America's Cup 2021 Day 6 | EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS | 3/16/21 | NBC Sports

Just watched the Netflix documentary on the 1983 race. It’s amazing how far these boats have come.
Same here, I wanted to see what the modern boat design looked like. And they are a marvel to watch.
Me 3
I watched too, exactly

Oh my word, i’m so out of touch with this level of sail racing. Crazy.
They look like power boats at that speed. Absolutely insane. 46 knots! I can't even believe what I'm seeing. Btw, what is that noise? Is that the motor for the foil lift?
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 It’s the hydraulic systems for foil trim and sail control
I know right!!! I remember watching races years ago...nothing like this...it's flying !
@@Prifly70 Something I regret not learning to do, sailing. I used to watch competitive off Southampton and Plymouth, used to love it.
@@Stone1108 Never too old to start! Even Dingy sailing is fantastic
have not seen the cup since the 80's this is insane!
I never miss one. Seaboner

Where have you gone Ted Turner, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you, woo woo woo.....
Netflix brought me here and gave me new appreciation to the teams. These boats have advanced in so many ways.
Same here… but 83’s style was so much better
This was the most exciting race of the AC 2021! All were still learning and evolving their moves and tactics during these races. The next ACs are promising to be just phenomenal!
For NZL this is a QUADRUPLE of AC- Victories 1995, 2000, 2017 and 2021. .... That's really very special !
Alinghi won in 2003. Not Team New Zealand. Team NZ victories are 1995, 2000, 2017 and 2021.
@@asterixdogmatix1073 That's right....so NZL had a QUADRUPLE of AC- Victories :-)
@@asterixdogmatix1073 Where does he write we won in 2003 ?....🤔

Wow, I don't understand what I'm seeing but clearly they are going extremely fast and those boats are extremely expensive
Where is it?!
I totally agree! Pretty cool! 😎🇺🇸
Those little airplane wings are flying through the water, holding the boat up. They're fast because there's less surface area in contact with the water (contact = friction). Meanwhile, the wind is always trying to tip the boat over, so every time the boat changes direction, it switches to the wings on the downwind side of the boat. This leaves the boat off-balance, so gravity tries to tip the boat over the other way, counteracting the tipping effect of the wind. PS: wing = hydrofoil
😂😂😂
@@RagingGeekazoid Thank you for explaining
I remember staying up to watch Australia II win the Cup in 1983; astounded by the evolution in the boats since then.
I havent watched for a few years - man these things are absolutely bonkers crazy - 50 knots! they are spaceships on water
Who won the cup that year?

It's amazing how these boats can achieve speeds far greater than most power boats. Obviously this is no where near the speed of race boats but still an incredible feat
Really slow sea planes

Ive been watching since 1987 in fremantle, these yachts are the best I've seen, just beautiful
47 knots at the turn. I literally laughed out loud!

Incredible technology and fantastic coverage as well..
I need to look up the rules, etc. now, things have changed so much. It appears that they boats are mostly identical, but with tech seems so different. I do miss having the guys hanging out on the side of the boat when they needed the weight to be on the other side.
Absolutely beautiful! The boats, the race, the strategies, etc.
@Panama Red 5 knots doesnt sound very interesting ngl.
Took my kids out on a Hobie 16 yesterday after 10 years off cats. I pray I never let that happen again until I'm ashes:) GET OUT ON THE WATER people. God Bless America!
God Bless Dennis Conner, probably the greatest American Patriot sailor and one of the most real characters to have graced our screens,Dennis called fake news 30 years before it even existed 🤙
Extremely well done both teams, but it seems to me that the problem for Prada on the last but one leg was that every time they tack these boats they loose a lot of speed and distance made good. So when Prada tacked over TNZ well and good but, when TNZ immediately went right Prada was unable to tack back over TNZ. Then when TNZ finally got to sail their own race they just stretched away. The clever tactics of Prada throughout much of the race up to that point finally ran our of options, and the fastest boat won the race.
Man ide love 2 party with these athletes, top notch folk 4 sure. Thanks for the video brother peace.
Amazing helmsmanship by both teams...tight, and as competitive as humanly possible....

