  • Oh boy, this brings back some memories! I used to run a Big Bud on the Snowy Mountain Ranch, just south of the little Snowy Mountains, north of Lavina. There were two Big Buds working the place and the other guy tried to drive through an alkali stream bed with his 60' tool bar raised up on the wheels. You can imagine how stuck that mess was as everything sunk in that white, sticky mud! Had to disconnect the toolbar and sort of walk/drag it backwards out of the bed, one end at a time, then I'd stretch a 3" tow rope down to about an inch in diameter as my tractor pulled his from the front. When something this big goes deep, there's no other work getting done that day for sure! Thanks for posting this!

I've been a "helper" (by which I mean I basically do everything and he writes me a good size check) for a farmer for a good while and I've had access to his books. And he's a small, low overhead guy. He makes a quarter million a year just with 40 acres of pumpkins after all expenses except my paycheck. The bigger guy next door makes about a hundred times more with a few square miles of cereal crops. These are profits, not grosses.

I'm not saying it's bad i'm saying some folks would be surprised at what they think is a lot of money. Without comparing the hours to pay. As far as the business itself they make money yes, then they have to pay you and all the other bills too...….. As for your 250k Small Farm guy, Good for him, wonder what it looked like when all his equipment wasn't paid for.

  • Not uncommon up in Saskatchewan some springs. The fun sometimes doesn't end at seeding. I've gotten stuck a few times spraying in-crop in places I seeded not too long before. Got the swather planted a couple times and the combine and semi a few times too. Most years aren't bad but you can sure come across those hidden high ground WTF areas on occasion. When the Versatile 976 says you're going 4.5 miles an hour and the Trimble says you're doing 0.5 miles an hour then you know lol.

  • nothing like getting BIG BUD stuck in some gumbo to gum up your day ,,I had my steiger panther stuck worse than that a couple weeks ago ,serious gummy situation ,,I had to call for a ride back to my farm to get my truck and pull it out , it's name is Brutus ,and he is a 6x6 international truck tractor with a 75 ton rear hydraulic winch and a 25 ton PTO winch on the front it's a former oil rig transport built in 1976 it's perfect for this sort of thing , pulled my tractor free from the mud with pure brute force pulling power I had to call my neighbor and have him park his 9800 JD in front of my truck so i had an anchor
