@B O I'm flattered but I'm not South African haha, the closest comparison I have to a hippo is a pig.

@@user-tv1xj5ji6xvirus? That shit was already 2 years ago
The children’s hospital of Cincinnati should have little stuffed hippos named Fiona to give the kids who are nervous about procedures and tell them the story of how brave Fiona was and how the children’s hospital staff helped her get better. I know the kids would probably respond well to that.
That's a brilliant idea

So impressed how everyone did their part to get this little girl on the path to life as a baby hippo. The end with her in the pool with the pool noodles was so precious 😍
You believe this bs lol sheeple
I love it how, the children's care team stepped in to help. They treated and cared for Fiona, exactly how they would do with a human child/baby.
They put the animal in a cage and then took it's baby away and then they make a TV show with it. How heartwarming

Do you mean a amphibious assault cow?
You’re amazing. This just made me smile so much ☺️
They are river cows
Hippopotamus is river horse in Greek. Hippo=horse. Potamus= river. But it's funny to call Fiona aquatic pig
It's a relief to see one of the most dangerous animals in the world in baby form and be comfortable with humans...
Maybe their dangerous because humans don't even see them or know their territory when their already in it, pissing them off, and we don't know how to read their body language or anger quest when their underwater, and whoever is is, is probably on a tiney shitty home made canoe or kayake, which are easy to knock over, BY YOURSELF, hippos are just mis understood like most animals, this video is a great picture into that. We don't know weveerything in the world, and nor doese the Internet, what we know is we don't know anything at all.
Its is related to Pigs, & people have really close relationships w/their Per Pigs so...
David Ekstrom no its true hippos are one of the most territorial and violent animals. Human or not they are really just aggressive animals by nature.
David Ekstrom no need to be defensive - they’re dangerous because that’s how GOD made them - and humans aren’t supposed to be interfering-
David Ekstrom chill the fuck out. Hippos are dangerous no matter what
Omgosh, I'm always amazed how teensie she is & survived. Bless this team....
Coming out of the hospital last week after spending a week there and having no veins, I can tell you the Vascular Access Team are the badasses of the nursing team.

In my head: “what even are hippos, like why are hippos?” Another commenter: “...amphibious assault cow...” My thought is irrelevant. They’re amphibious assault cows. 100% makes sense to me.
😂
i present a new idea for the military tactical amphibious assault cow we add gun attachment to amphibious assault cows like giving them a 8x scope for accurate charging or a bipod for stable biting
Hippo came from the greek word horse Potamus came from the greek word river So basically the traduction is river horse.

I love Fiona so much, such a nice big sister to little Fritz ❤
I am thankful I am watching this years later knowing she not only made it, but is thriving. ❤ U Fiona! Thank you to all vets and caregivers involved!!!
She’s adorable. Her little (big) yawn was just about the cutest thing ever, until i saw her ears fluttering when her helper kissed her. Ong. She is precious. What a wonderful community to come together and save her. Amazing how small some of the largest animals are at birth. (Polar bears, hippos, erc)
Baby hippos are normally much larger than Fiona was. She was basically what in human terms would be called a micro-preemie, ie a baby so small the chances of survival are very slim.
But an update my friends- Fiona now has a baby brother named Fritz- their mama was able to carry him the whole term of hippo confinement- amazing to see how much bigger he was than Fiona at birth- makes one appreciate how much of a micro-preemie she once was. They have been introduced to each other through gates between- but Fiona seems rather interested in the little guy, no sibling jealousy, perhaps that only happens with Human Children 🤔

I had to rewind it twice when Fiona was born because she slid out so fast I didn’t realize that was her at first! All I saw was a blob on the ground and then they were talking about a baby! She’s soooo cute. I was in tears every minute that she was suffering, she’s absolutely adorable! This was such a nice story and what an absolutely amazing group of people at the zoo- definitely a close knit family and genuinely wonderful and kind people. It was so nice to see the doctors from the children’s hospital help Fiona- that was probably the best part. White Rider it is a noble thing to help these zookeepers no doubt, but you’re not helping. You’re just making an ass of yourself.
White Rider Western men are no better and have this tendency to think that women were made to bear children and that without bearing a child, a woman’s life is a wasted one. What a sick, overly patriarchal and rudimentary way of thinking.

