    • Those little airplane wings are flying through the water, holding the boat up. They're fast because there's less surface area in contact with the water (contact = friction). Meanwhile, the wind is always trying to tip the boat over, so every time the boat changes direction, it switches to the wings on the downwind side of the boat. This leaves the boat off-balance, so gravity tries to tip the boat over the other way, counteracting the tipping effect of the wind. PS: wing = hydrofoil

  • Extremely well done both teams, but it seems to me that the problem for Prada on the last but one leg was that every time they tack these boats they loose a lot of speed and distance made good. So when Prada tacked over TNZ well and good but, when TNZ immediately went right Prada was unable to tack back over TNZ. Then when TNZ finally got to sail their own race they just stretched away. The clever tactics of Prada throughout much of the race up to that point finally ran our of options, and the fastest boat won the race.

For instance, if New Zealand wins the Cup they can decide to race wooden hull boats as you suggested the next time around. Is this still true? I have no idea what to think about the race as it is now. Going back to wooden boats is like asking tennis players to go back to wooden rackets. • Italy dived a bit too deep towards the mainland on that downward leg when that ultimate pass happened? They chose to go all the lay line, but it's not a good lay-line... when considering how the right (OTHER SIDE) of the track has tended to produce the faster boat speed overall. If you ask me, Italy really stabbed themselves in the foot there, so to speak (as a saying).

    @koreycowan1976@koreycowan1976 Жыл бұрын
    • It's the hydrolics on the boats adjusting the sails. Don't really know why they are so noisy though. Might be because its moving quite fast, comparred to normal hydrolics

My goodness are The America's Cup Rules about to be altered to suit and improve the British economy and let the New Zealand Winners of The America's Cup, accept it graciously. Who knows, only the heavens above...
