So true
I think I have a good explanation for the Redstone comparator equation. I included a TL;DR at the end, and I am willing to answer questions or make revisions to my explanation. So the fullness of each slot is measured as a percentage. The fullness of a container is measured as the average of each fullness percentage, and the fullness of the container is also a percentage. At a glance, one might assume they could multiply the fullness percentage by the maximum signal strength of 15 to find the output strength of a comparator reading a container. It's important to know that truncation is used in order to remove all decimal values from a number. It's nothing fancy, the numbers past the decimal point are literally just chopped off the final answer. It's because of truncation that if the fullness percentage was simply multiplied by max signal strength 15, there is a situation in which a nearly empty container (about 7% or less) won't register. If a container was 1% full, 1% x 15 = 0.15, and the .15 would be lost to truncation. Instead the equation multiplies by 14 and adds 1 to make up for not multiplying by 15. Now, it doesn't matter if fullness x 14 < 1, because 1 will always be added to the final answer before the decimal values are removed. TL;DR: Each increment of Redstone signal is like a box, and each box can hold only 7% or less of the container being read. The first 7% needs only one box, but the 8th percent needs another box. *So for every 7% of the container's total space being used, a single increment of Redstone signal strength is produced.*
your comment made me understand why people would always add + 1 in truncating calls in programming

*BEFORE WATCHING VIDEO* Let's get some Comparator circuits in action! *after watching video* I'm happy with repeaters :]
the easiest thing to do is the chest thing but besides that the rest is a bit confusing..
NoRMiEx all of it is easy for me except the chest. I messed around with all of it and it’s REALLY simple. But the conclusion I’ve come down with about the chest is that the first item you put in, it gives a 1 strength. Second item you put in, it gives another strength. Fourth stack you put in gives a strength of 3 and sixth stack you put in gives a strength of 4. Starting from the fourth stack, you have to keep on putting 2 stacks to get another strength signal

CheeseyDeath15 I watched the video and think the easiest thing to do is the cauldron, u can take out or put water in and it will activate, then when you put it back in or take it out it deactivates
Ngl I thought repeater is harder but now, I finnaly know how hard comparators are, like I just use comparators for making automatic arrow or potion launchers and hidden room puzzles
See, these are the kind of redstone classes I can take. If I try to become a genius in only one video, my head will explode and my mom will get mad.

Addition mode: if(a < b): output = 0 else: output = a Subtraction mode: if(a < b): output = 0 else: output = a - b
Liam Borella thanks for this, cleared things up due to bad memory when watching vids :-)
Thanks a lot. Addition mode was a pretty clear *if/else* statement, but I was a bit confused on the subtraction mode :)
There doesn't seem to be an "addition" mode. Normal mode doesn't add the input signal strengths; it just checks whether the secondary input signal is stronger than the main input, and if it is, the secondary input inhibits the output.
Liam Borella thanks
I think it's less "addition" mode and more "comparison" more.

This is so incredibly helpful. I've been using the smaller redstone clock without really knowing the math, but this made it very clear.
hey guys, I found the formula for the redstone signal strength per item in tile entities. I will try and explain it the best i possible could but its essentially this : the max amount of items held in the tile entity (for example a hopper can hold a maximum of 320 items 5 x 64) devided by 15 (the max signal strength) in this case we get 21.333 which means every 21 or 22 items gives 1 signal strength if we use a hopper. this is useful for item sorters or anything that requires tile entities with redstone.
