  • The young Italian deserve to be in the Final and they showed real pace throughout the regatta and kept the pressure on throughout the last race. Unfortunately one mistake by them robbed us of an exciting finish, but take nothing away from Prada Pirelli a very impressive debut by their young helmen. 6 from 9 races for Emirate Team New Zealand didn't show how the other teams pushed them all the way. Well done Team New Zealand.

  • I spent about half of each race covered in goosebumps when I watched them the day after on ThreeNow+ in NZ. I am not a sailor, and I do not like sailing, usually equating it with putting on every item of clothing you own, and standing in a cold shower tearing up big wads of hundred dollar bills non-stop. But today I am addicted to SailGP and with AC starting up with such a bang, we can all relax, because the future of sailing is assured, and the boats will continue to be even more and more mind boggling. Does anyone care to guess when onboard technology will reach the level where the immersed foil can be encapsulated by a cavitation bubble created by high pressure air released at the leading edge? I envisage a reservoir which would allow perhaps a minute of super fast sailing, as drag drops to almost nothing inside a cavitation bubble. It would act just like a Drag Reduction System (DRS) system on an F1 car. FYI: The Russians have a supercavitating torpedo called Skhval which cruises at 370km/h once its supercavitation bubble is created and maintained.

    • Your kidding right? SailGP is more relevant than the Americas Cup these days. Better boats in SailGP, Better racing, Better rules. On top of all that its reintroduced sailing to the mases and has created a massive following across the globe for the sport.

  • Thanks for the great coverage. As constructive criticism, I do wish the crosstalk was not on constantly. It's mostly unintelligible and distracting, at least to my ears. Also, the overlay graphics can make things hard to watch when they're moving too much or are too in the foreground. SailGP had this problem early on but has mostly fixed their graphics problems, so I hope this will be improved for America's Cup races as well. Still, it's amazing technology that will probably make it easier for people to become interested in the sport.

It's as if they had no intention of racing. I should probably watch the 3rd to see if there is an explanation. Nobody can be that bad.

She isn't great as a commentator but she could do a lot better if given time. It's all being so dumbed down to apparently attract the non sailing viewer that it just puts off anyone with sailing knowledge. I hope NZ win again. I can't stand Ainslie. Great dinghy sailor but truly awful in foiling sailing.

  • I’m really not happy with this new style of racing. These new boats are simply drag racers. They aren’t built for dueling. Three races and exactly 1 pass total. I miss the traditional boats with spinnakers and actual cloth sailing. They had a spirit and style that was unmatched. Gone are the creaking sounds and now it’s just the grinding sounds of hydraulics. 😡

  • I'm a Kiwi and I think the Americans Cup is a Bad Idea - it should be Called "Kiwi Cup of Peace" - *All Boats Enter under Law of Equity Outcomes Exist till the next Cup* and the Next Cup is 4 years away and the Rules are Set, You are the Defender - The World is Against you - but it's got yo be sailing on water.....

    @ironclay3939@ironclay39395 ай бұрын
    • Well, then start your own race. There are already tons of sailing races that have an equity of outcomes model, but this is state of the art, high performance yatch engineering & racing, not a 505 regatta, so there will always be a significant financial & organizational barrier to entry. I'd suggest that you might be more interested in SailGP since it's more similar to what you're describing at this performance level. More importantly, the races are subject to the Deed of Gift of the America's Cup (which was named for the first boat that won it, not specifically for the United States). This was created by the New York Yatch Club after they originally won the trophy from the Royal Yatch Squadron, but instead of just putting the cup permanently up on a shelf, the NYYC decided to make it into a challenge trophy to promote friendly sail competition among nations. So, the cup is on loan and this oldest of existing international competitions is regulated through that deed created by the NYYC. In other words, good luck changing the name & fundamental structure of the rules. It will never, ever happen unless the Kiwis or someone else buys the NYYC and rewrites the Deed of Gift. On a side note, as an American, I find it rather fitting that the holders of this cup, which was originated by (and never won by) the British, have mostly been former British colonies. Also, as much as it pained me as a child to watch Australia end NYYC's streak with the cup, I think it was great for the sport to suddenly have newer technologies take the spotlight along with the excellent sailing, and New Zealand has certainly elevated the sport remarkably in the decades since then in both regards. So, thanks to your countrymen for their part in making sailing awesome to watch.

      @dezstepz2427@dezstepz24274 ай бұрын
    • SailGP and even the New AC is an attempt to make money directly out of sailing from the public . The original Americas Cup never made money from the sailing directly but indirectly and sponsorship etc . Now it travels the world under very controlled race tracks that you have to buy tickets (not cheap) to get up close and experience the whole vib .