I guess Team NLZ will win several America's Cup! They are amazing sailors and they know very well the wind around there. More: they're very quick to asset the boat getting in few days the best performance .
I have followed the Americas cup for years and I am amazed at how the use of Technology makes this races a lot more interesting for everybody. And those legs raising on the side of the boats taking the fins out of the water are amazing!!!
Watching these races was so exhilerating, i had to set my alarmclock for it (live in europe) but loved the livestream. Really hope that itll be broadcasted on yt again next time.
i only just learned about these boats. i knew of the older ones but these ones are freaking nuts. its literally blowing my mind how efficient they seem to be.
Who knows where the industry is going to lead next. Crazy Sailors and ship rights coming up with ideas as we speak.
The F1 of sailboat racing. Simply amazing!
The F1 of monohull racing. Trimarans can blow their doors off, at least in courses with more reaching.
@@RagingGeekazoid With the offset foils these boats are essentially tris once they lift out the water.
@@joestevenson5568 Maybe so. They certainly are fast.

These "sailboats " are on the WOW FACTOR, wish I had the skills to make a remote control boat that works like these

New Zealand have always done well everytime they've competed in the Americas Cup. Challenger Final at least

This was an awesome race!! I think... lol
технологии отточены до невероятности, экипажи обученны до автоматизма, штурманы идеально рулят... мое почтение
These sail boats are faster than 90% of the power boats in the world.
A whale , dolphin , porpoise , and fishes worst nightmare.
I can admire how fancy they look but i liked the old actual boats better.
What? America's Cup doesn't race single hull sailboats anymore? Geeze, I've been out of the loop... for a long time.
Know one even cares about this race anymore after the high tech sector took it over I wonder if they wouldn’t be more popular if they raced some wooden 12meters that would be sweet then it would be a great test of sailing skills and play tribute to the great boats and sailors who came before
@@blucheer8743 Is it true that no one cares about the America's Cup anymore? I wouldn't know. Just a question. The last time I checked the winner of America's Cup gets to decide what kind of boat is raced. For instance, if New Zealand wins the Cup they can decide to race wooden hull boats as you suggested the next time around. Is this still true? I have no idea what to think about the race as it is now. Going back to wooden boats is like asking tennis players to go back to wooden rackets. Yes, it would be a totally different game, perhaps even more entertaining too.
@@davidhunternyc1 I’m not sure I think that was the rule when Dennis the menace was plying the waters but I do believed they changed that… so many great races have been ruined by those seeking to over commercialize them. Too bad all great races propel us forward into hopefully a better future but it loses meaning if the progress forsakes the past…..
I remember the days when the winged keel was the big tech advantage. These things look like Transformers
@@johnb2945 I agree. They do look like Transformers !!! Maybe their needs to be another kind of America's Cup where only single hull boats are allowed or America's Cup could be divided into two categories?
Great stuff Verry entertaining

Finally.. we saw a "Race". :)
Can anyone tell me what’s happened on 16:07? Italy leads but after cut NZ leads.
Эффект Алексеева на максималках !
They sound like transformers the boats
Netflix plus no chill equals no sleep, what a documentary. Truly was an astonishing race. Is it me or do these yachts look like F1 vehicles on water.
To me they look like whales, humpback whales, they even have horizontal flukes.
Italy dived a bit too deep towards the mainland on that downward leg when that ultimate pass happened? They chose to go all the lay line, but it's not a good lay-line... when considering how the right (OTHER SIDE) of the track has tended to produce the faster boat speed overall. If you ask me, Italy really stabbed themselves in the foot there, so to speak (as a saying).
Only I see that the NZ sail is quicker in same direction? but Italian sail is leading somehow?
The pit crews are definitely good with the impact wrench! 🤣.... seriously though... does anyone know what that noise is?
It's the hydrolics on the boats adjusting the sails. Don't really know why they are so noisy though. Might be because its moving quite fast, comparred to normal hydrolics
Jimmy "we're just going to have to take this", ouch. Predictable ouch though.
Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Is it true that the British Challengers Ineos, Team Principal/Skipper Ben Anslie; wants to hold the next America's Cup in England. My goodness are The America's Cup Rules about to be altered to suit and improve the British economy and let the New Zealand Winners of The America's Cup, accept it graciously. Who knows, only the heavens above...
Exhilarating.
Can someone explain this to me? This is new to me. But with all the data shown. What is the wind speed and direction in degrees?
Doesn’t look like there is any wind.
These aren’t boats. They’re spacecraft with sails. The hulls don’t even touch the water at full speed.
wow boats

I’ve always wondered how these boats would handle a little weather.
