  • I have always loved any movies or books about Genghis Khan's life, so this is a real treat for me. He became one of the greatest leader in history, even though he suffered so much hard ship before he became Khan. Thank you so very much for sharing.

    • Ghenis khan once sent three of his ambassadors with a great amount of silver and other gifts to a great chief, so that his caravans could travel safely through his lands. The chieftain sent back the heads of his three men. Ghenis attacked the village and killed everyone except the women and children, which he turned over to his mother and his favorite wife Borte. The children were raised by the tribe and the women were given to his men as wives. The chieftain who had sent the severed heads of his ambassadors and stolen the silver and other gifts from the khan was not so lucky. Ghenis had the silver melted down, and it was poured into the eyes, ears and mouth of the chieftain. Ghenis was no more brutal than Alexander The Great. Such men met opposition to their rule with great savagery.

    • @@adamb5463 I believe Chinggis Khaan's biggest weapon wasn't military might, but information. And if you still believe that Chinggis Khaan was a senseless mass murderer, I think you are playing into the 800 year old mind game. With such a small force, in order to conquer and maintain rule on much bigger Empires, he had to spread propaganda. If you divided the allegedly massacred 40 million (censuses from that time is very rough approximations at best some figures fluctuate by 40 million and people dying of other causes were included in the alleged figures) to the 130 thousand forces, one soldier has to kill over 300 people, there is a story saying single soldier was handed 30 people to execute and were executed at the same time, even 30 children can overpower a single person in a time with no guns. Keep in mind that the Mongolian empire crumbled not because the citizens revolted, but because of rift between ruler family. In order to maintain that rule without revolt, one has to be careful with the population not to use force and anger them, especially if the population is a few hundred times your own. I don’t think people back then, possibly your ancestors would have just peacefully submitted to much smaller Mongolian armies if they were guaranteed to be raped and murdered. Maybe your ancestors had enough with their own rulers who had never faced violence themselves but put others in harms way without thinking twice and had never worked for their food in their lifetime but would tax their subjects until they starved? Then comes a man who had struggled same or worse than any other commoner and after conquering so much still refuses to succumb to the life of leisure, a man who is so terrifyingly pragmatic in war that he is OK with his reputation tarnished (lunatic, rapist, mass murderer, brute) in order to achieve victory without bloodshed promising that you will be free of tyranny and a guarantee from Khaan that his army will do you no harm. That would have been very appealing, there are many historical accounts that even after the city fought back, after taking having the city to surrender, rather than killing everyone, the tyrant rulers were given to the people to exact their own justice and were beaten to death by their own subjects. There weren’t many Mongolians to begin with, so rather than getting destroyed, eventually the ruling Mongolian families got mixed into the local population and converted to their cultures and fought with other Mongolian ruled Empires. I am arguing that Chinggis Khaan was a purely 'good' person, if such a person exists at all, all I am saying is, in order to achieve what he achieved with the resources he had you just couldn't kill and rape all the way. And it you are the most powerful man and his descendant, you probably wouldn't have to rape, not to mention the strong queens who had much say in the actions of their husbands.

  • A little known fact is that Chinggis Khaan, better known as Genghis Khan, would collect orphans from his bloody battlefields and have his own mother raise them. These adopted brothers grew up to become his most loyal officials and advisers. Khaan organised his Mongol soldiers into groups according to the decimal system. Soldiers were arranged in units of 10 (“aravt”), 100 (“zuut”), 1,000 (“minghan”) and 10,000 (“tumen”). Each unit had an appointed leader reporting to a larger unit. A 10-person “aravt” unit is ordered by Khaan to locate a skilled doctor who lives in a forest. En route, they discover an abandoned baby. He is in fact the child of an enemy warrior who gives pursuit, even though they have saved the child’s life. Whilst protecting the child from attacks from enemy soldiers, the members of the “aravt” must also complete their mission. Through their actions, they demonstrate the benevolence and bravery of Mongol warriors as the final battle closes in.
