You can turn off sign-in under the "Sign-in Options". Depending on what version of Windows you have, there's a timer (1-15min) or Upon Restart option in the dropdown menu. But they all have a "Never" option in there too.
Great video - thank you. I am a laptop neewbie trying to figure it all out. Never owned one before. Love some videos along those lines. Thanks again.
Good to see a newer video mentioning ninite - a go to for all system builders and maintainers.
Thank you ! Just got one other day & still in the box , I needed this tutorial as a reminder .
Glad it was helpful!
I purchased the same laptop last October except mine came with an Intel CPU. So far, it's been spot on with speed and no hiccups. I will be upgrading the NVMe drive and memory after the warranty wears out. Surprisingly, the warranty for LENOVO computers is very affordable than others. Good choice, Britec. I hope you get lots of good life out of it and enjoy it!
Great to hear!
Same! Except mine is AMD CPU and Geforce GTX GPU
Ur lucky I don't like the AMD Version because there are some problems with the AMD Version, like with their TPM which cause stutters in windows 11. So annoying I wish I got the intel version and FYI if you get the intel version your laptop is Legion 5i and not the Legion 5 as Legion 5 is for AMD Models and the "i" come for intel model.
@@TypicalSamYT Mine as well that I just received today. Ryzen 7 and GTX 3070. I want all the in's/outs before I even fire it up. My MSI got stuck in manual boot mode after a microsoft update and I've finally gotten tired of doing it. I can't wait to see what this thing is going to look like, after using my msi with GTX 765m for the last 6 years XD Although, I got HUGE use out of this msi, so can't complain. It has served me well and was purchased used for $400 and isn't even slow by any means. This Legion 5 was a deal I couldn't pass up.
Thank you so much! Just got my new laptop and this helped alot!
Thank you so much. I just wished you had included N-GeForce Experience ( since including myself, and many others are not aware of this. You’ve done a excellent work.
Thank you for the video, I just recently purchased my first laptop. I was not sure where to start off first until I saw this video.
You're very welcome!
some of my friends say these vids are to underated for beginers, this is the perfect guide for users and beginners who just got a new laptop .
Great. Video I too like the windows 7 feel that you give on the tutorial. Don’t plan on gaming but do want to get a decent pc for multitasking. I’d have loads of screens open for sports / KZhead / word processing would you use a bigger monitor too for more work and visual space. Any suggestions on what minimum specs I’d need ?
Thank you so much for the walkthrough, I am just about the most computer illiterate person ever and been needing help to set up my new Legion. Quick question, I got the exact same laptop you did, is there any way to add RGB to it? I believe the trade off I made was to give up a bit of res and no RGB but backlit keyboard instead. I was bummed but everything else at this price point had way lesser specs.
First thing to do is disable the people icon on the taskbar, that was my #1 main priority when I bought my custom £1,000 laptop 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, windows has plenty of features I don't need
@@Britec09 don't forget indexing lol
And that stupid 'NEWS/Weather' icon that opens on 'hover'. Takes 2 seconds to disable or set to open on mouse click. Open on hover... what kind of crap is that...
What are the specs?
@@WrestlingFace oh SH*T! I forgot about that one lol
Thank you very much for your help 👍🏼
I would liketo see more info on setting up a new laptop. I have a HP. Thank you for your videos
Another great video with good info...you should also disable fast startup in the power settings. I always have this disabled.
@12:18 i would love to see a tutorial of you installing the lite version! and a step by step guide maybe?
Thanks Brian. Excellent tips for anyone wishing to setup their newly purchased laptop.
Glad it was helpful!
long time viewer, thank you for all the great information. Is there a simple way to identify bloatware to insure I done remove any necessary files or applications? Many thanks
You are the man Brian, you are so good to me without you knowing it... Love you man... Just got an Asus Vivo ook x515ea_f515ea and with your tips, did make lots differences... Taa 👍
Thank you Mr. Britec for an informative video. I second a video reviewing this Lenovo laptop and another video advising how to choose a new laptop and what specifications to consider before buying a laptop.
Thank you for this great video!
i just recently purchased a msi crosshair 15u and this video helped me remove everything i needed to remove. I honestly thing buying a "gaming" Laptop it should come bare bones for maximum performance...
Worked , thanks a lot!
Thank you so very much Brian. I have a new Framework laptop, it doesn't come with bloatware but the other settings I will look at changing.
Glad I could help!
Quality content thank you
It worked! Tank you sir.
Excellent video Brian although in my opinion, the very first thing you should do when you get a new laptop is the software updates for the OS and THEN the bloatware and everything else you mentioned. Only reason i say that is because you 'may' have problems with the OS right out of the gate and if you don't address them first with a software update it will just keep happening.
how to software updates the OS?