Fiona is so alive! I was 2 months early and survived because of dedicated zoo keepers like you! The problems for early people sound the same as the problems of early Hippos.
You were raised by zoo keepers?
@@Sara-xf7ls Ha! Human ones.
God bless every one of you who helped Fiona survive.
That head natal keeper, Dawn, is just amazing to take the role of mom to help the baby breathe. That is just years of experience and gut feeling. I'm sure a book doesn't tell you to lay down and put a baby hippo on your belly to help it breathe. What a remarkable keeper!
SilenceIsStill so many human babies have survived thanks to our knowledge now that a newborn needs to be naked on its parents naked chest to survive and bond. There was a couple who had twins. One twin was dead, the parents held it between their naked chests for absolute ages and astoundingly, the baby's heart started to beat and eventually breathe and survived. Just amazing!
I didn’t know baby Hippos were this adorable, I’m happy to see Fiona is ok 🙂
I know it's 4 years old but that was an amazing convergence of dedicated professionals, (zoo & related to beings once believed to be too small to survive),who saved that beautiful little hippo, Fiona. As has been said, humanity at its finest.
Cincinnati and the rest of the world held our breaths from the moment Bibi gave birth to that prescious little potato. These animals and the zoo crew's are miracles!

She’s so cute! Worth it!!!
ALL I CAN SAY.. YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!! YOU ALL AND THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL SAVED HER LIFE!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!
As someone who wants to be a nurse, I would absolutely think it was the coolest thing if I got called to do an iv on a hippo.
Although I always wanted to be a pathology technician, you still had to learn a huge amount of medicine in general, from A&P, to Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, etc, being I also trained in Basic First Aid, via an intensive, three day course, inserting an emergency IV would be be pretty cool also ... On a hippo, though, problem is not only finding a suitable vein/site, but, especially in her case, due to being possibly dehydrated, is whether her veins are stable, and won't collapse ...
*scuse me miss*
I love how Children's hospital came to help baby hippo.

They're prison guards in a way
@@ginadrag5191 not even close. Where did you do time? These guys and girls aren't like any prison guards I've ever met. If the guards where you did your stretch were like these people, consider yourself very lucky. I admit a lot of zoo's should definitely be shut down, 100%. But Cincinnati isn't one of them. Do you really think these sweet beautiful souls are mistreated or abused?
@@ginadrag5191, these "prison guards" will do infinitely more to take care of this baby hippo than her own mother did, and certainly more than your employer would ever do to take care of you. Life is a prison. Jobs are prisons. And, as far as prisons go, the Cincinnati Zoo is an awfully nice one.
I'm relieved Fiona was saved. She's really thriving now! You are all heroes! Thank you

@@koreyb hum. Well, most of them are spontaneous with something that just went wrong with the fetus/zygote. Those are ones that there is nothing that would have prevented it except maybe higher quality and quantity of food as when the child or adult is living in poverty. Also, there are reasons why they (medically induced abortions) are necessary. Look up ectopic pregnancies. Do your research before advertising how terribly intentionally ignorant you are.
@@koreyb Why? There are no babies until they essentially born. 93% of abortions are at or before 13 weeks, 6% at between 13 and 20 weeks, 1%, after 20 weeks. Later abortions are only because of medical necessity. Generally, 22 weeks a prematurely born baby can survive, 24 weeks a prematurely born baby will likely live. It's a hidden ad for Cincinnati Children's Hospital, if you weren't able to figure it out.
Steven and Kristy It's not a hidden ad for the children's hospital. It's giving them credit for doing what they did. It also makes Fiona's story more interesting and Fiona's story or history more complete. This is far from the first time that a regular hospital or a children's hospital has done something outstanding for the a local zoo. It's just that you hear about it more these days because of the internet. The only ad type tactic that is in there is to promote Cincinnati so they can attack people to visit or live there which would increase the amount of visitors of the zoo so they will have more money. Not every single thing you encounter is a "hidden" agenda or someone trying to get in your head.
Damn these people are awesome & caring. That cute little chubby little hippo would not have made it out in the wild! Glad they helped her out so much.

I am a retired Neo-natal intensive care nurse from the early 1970's. It was the "birth of the NNICU" era, and was the first in the large city I was working in. This video reminds me of those days. I can relive so many of these moments with the zoo staff here. The baby hippo presents with so many other challenges than a human, but some things seemed a little bit easier. I am so happy for this positive outcome because if that hippo had been born in the wild, it would not have survived guaranteed. One thing the staff has that was shared by the staff I worked with, we would NEVER give up. We understood might fail, but never gave up trying. Most of the time we succeeded.
Thanks for sharing a beautiful part of your life!

Thx for sharing. I was an ICU nurse for big people
Amen💯Nurses make it happen. I was born @ 28 weeks (83) and I’m still grateful for those nurses. Then I needed rehab to walk (didn’t walk til 3 and never crawled) and THOSE REHAB CREWS are angels too💯It took moving MOUNTAINS to get me on 2 feet, but here I am today. They didn’t have to do that and I didn’t have to have parents who cared about rehab. I came across a boy with Hydrocephalus who’s UNREHABBED, so he’s stuck in a WHEELCHAIR so his stupid ass mom can get that check.
