The end of 2023, I’m happy to see the back of it , after a really challenging time and the weather has got me down. This video is the bit between Christmas and New year - feeding, mole catching and struggling with the weather conditions on the ground making a big old mess!

Fantastic video!! You perfectly show how hard work is on the farm in winter!! You have to be there 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, whether it's cold, rainy or snowy!! You are a champion Joanna!!💪🏼👌🏻

Yes , it’s been a bit of a battle and definitely not been enjoyable which is a shame because the work doesn’t make much financial reward so if you can’t enjoy it either then you start to wonder what is the point!
The weather in 2022 was a drought and in 2023 there was too much rain. What an extreme change in weather

You'll soon have enough for those mole skin shorts for Nick. Has been one of the wettest starts to winter. Once the grounds got wet it takes alot of drying out at this time of year. Happy New year. All the best 🇬🇧.

Happy New Year Joanna & Nick, The ground is absolutely sodden, you can hear the squelching underfoot. The amount of rain last month and this year is unbelievable. Fingers crossed that this New Year brings more favourable conditions...🙂👍🏻

Looks like a drying week ahead but damn cold. Hopefully the land will drain. Keep the faith. There are tough years and not so tough years. 2023 was the former and sod it!
Hi , it was tough , it felt tough! The last few years have felt hard for a number of reasons , Covid , dads passing etc But perhaps in time I will see it helped strengthen me , I am not sure! I just wish it could be more enjoyable to do the work and in the wet it feels like a battle
@DaleFarm Well, one of the things it will do is to help you appreciate the good stuff in life just that little bit more. You have had it tough, no doubt. Life can be a bugger sometimes. It can also be the opposite as well. Keep warm. I've sent dryer weather!

Happy New Year! I think 2023 was hard for many of us. I'm also glad to see the back of it. Your willingness to do the extra work of sharing your year with us helped me get through mine. Even in the muckiest times, there is something wonderful about seeing how you & Nick keep going.

Hi Joanne I totally agree,2023 was definitely one to forget can't in over 50 years remember such a constant wet, some years were like this in the mid 60s though followed by rather cold weather so it's interesting to see if this follows that trend . Happy New year .

Not knowing is what makes life interesting, having to deal with the unexpected and unknown just doesn't always seem like it at the time, but you will look back and say do you remember 2023 .

It’s incredibly wet , but it’s slightly dryer now thank goodness.Don’t forget to look back at this video when we are being threatened with hosepipe bans etc 😅
Yes I know, I do always wonder how it will ever dry out but already there has been an improvement in how squishy the ground feels

Jo and Nick Happy New Year to you both . Quick suggestion if you let your tyres down a bit on your kubota it will help with driving in mud ie 10 - 15 psi you get a better traction

Interesting mole traps. We don’t have that type here in Iowa. We are so dry that we would welcome your rain. Mud is the worst , hard on livestock as well as people. Hope the new year is better for you guys. Great videos

Happy new year Nancy , yes it’s a good thing we are not on flooded land but it is still difficult conditions anyhow, It has started to improve which is good because it desperately needed to! I was really feeling fed up with everything!!

happy new year to you both .......hopefully 2024 will be an improvement on the weather front ......you are fortunate that you made plenty of silage as it looks like that it will all be eaten .........feed starting to get tight in places around here ......looks like we are in for a dry spell for a while now .......as the old saying goes ......long fare long foul .......and we have had a good bit of foul of late .............
Yeah it does feel like it’s been unbalanced in favour of the more challenging conditions! Here it’s been a drier week we needed it ! Yes grateful for the feed we have to get us through the winter ! Maybe a long way to go yet

Happy new year to you both. Hope 2024 is drier. 2023 was very difficult year with it being so wet. On the bright side at least your land not under water or had your house flooded like alot of people have this year. Would ye not consider housing the sheep for the winter,i know its more expensive but it saves so much hassle and you have nice fields with extra grass to get your sheep out into when weather allows in spring.

No I wouldn’t consider housing the sheep at all, just don’t know anyone who does that so I don’t think it’s a good idea, sheep are happier and healthier outdoors being as nature intended! Unless it was 6 foot of snow or a flood of course ! Yes we are glad not to be flooded but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t still difficult’ it’s all relative x

Hi Joanna and Nick, what miserable weather you have had to put up with over the last couple months. Its so boggy and wet in the fields now for the sheep and highland cattle to cope with. The weather is so unpredictable and you cant know when the rain will stop and the sun will appear. Your animals look good considering the winter soaking they had endured. I like the idea of a hot bath and sitting in front a warm wood fire. I would just add a nice steak and a glass of red wine. Hang in there and lets hope the weather improves soon. Oh how I’d love to say how lovely our fields are compared to yours but unfortunately ours are in the same sate 😩😔. Flood water have just about gone but the top layer is sodden still. Ahh well, springs coming and the days seem a little longer already 🤷♂😊x

Disheartening is definitely the word!
Do the moles do so much damage...? After all, the animals just, (inevitably), cause so much more soil disturbance and don't aerate it... Just asking. 🥸
Yes they make the ground a soily mess so it can’t be grazed and you wouldn’t be able to make hay , the soil can also contaminate hay and spread diseases to livestock
