Army Ants and Biodiversity - UN mission in Thailand's untamed jungle! (overwhelming ant-experience)

One of the few non "vivariumistic" uploads, but don't worry as we will soon see a vivarium update approximately next week! This video is about ants and their importance in the Thai jungle, especially the ants of the genus Carebara(asian army ants)!
I have been given the privilege to come aboard a UNDP supervised mission into Western forest complex wildlife sanctuary. Authorizing me to delve into jungle that very few people get to see. Given that no tourists or other civilians are allowed to enter this intact forest it was gorged with wildlife. Given that I am such an entomology nerd I just couldn’t resist filming some of it for you. Come along as I not only showcase the evolutionary masterpieces such as ants, beetles and much more but also what a UNDP field mission could look like!
This video concerns the cutting-edge strategy of BIO-FINANCE applied in a wildlife sanctuary of west-Thailand whereby a group of experts examine and questions the park and its facilities to make them more self sustainable and efficient so that they can generate money coherently as the protection and biodiversity of the park increases.
Stay tuned for the next weeks vivarium update and have a fANTastic day,
Nordic Ants :D

  • In my opinion, the species you took for army ants belongs to the Pheidologeton genus. These ants are known for conducting massive and impressive hunting raids, but are not nomadic. Thus, they can not be consider as army ants (when the species belonging to the Dorylus genus are).

    • Cyrille Fougere i know! They are now classed as carebara, but they are known as asian army ants :D army ant for me applies for ”shreddage” of the forest floor! But yeah..

  • "Do you think the UN is necessary?" No, what is the point of the UN if countries don't have to listen to it...The UN can vote on whatever it likes but until countries have to follow that vote it's a waste of time.

    • Ohhh a countering comment!

      @nordicants6232@nordicants62325 жыл бұрын
    • All elected members are elected by the countries though? And there is alot of diplomacy but that is must in order to make every countries word heard which once again is a must if we have to make global decisions on a bigger scale and go forward on a global scale. No country is stopped from going forward even further, but the un is like a big pushing net that drags all countries towards equal goals slowly but surely. Dont you think its nessesary that all countries rally for plastic waste and CC?

      @nordicants6232@nordicants62325 жыл бұрын
    • But the UN have not teeth, they can vote for something year in year out for 20 years but still doesn't get done. Take Cuba for example for around 20 years the UN have been voting to end the US embargo against Cuba and every year the US ignore it. Last year the vote was 191-2 so 191 countries voted to end it while Israel (shocker) and the US voted to keep it and has anything changed? Yes, the US are treating Cuba even worse now! My point is what is the point of having an elected body that can't do anything? They can tell someone to do something until they are blue in the face but they don't have to listen. I agree about plastics and CC, I want to see something done about that, I really do but I don't think the UN can do anything.
