  • I personally prefer driving the 2016 model, something about feels more naturally sporty. It is one of the few cars that you can hop into and not have to adjust to it's driving dynamics, it responds to steering input exactly the way you'd expect.

    • This is an old comment but in case anyone stubles apon this. I've been working at enterprise rent a car for years and seen the models the last 5 years being in 2021 now. I personally own a 2015 cx5 and prefer it to the newer ones. The way the seats feel, the way it drives, the simpler screen set up. Omg don't get me started on mazdas new display design and that dumb knob system. But the newer mazdas try to be too new and cool and miss out on what people enjoyed about them.

    • I agree with you completely. I used to be a lot attend and drove a lot of cars up to about 2022 while I was in school and the 2016 I own does feel faster and sportier than the other years I have driven. I noticed the 16 model year is rated to get its hp @5700rpm and torque @3250 which are very low and impressive numbers for n/a regular 87 gas especially. Whereas the following years are @6000 and @4000 respectively. Might be part of the reason but just a guess. How many miles do you have? I always am curious to hear other owners! I’m at 107k currently

    • well, that's usually normal with most engines, they are not at their best with low miles, there's the run-in period, but specially with skyactiv I believe the way they designed these engines, with the lower friction and lighter components, they might wear at a slower pace than the non skyactiv ones, if the theory is right, a well maintained skyactiv engine should last very long. Most modern cars, the engine is one of the most if not the most durable part, they should easily outlast their transmissions, I do wonder how many miles the earlier (2012?) skyactiv engines have now.

  • I have the 2018 and I'm not surprised. The older one is smaller, lighter, and more aerodynamic and not to mention the AWD version of these cars are heavier than the Front Wheel Drive version. The CX-5 should be a minimum of 200 hp and hopefully Mazda will go that direction and add Turbo.

    @MatthewMoscotto@MatthewMoscotto6 жыл бұрын
    • but with the 184/187 hp they have, the difference in 150lbs makes up for about 10 of that, and difference in driver weight could make up the equivalent of another few hp. the weight difference here is probably equivalent to a 200hp car vs the 184/187. amazing how some morbidly obese people will pay hundreds or even thousands in fake mods that supposedly will gain a few hp on a dyno when they could just exercise and eat right and get the equivalent of the same gains while probably extending their life expectancy and saving money on mods and healthcare.

  • I have a brand new 2019 CX-5, got it with only 3 miles on the odometer. The car has no power until about 500 miles on the odometer, and today I have 1680 miles slightly broken in and the car feels way more powerful. I believe the ECU limits power output until around 600 miles (1000KM), as the manual suggest to drive it gently until then. Your test is not valid. You need to test a broken in 2018 vs the broken in 2016. I can tell my 2019 CX-5 is way more powerful now than when it has less than 500 miles.

  • Well duh...actual car magazines have said this is the case ever since the new CX-5s were released...the new one is a bit slower than the old one. Not sure why this is surprising at all.

  • It is not a reliable test. You have to test the real power before. Not all vehicles comes out with the exact specs as stated. In this case maybe the new one was 175hp and the old 190hp...