@@KsjaksjaNakanAn on Windows, click on the Start button (looks like four windows), click the Settings icon, then on the left hand side of the screen, click on Windows Update, and then you should be in the Windows Update screen, and all you need to do is click on Check for Updates, and IF there is an update it will tell you, and it should start downloading automatically, and when it's finished, just click on Install and your computer should restart and install said updates. Don't know about Mac unfortunately.
Hello! I have the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro RTX 3070 140w. I think you've mistakenly pointed out about that Turning on Hybrid Mode, actually it saves battery and uses the integrated GPU. As such, lower FPS and uses Freesync instead of GSync. Turning it off makes the High Performace GPU directly connect to the monitor and thus enables GSync.
Yeah, I just posted the same thing. He completely waffled the difference between Hybrid and Discrete mode. You never want to be on Hybrid unless you are at work with multiple monitors. Gamers will always need to be on Discrete mode to isolate the GPU as you have said. I was kinda mind blown when he was saying all that lol. He has no idea that he is not running his gaming laptops correct for gaming lol.
Hi brother, You always make a very useful video for viewers 😍😍
The McAfee removal is a real pain in the butt. Even with revo there's still stuff of them on the laptop. At least mine, and this I tried to remove with revo pro!
Great video, altho I expected you to mention "make a backup ISO image of the window you get fresh with the laptop incase anything happens since its optimized for the hardware it comes with" or is that a false thing I know about?
Nice video Brian !! Thank you mate !!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great vid. You always add a bit to stuff I ( thought that I ) already know. You're always worth a watch. BTW: We both have the same taste in laptops. Cheers !
Cool, thanks
Could you do a video of you setting up the Legion 5 for a gaming streamer?
Thank you Brian.
You're welcome
Thanks for this video.. I'ma buy one now...
Thx for information
Welcome
i use open shell (classic shell) and explore patcher for my start menu/taskbar since it brings back all of windows 10 features with a windows 7 looking start menu kinda like you have its all free
As far as I can tell, Open Shell (formerly Classic Shell) still works with Windows 11. I'm still using it with Windows 10. The newest version is: OpenShellSetup_4_4_170. You can choose from three start menu looks, but my favorite is Windows 7. Oh, and did I mention it's free?
Great review what do you think of laptop coolers ?
Pay attention to what you are buying from Stardock. I use their Fences software. I decided to buy a package and thought I was buying one time licenses and discovered I'd bought a subscription. So I'll buy individual software next time. I have dropped a number of programs, like Acronis, because of the change to subscription only model.
If you could review your L5 it would be Amazing.
Just got my Win11 upgrade last night….5.5 hours to DL and Install 😢. Wow. But, I have to say I’m pleased so far with appearances, time will tell if it’s a good choice. And absolutely no problem with the upgrade, just the time to get it on my laptop. 👍🇨🇦
Wow, that took a long time coming
so good very informative video
Glad you think so!
I'm going to need this video when I get a new gaming laptop like another 3-4 years time.
Stick it in your favourites
Thank you
Thanks for the video. Where do you get the script to disable the lock screen?
Nice one Brian, although it is a bit late for me as my main laptop, is already setup but it will be good to see what tips you can come up with for example I leave my machine plugged into power all the time and get messages this is not good but I fail to see why? as I never travel with the machine per'se.
Even after it's setup, you can still go into control panel and remove bloatware. As for the power warnings, this is one 'bloatware' to keep- Charging the battery all the time/at 100% will shorten its life. The battery can actually suffer a failure and swell up like a balloon and pop the case open and can even crack the motherboard. If you leave it on AC a lot, as I do with my Gigabyte Aero, I use their power utility to set the max charge to 70%. Charging STOPS well before 100% so it doesn't make it explode. I see that quite a bit at work (in IT)- laptops broken open from pillow shaped batteries.
@@tzviasegal3003 Hmm must check up on my main laptop as I keep it permanently plugged in.
the first thing to do is take a snapshot of the system so that you can always go back to the new system if u ever mess up with drivers and system.
not every laptop come with excessive amount of bloatware on them. i bought a Clevo based gaming laptop, and except for the bloatware like candy crush that comes from Microsoft. only other apps were clevo control center and few driver related apps like killer network and creative sound blaster apps. so it also helps if you avoid getting laptops from those big manufacturers, but with those i would probably just reinstall fresh copy of windows.
Him do you review for the legion 5 performance?
Nice one Brian, what I actually do is.. Disclaimer : Think before you do, do a proper research of your laptop brand. Tip : The best thing I do is I format the whole drive and do a fresh windows install myself. Did it on my HP laptop. No problems so far no manufacturer bloatware that always runs in background and finally debloating windows. Nice video Brian... Cheers
Nice shortcut.
