Tadej Pogačar and Adam Yates Epic Duel on Jebel Hafeet | UAE Tour Stage 3 2021

2021 ж. 22 Ақп.
132 173 Рет қаралды

Stage 3 of the UAE Tour was the first World Tour level mountain top finish of the season, with the riders finishing on top of Jebel Hafeet, a 10.5km climb of around 7% gradient. Tadej Pogačar began the stage in the leaders jersey 5 seconds ahead of Quickstep leader Almeida and 39 seconds ahead of last year's UAE Tour GC winner, Adam Yates (now moved to Ineos Grenadiers). With Yates' penchant for early attacks, and the numerous strong climbers out of GC contention but hunting for a stage win (Sepp Kuss for example), there was always going to be a big showdown on Jebel Hafeet in this UAE Tour Stage 3 2021.

  • you made a great point yesterday about tadej tactical prowess. In auto racing if a car cant pass one on front on oval even if on back bumbper it backs off to pick up draft and use a slingshot while also already up to a speed impossible usually to jump right on wheel cycling wise as you said kwiato, savvy as any rider has dine it to beat the likes of sagan and gva i think. Its similar to when attacking up a mountain you do so on other side of road to create as much lateral distance to again make the effort to close the distance to the wheel hard enough that when they have already burned there matches contador was amaster at that nibali does it as well on climbs....most do. Pogacar also did it as soon as road went down using his extra weight and power so he would be in front to taking preferred line into decisive 180 degree turn. Great tactics and explanation LR. Quintana couldn't drop froome all tour one year 2014 maybe and actually tried it on about 12% , dropped back tp get a run what a climber in his day, froome still caught him. Its just make the man burn his matches just to get the wheel and get a run on the man who thought it smart to be in front.

  • I think the one chance Yates had to win was that point where Pogacar had pulled, Yates attacked and Kuss lost the wheel, leaving Pogacar to close down Yates. When Yates saw Pogacar closing, he should have emptied the tank once Pog was almost on his wheel with another attack. That might have done it.
