Come take a tour of our 1997 Mitsubishi Delica that we converted into our solar powered travel home! We are excited to finally share our van tour with the #Vanlife community and others that are interested in this way of life. Vanlife is a great way to travel and we recommend it to anyone who likes to experience things off the beaten path.
In this video we will show you all the moving parts of our home on wheels. We explain how everything works, why we chose the materials we did and how it helps us in our everyday vanlife travels.
Follow us on Instagram: / whatanadvanture
Our WhatAnAdVANture journey started in Vancouver Canada, where we bought our van from Rising Sun Auto Imports. After months of planning, we headed to Camrose, Alberta in November 2017 to do the conversion in Dan’s parents garage. On December 16th, 2017 we left Vancouver and started our journey! After 4 months on the road and 17,000km’s later, we couldn’t be happier with our van named Stan. Our van hasn’t had any major issues and has no trouble going off road which lets us explore some pretty remote areas and beautiful untouched scenery.
Let us know if you have any questions about the van or our trip. We would be happy to share our experience with you.
Driving a right-hand drive vehicle? El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica do not allow RHD vehicles into the country. Leave us a comment and find out how we got in!
Thanks so much for watching and happy travels :)

  • Thank you so much for sharing your van life with everyone! Really enjoyed your video and your van is really great! Paco is so cute too! I just went to see a Delica today and dreaming of #VanLife and buzzing with ideas! Two quick questions: #1. How did you secure the rustic wood cedar "fencing" to the ceiling? #2 And what solar panel kit did you use? Thanks so much!

  • A great project, thanks for sharing! Love it! Putting kitchen / shower section to the back is an interesting idea (not for winter Canada vanlife trips though ha-ha))). Does the insulation work for Delica? Especially under the hot sun, when there's no option to park under a tree. I mean it has a lot of windows and it seems that (no matter how much insulation you put in) Delica (as any other J bus) will become hot quickly.

    • That's awesome, there are a few different ways of converting a Delica. Biggest questions for us were: 1. How big do we need the bed? and 2. Do we want the kitchen inside the van or just accessible from the back? Good luck with the conversion, let us know if you have any questions. We would love to see your progress :)

    @nolanorth11@nolanorth115 жыл бұрын
    • Hey! Thanks so much :) It's a short body. We did look at some long body ones which definitely give more space but we thought the short body would be better for going off-roading and precarious places. Thanks for watching, really appreciate it!!

  • awesome guys, well done! curious approx what was the cost of your conversion? (USD) and what's that metallic foil looking stuff you put around the van at the start, what's its purpose? Looking at doing this myself, so very keen to find out more details!

    @nickearl3845@nickearl38455 жыл бұрын
    • Hey Nick, the total Van cost about $10k USD. We converted the van in a very short time frame, if we were able to take the time and source better deals we could have probably done it for less. The foil stuff we used was just metallic insulation. We basically covered the interior of the entire van before we started the actual conversion.

    @teosimon2363@teosimon23634 жыл бұрын
    • Hey Teo! We have a mechanic who only specializes in Delica's - we haven't had to do a lot to it since we bought it in 2017 but we have had it in for regular check-ups quite often to make sure everything is okay. There was obviously wear and tear due to our long haul from Vancouver to Panama but nothing major, it's well worth it in our opinion. :)

      @ellemakis7914@ellemakis79144 жыл бұрын
    • Elle Makis well that’s reassuring because I want a VW van, but that air cooled engine is always breaking down. I need reliability so the Delica is looking better and better.

    @stig120212@stig1202124 жыл бұрын
    • Water system, we literally just used a big (10 gallon maybe? ) water jug. We used this for drinking water, doing the dishes etc. Potty breaks... if we were in a city or town we would go to gas stations and cafes, sometimes if were staying in a camp site they would have showers / toilets but if we were in the middle of no where - oh natural! :)