You're welcome
Same here. The first thing I did after I purchased by brand new ASUS ROG Strix G back in 2019 was perform a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro. After the initial setup all I had to do was download and install all the updates for the OS, apps and drivers, as well as declutter any pre-installed Windows apps that I don't use. Starting from a clean slate makes it much easier to deal with the computer in the long term, as it doesn't tend to misbehave nearly as much.
Agree, purge the OS. "uninstalling" Mcafee never uninstalls it, haha
@@victoriqueMoe Ahh Yeah MCAFEE a big enemy to my gaming 🎮 LOL
Can you do a video, about OS Preinstalled vs Another OS you want have in a laptop or PC computer, Windows 10 Home vs Windows 10 Pro, or Windows 10 Home vs Ubuntu Studio, in other words, preinstalled OS on a new computer, has any advantage over the other OS you wanted instead, and you go and use the latter than the preinstalled OS…?
Thank u.
I agree with pretty much everything and have been doing the same things for all the systems I'm maintaining (around 10). What I don't understand why people still bother installing third party antivirus and firewall. Windows Defender does a pretty decent job the last couple of years. And I ALWAYS install and use a Macrium Reflect.
i'm getting a new laptop today, do you really think windows defender is enough? I've heard mixed things. Is it more so depending on what you do? Also is a vpn very necessary or not so much also?
@@jackhammer3708 if you’re concerned about just relying on WD, like me, you may consider getting Malwarebytes. Apparently it has a setting which allows it to do its thing while also letting Windows Defender function at the same time. This is what I’m planning to do on my new laptop coming in today. I’ve heard generally good stuff about Sophos, though I don’t know how it works with Win Def.
Wd is pretty intrusive afaik, that's why
Any ip blockers?
I always just run a bloatware removal script and it does most of the work for me
Hi i just bought this laptap quick question you can use the laptap evenit is charging or wait for 100% before using it? Thnks
What a great video ... My only problem is that i used my new asus a16 at 20% for its first charging but after that i noticed that a new asus laptop should be charged for 3 hours at first use . Can this cause some problems to this 90wh battery ?
Good one!🍻
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video, one tip though:to remove windows bloatware like Xbox game bar, phone link, get help etc. use free program OOABD.
Does Open-Shell work in Windows 11 to improve the start menu?
Is there any need to run a hard drive check for bad sectors with a new laptop,,,,for any manufacturing/shipping/droppage damage?
I like to scan first, using a bootable antivirus. One laptop I bought 20 years ago from a dealer in Manchester was infected. I called them and told them. Looking back perhaps I could have done more, but I don't know what.
so hybrid mode is Mux switch? i didnt understand that i am new in thios gaming world Thanks a lot
Another thing that you might do is set your battery limit to 80 percent for max charging.
How do you set you battery limit
@@llhama6016 On my HP laptop it is in the BIOS settings. Not sure on any other laptops.
@@spshc oh ok
@@llhama6016 I know Lenovo has a setting for battery limit in their Lenovo vantage software. Maybe something similar on other brands softwares/laptops
@@energy_outlaw6679 yeah i found it in Lenovo vantage software app that comes with the laptop
My new Dell laptop comes with licensed McAfee protection last for a year, so it wasn't a trial or anything. It wasn't heavy or affecting the laptop performance, so by God I just let it be to get my money worth!
Cool man great video ! However , I’m still stuck on command 1 , uhh this is the first window type product I’ve owned ,so I’m going to need a shorter leash on the blow by blow , I only know IOS ,android, and chrome os ,Little Linux but not enough to brag about
What defender did you say we should get ??
In file explorer, under folder properties>customize optimize this folder for 'general items' 'also apply this template to all sub-folders'. Is there a global equivalent of this setting, so folders don't *automatically* set themselves up to display all the 'music' info columns?
on the topic i would say the only thing you need to do with a new laptop is format, put a OS you like and that's it keeping stuff up to date is common sense now a days
Hi Brian, question for you: can you transfer everything from your old laptop to your new laptop? (like they do with cell phones) Thanks in advance.
If you have a USB, that's fine, but it may take some time. Alternatively, if you have OneDrive, you can back everything up from your old laptop, and once it is done, you can sign in on the new laptop, and it should download everything for you
Yes laptop reviews please
Coming
Thx.
Just bought a new laptop, and in the middle of following your instructions, I noticed backlight bleeding in the bottom right, it wasn't there before I even did the LCD test ! What to do now !
The first thing that i must do Is reinstall SO because that all bloatware Is a horror.thanks for your video.
