makes me want to go back and see these again.

They are certainly intense and that can unsettle people, but they are passionate about what they do, and Tom Cruise is just living his life. We need to separate celebrities' personal lives from their crafts. Or we'd set unrealistic expectations for people that we don't even set for ourselves.

  • As a Norwegian, my favorite consequence of this franchise has been Norway's obsession with the movie. Still now, years later we see headlines like "Tom Cruise flew over this village during filming!". A cafe near pulpit rock changed the name of the 'bolle' pastry into a new treat called "Mission Impossi-bolle". They even hosted a screening of the movie ON pulpit rock. You'd think a god visited the place, but no we're just starstruck over Tom Cruise.

  • mission: impossible is arguably (maybe even objectivly) the greatest action film saga there is. i got into it few months ago, and with Fallout, i - not hope - but *believe* dead reckoning will somehow - against all odds - _burn out the fuse_ with a bang! but while there's still a waiting period before release, your retrospective likely rekindled the exitement! i like your enthusiastic but straightforward approach, and the helpful information of the trails and tribulations the filmskers had to go though with the production each film (phew); especially with how you presented each film topping the last: it feel impossible that the next installment can outpreform the last, but then throwing our assumtions out the window, every time. and i appericiate how you translated that feeling into words, it kept it engaging. the twist with the conclusion was clever. i was expecting a boring sponser segment, but it's really just giving credit and thanks to the source material. thank you for the dreadful time it must've took to write, voice, and edit this - and you my friend for taking time to read! (i did ramble too long, and despite that i still wanted to add few more things) good luck to your future endeavours, Prime! or... you're future *missions,* _should you choose to accept them._ c;

  • I rarely want to cry about anything but something about the interaction between Ethan, Elsa, and Julia gets me everytime. so many movies fail to hit me in the feels sometimes the acting sucks, or the dialogue is weak, or the whole story just isnt gripping enough but Rouge Nation and Fallout are such gritty real masterpieces with excellent acting, dialogue, and storytelling it never falls to move me. in every scene with Elsa and Ethan and Julia you can just see it in their faces and body language, hear it in their voices how real that connection they have is. You might think it was really real until you realized its just a movie its such a great plot thread

  • Honestly I think it’s official. I’ve always loved Chris Nolan but I think the second best director/writer of my generation is Chris McQ McQuarrie. That dude just kills it. I thought he only did great cause of Cruise but he’s the reason Mission Impossible started getting great. But then McQ killed it on Top Gun 2. I really think he’s becoming a great creator and I can’t wait to see what he does after all the Impossible films

    • That movie has a gajillion plot holes... the Helicopter sequence makes zero sense as, even IF one can suspend disbelief that it fits in the tunnel, the belief is broken as soon as the other train comes by, the helicopter barelt fit and was in the center of the tunnel... not only would the turbulence make it impossible to remain in control, I physics also dictate the train would hit the bloody thing... further, how filarious it is that moments after Ethan fools Claire w mask causing her to believe he is Jim... his own wife. That then utilizing a camera for Kitrich to see Jim and he just believes its Jim....sure it is... but its less than a couple minutes after Ethan was wearing a mask passing himself off as Jim. Oh and catching that bead of sweat w Ethan sprawled out to balance himself would be impossible... and not mission impossible... as in literally impossible. Thats the shortlist. That movies got problems galore... nevermind that they actually perform the stunts now rather than relying on blue and greenscreen. Thus why the films have increased in mainstream embrace and critical acclaim... oh yea but they should go back to plot hole city...lol GTFO

    • Ghost Protocol was such a smart move. Brad Bird was a perfect choice. He brought all that 60’s tv espionage nostalgia that he used for the Incredibles, harkened back to the original tv series, but then found a way to modernise it for the crazy ‘always bigger’ attitude Tom Cruise was applying to the movies, and it worked so well. Totally set them up for the Christopher McQuarrie run, and now it feels like they’re just in full on Tom Cruise running stride

Never saw MI2 or MI3, but when Ghost Protocol came out, my friends convinced me to see it. I loved it so much! I saw Rogue Nation and loved it also, but I saw Fallout and didn’t like it. I realized this was because being sick with a cold+ Long movie+ Serious tone= Not a good time for me. Thankfully I rewatched it later and loved it. • The introduction of Elsa has to be the greatest decision of all time. Rogue Nation and Fallout gave me the highest emotional response and release of tension I've ever experienced watching a movie. and I was never disappointed with the ending. unfortunately they could have stopped there, and the thing I fear most is that Dead Reckoning will ruin this picture perfect ending in fallout I remember seeing the first Mi as a child, #2 was meh. #3 was not the greatest, but I feel that even though it was loosely tied to 4,5,&6 without the introduction of Julia we wouldnt have that huge release of tension at the end of #4 & #6 nor would we have the intrigue and awesome feeling you get when Elsa is introduced in #5. It all works together wonderfully and I am so glad to see Christopher McQuarrie back. Its fun to see in real life such a great working relationship between him and Tom and the rest of the cast unifying the story and sealing the last Mi movies as the best of the franchise. Mission Impossible will surely end on a high note which seems to be very rare in hollywood

Also, MI saga has something that nowadays is missed by me, happy endings. You can make the best movie ever, but without a satisfactory ending, all is lost. And Tom likes happy and satisfactory endings. Hopefully Ethan can have a happy peaceful time with Ilsa, at least a short one.
