2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 | Is 6 Cylinders Enough?
One of my favorite test-drives in recent memory is the AMG GT R Coupe; a spectacular 2-seater with exotic-car looks that is ready to head to the racetrack. So, you’d think a 4-door version of that car would be nearly as exciting, right? But what I’ve been learning this week is that this GT 53 has a completely different personality, one that doesn’t raise the heartbeat nearly as high.

Great review, your spot on. This model is super nice but leaves you drooling over the GT 63 still, why do they make these middle of the road traps that still break the piggy bank, SmH.
I may be wrong here, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that this is the only sedan that Mercedes offers that has the gear shifter on the center console (where it truly belongs) instead of up on the steering wheel column, which is so non-sporty and dumb. I absolutely love the fact that the gear shifter is on the center console. For me, it is an utter deal breaker to have the gear shifter mounted on the steering wheel column, which is why as a sedan lover, Mercedes isn’t even on my list of possible vehicles. Except this one!
well they changed it back to the steering wheel now, I can tell you from daily driving one, the one on the steering wheel is much better, I am getting a new one which has a handle instead of the gear shifter in the middle.
My dream car but in 63 form
2022 AMG GT63 S starts at $161k 0-60 in 3.0 or so 2022 AMG GT53 starts at $99k 0-60 in 4.1. Would you pay over $60,000 more for a second quicker to 60 and some V8 sound?

Is this car based off the CLS? Also, did I see some Thacher State Park Clips? If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend filming at Bear Mountain State Park, it is such a treat.
No to CLS. Yes to Thacher.. good eye. And Bear Mountain is great! Was just there shooting some cars.

The GT53 makes no sense to me, you can get a E63,M5,RS7 for the same price. Yea the GT may drive a bit better but the fact that it has a i6 for that money makes it a bad value. Mercedes should’ve kept the CLS63 around.
Well not brand new E63,M5 or RS7. Those cars new are 120k. You could get 2018 versions that compete with this GT53 price
@@JakeSmith-rg1sd incorrect, a 2023 RS7 is about 145k CAD and gt53 is about the same
I dont want M5, RS7 or E73. Horsepower is not the most important for me. GT53 is a beautiful car. Interior No1. Its a perfect car.

the pragmatic choice in this segment would be the audi s7 prestige... same performance from its six gorgeous in its own right and is more tech heavy all while costing 30k less...but the three point star has clout lol

I've got one :). And it's tuned. I love my 2017 S7 Presige.. but wow the interior in the AMG GT dwarfs mine.
I know who might enjoy this vehicle. A relative who wasn’t fond of the GT R you tested.

For the price these go for, in Australia at least, I'd rather have an S-Class. The AMG GT sedan just doesn't make sense to me, and this is coming from someone who's been a Mercedes fanatic for over 20 years.
I had the 2018 sklass ...and now I have the Gt 53..don't compare them..because they are differnt worlds I'd love to have them both but the gt makes me fell much happier

AMG rip off. Put a badge on it and charge 50k+ for a badge. AMG used to be the most powerful mean looking V8,W12. These days we have GLB AMG 2L in line 4 cylinder! LOL

Not true... I have the Gt53 with air suspension, rear wheel steering and slip differential For me the car is fasr enough...and the 53 engine is much more reliable as the 63...as the 63 has many problems with engine Please stop comparing the amg gt with e class ..this car is another world compared to the Eclass..other dynamic and so on There is no other Mercedes with better dynamics
The 2-door GT has far better dynamics. C’mon now.
Does your active spoiler stay up or go down all the time? and if so how ?
The active spoiler deploys at 50+MPH I believe, deploys to ~2" and above ~85 to 87mph deploys higher with a max of ~5". It can also be manually controlled.@@jay5586
Normally, even with cars that you're not so much a fan of, your objective and thorough in your reviews. The fact that you were predisposed to disappointment in this car is clear from the door. You should have skipped this review, instead of marginalizing a car that speaks more to the direction of power train downsizing in the name of efficiency as gas prices skyrocket. You've done better work, Mr. Hammes.

This is still based on the W213 E-Class. So you're just paying for the looks. So the E53 is the better option. Hate these fake AMG.
The only bad thing about this is the name. It's not an AMG.

Being the owner of a CLS 53 (same power train and chassis) I can't tell you that you can't consider it a sport/fun car. It is refined, comfortable and enough powerful but forget to say "wow" while acelerating with it. Are way too heavy, and being used to my C7, 570s and 488 maybe doesn't help. If you want a comfy ride get the 43/53, if you want a fun one get the 63.