That's a great idea. I'd like to know how can I choose a laptop for traders without breaking the bank. thanks for all your videos.
Great suggestion!
tq im trying this im noob to laptop!
Have you had much luck with Lenovo Vantage and even the Smart boost? I can afford it, but they also want to send physical media instead of a download. Weird!!
It's really better to make an installer disk with the media creation tool and do a fresh install of the machine. All that bloatware will leave residu on the system even after removing.
Apply good quality thermal paste. It has always been a priority for me as gaming laptops heat up so much , so that's the first thing I do after buying a laptop.
Don't laptops come preassembled though? Or do you disassemble the laptop and apply it?
@@tykiahjames9372 You just unscrew the back and heatsink then apply it
my acer, which I am writing this from, came bundled with firefox of all things, a lot I did not remove, messenger was preinstalled which is great, although it did keep installing express vpn, which was annoying, forcing me to do a fresh install, but doing this I have to manually download the propper sound driver in order to use acer true harmony as the generic realtec driver does not do it, I recommend anyone with an aspire5 download the audio driver from acer so you have access to that great sound quality if you decide to do a fresh install. that firefox you get is different too as its acers custom firefox
13:19 What are you referring to here, so I can do some research on it?
Do you have to update Invidia driver as well?
Is there anything like start11, but for the task bar? Specifically so in the bottom right, 2 lines of icons appear? I like to have the all showing, but windows 11 forces a single row, which takes up half the screen
You forgot to mention one important thing that you must do when buying a gaming laptop. If its msi, lenovo, Asus navigate to the dedicated software of the laptop and set limit battery charge to a lower percentage than 100%, that the software permits. This preservs the battery capacity to degrade over time when gaming and having your laptop plugged in. I was not able to find a similar software for acer laptops. Maybe someone could help me with the name of it. For msi it's dragon center, for Lenovo it's lenovo vantage, for Asus it's My asus. Acer... Idk.
Hey I think it's acer care center, maybe it's the app
Go to acer care centre app>checkup>battery>click on the next arrow near battery>turn on protect battery
@@bantymech8242 awesome! Thank you so much!
@@clashclashers8898 Awesome! Thank you so much!
You should do a full review on Start 11
Will do
hi. do u experience screen bleeding in your laptop?
Rather than removing the bloatware manually, I'd much rather reinstall the OS. 1. Install Windows 10 2. Update Windows 3. Run Chris Titus' script to disable telemetry and mouse acceleration 4. Disable animations 5. Run a windows debloater tool and uninstall other unnecessary software 6. Image with Clonezilla. 7. Install programs as normal. Step 1 ensures that I have a clean OS. I have encountered persistent programs that reinstall themselves (I'm looking at you Asus) after uninstalling. Regarding step 4, I heard that animations eat into your battery life, and I prefer having a snappier OS. Step 5 removes the usual junk that Microsoft installs. Step 6 ensures that if I ever had to reset my laptop, I will always have a backup to revert to.
Can I directly install windows 10 ltsc 2021 directly on this?
'Re-size the SCOW' - love the accent
i still image up the OS partition after I have finished tuning - so I can revert to a known good state without having to reinstall and redo the steps after a misfortune, its better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it...
Hi, I have a HP omen laptop but I don't know if there is an app like the one you used to change the MUX. If there is could anyone show me where to find it. Much appreciated!
Brian, Would like a review of your new Lenovo Legion laptop.
OK mate, will do
Thank you very kindly I did buy HP brand new laptop and I'm going to use the laptop for making money you know an internet somehow so thank you for the tutorial and the lecture we love you and God bless you all and God bless us all and God bless all your wonderful families from Richard dobby God bless
From Richard dobby
so we have to restart the laptop each time to properly use the MUX switch?
Can you do something about the Lenovo V14 Intel N4020. Also if you download some of Microsoft e.g word do you have to pay for it? I do not like 365 which I will not download so can I uninstall it? Reason I ask because some do not have any Microsoft soft items, but looks like this dose. When dose it ask you to sign up for Microsoft as I do not want to do this. I have unpacked my laptop got as far as how would you set up device I have said for personal use. I have already installed Internet as it asked me to, it then said updates required and done it, but not yet reached settings so I can make further changes delete antivirus then install another one
I personally reformat it and reinstalled the fresh OS with the latest update on Windows 11 flash drive.
Nice
First thing I usually do is take an image in Macrium Reflect But in this case, I'd just be installing Windows 10.
I just got a new Acer Nitro 5 and gotta say the bloatware was far less than i was expecting. But this may be as it was a win10 one.
Hope windows optimizes new PCs with Bing wallpaper theme.
First step was missed, did you use a windows or microsoft login ?
